Just got back from Sunderland, having stayed up their for a few days, and went to the derby on Sunday...what a brilliant atmosphere. I've been to the Sunderland v Newcastle derby last season, but it was so much better this season...managed to take some vids on my phone before kick off and at the end; shear brilliance along with the result!
As a side note; a lot of them LIKED Di Canio and the way he was running things, but as it's come out the players took exception (Cattermole & Bardsley as the main mouth pieces who went to the chairman which led to him getting the sack). They all felt he was a short term appointment and the 'loada rubbish' that was brought in during the Summer was done by their director of football (di fanti?). The only player he wanted was Tom Huddlestone, who ended up going to Hull.

As for music...there's still good stuff being created, a lot of people though just get stuck in a bubble of only liking waht they grew up with...
Still fresh Reg? Sorry

The two games that spring to mind for great noise levels over the last few years at home, were Leeds (during the 3-0 home and away season) and Charlton in the play off semi. "You're only here to see the town" was sung from all three stands and the Leeds fans just stood in silence, amazed at being outsung . The roar of the crowd when Danny Ward scored in the home leg against Charlton was great, caught from a youtube clip taken by a Charlton fan on the bank, unfortunately it seems to no longer be on the web . So, it can happen, but it's whether people can be bothered.

The issue is simple, the fans that sing are too far away from the away fans. In all the years gone by there was always banter with away fans as you could see and hear them. When the the town end reopened and the top corner if the south stand stop being where the singing fans were it was fine at first as the town end was rammed. It was like terracing at times, especially Sheff wed at home on a hot summers day. As numbers in the town end have reduced so has the atmosphere.
If all the noisy fans were to sit in the arkells by the away fans you would get the banter back and even 200 away fans and 200 home fans singing could generate a far better atmosphere. A few games this did happen until the Bristol Rovers seat throwing game and then it all stopped. But that day the atmosphere was electric and the banter was and far better than had everyone been in the town end.
Other than the massive games the atmosphere will continue to be rubbish if the away fans sit so far away you can't hear each other. That's a fact. It will never happen and some fans won't want to hear it, but if you want a good atmosphere shutting the town end and the singers sitting by the away fans would make things 100 times better. Just think of some of the small away grounds you have been too where you sit near the noisy section of the home fans and how much better the banter makes the overall atmosphere.

It should be looked at in isolation.

Seemed to work OK acoustically in the 80's and even the early 90's Mr Reaper
Too true. We seem to be hearing alot of excuses here The TE was great for atmosphere in the late 70s. Arsenal at home in 79 was brilliant, even when Arsenal steamed into the TE at the end of yhe match
