Wrong. They're ace and when used properly get traffic off heavily congested roundabouts. Unfortunately a lot of people are stupid, ignorant, or both and see it as cheating.

thats because idiots see them as a chance to put their foot down scream up the outside of somebody driving normally and then cut infront.those lanes are more trouble than good imo

I can see how they get abused. It just annoys me in slow moving traffic when fuckers don't let me in when i've given 10 seconds of indication and we're all crawling along. It's not nice being forced head on into oncoming traffic.

Why should they let you in?
Pisses me off when I patiently sit in a line of traffic when Mr BMW wanka shoots up the outside passing 20+ cars and then thinks he has a god damn right to be let in just because he indicates. I never let them in and sit 1 inch behind the car in front!
