Which also made me think, which other players would join him as ones you love to hate?

There's Joey Beauchamp after he went back to Oxford, but that's a unique case.

John McGinlay comes to mind, from the matches against Bolton.

I remember us giving John Aldridge a fair bit of stick in a game against Tranmere; he scored a late equaliser and gave us a wave as he did so. I remember thinking "We had that one coming..."

In a similar vein... we were playing Norwich in the... I guess early 90's...and Robert Fleck was getting the standard 'you fat bastard' abuse from the Town fans and he suddenly turned towards them, lifted his shirt and patted his belly. They absolutely loved him from then on (or the rest of the game at least)

Ironically, I'm pretty sure Fleck was not in the slightest bit fat in real terms and 99% of the Town fans giving it out were waaaaaaaaay fatter than him....

Not to get too boomer who reads Daily Mail but there is far too many snowflakes these days for a lot of it. Call someone a cunt for being a cunt and they'll be playing the racism angle or something to turn it in to something it never was.

Micky Quinn, obviously, and, for no obviously apparent reason other than he played for and captained Oxford, Mike Ford. That man just wound  me up.

David Prutton, but only once he rocked up with us.

There are too many to mention, but these stand out for me....Julian Dicks, Steve Walsh, Trevor Morley, David Speedie, Steve Bull, Tony Cascarino and Animal Brian Williams (but for one game only  :D)

Your point is valid and when I’ve gone over the last two season - it’s almost like the ground - atmosphere misses that hatred / vitriol.

It used to be universal fan uniting thing. Us and them, us against the world. No matter what you or the fans around you thought of this Town player or that Town player you all joined in with the anti Oxford chants.

All we’ve done the last two season (in my admittedly limit experience) is make inaudible noises ended with STFC from the West County.

I also really missed the fuck off chant.

As players Dennis Wise & Joey Barton both horrible little bastards.

Yeah I really don’t like the Allez Allez Allez oh chant. Not quite sure why but never been a fan.

Yeah for someone who lived in Covingham he was strangely quite happy to go out of his way to piss off Swindon fans.

Lee Hughes was another.  Deservedly picked on but often talented enough to have the last laugh.  Which he'd do openly.

I think it's more just because about nearly every club sings ''their'' version of it. Lacks originality.

I don't mind the long chant of:

Obviously it lacks any real creativity but then usually the simplest chants are the best and I haven't heard many other clubs do the spelling chant like that - although I'm sure Town aren't unique with that one

Oh don't get me wrong, I hate the ''Allez Allez Allez Ohhh'' chant. Heard at nearly every fucking televised FA Cup match.

I think the trouble is, if someone comes up with something original, it either gets knocked back because people don't like change or something different...or it is a bit shit. Unfortunately, even if it were good - it would still end up getting drowned out by the ''Wanky, Wanky, Wanky Woooooooooo'' aka ''Allez, Allez, Allez Ohhh'' chant.

JJ Moons 2010 was like a Greatest Hits compilation in there. Hours of classics being brought back.

The Globe at Baker Street in 2015 before Preston a similar thing was tried but most of the people just had confused looks on their faces.

Solution: bring back the classics.

I know it's just a job to them, but defections like that sting. Especially if they're in the division below (which they were) and they still somehow poach one of our better players.

Yes, in with the Luton fans and my friends told me not to celebrate if Swindon scored. We so dominated that second half, all the Luton fans round me were saying Swindon were going to score soon.

All I remember about that, apart from the utter mayhem when we equalised, was Dave Bamber being through on goal, one on one, thinking he was offside (as did everyone else) and just side footing it at the afore mentioned Les Sealey...only for the lino's flag to stay down and play to continue... :doh:

That, and just how packed the away end was. It was almost impossible to move in there

Yep, and to be fair Sealey did much the same, just stuck a foot out to save the shot without making much effort to save it so he heard the whistle too

Luton had banned away fans but had to let cup fans in if i remember rightly.

Like fucking sardines and the facilities were shit, Old Bill were pricks and we lost to a whistle in the crowd....epic night!
