I'm obviously over simplifying the issue, regards Crimea, but:

Norther Ireland: The majority want to be part of the UK, so they are part of the UK.

Falkands: the islanders wish to be classed as British, so they are.

Crimea: The majority want to be part of Russia....

You can question the way they approached it, but not the outcome, as it was the people who ultimately decided.

The concern will come if he has his beady eyes set on Ukraine...

Apparently, Crimea was given to Ukraine as a present by Stalin never thinking at the time the break up of the USSR was ever a possibility.

Those eastern borders have changed so much over the years it's hard to tell what is what and who is who - from the West's perspective.

Ukraine could be just the start of it if this is true:

According to a former adviser, he also fancies the look of Georgia, the Baltic states and Finland among others.

A 97% yes vote either means there's no reason for the Crimea to belong to Ukraine or there was some fixing going on. I'd be inclined to think the latter. Especially with the large numbers of Russian Naval personnel and 'mysterious' armed men present in the region.

Ukraine and Finland. He wants to create a thousand year reich resurgent Russian Empire and will, literally, stop at nothing. That's what worries me. He's a man in the mold of a Machiavellian prince, with a mindset borrowed from Frederick the Great of Sweden via the Soviet Union and Peter the Great, and the KGB, with the patience and the unwillingness to give up power of Stalin, and that is simply not viable in the modern world.

The only shining light I can see is that the strongest American president in years is currently in the White House in his second term.

It was simpler than that, the anti-Russian/pro-Ukrainan factions largely boycotted the poll. Although I don't think anyone disputes it would have come down heavily on the pro-Russian side anyway, so the boycott was as much a face-saving thing as anything. Equally I don't think anyone disputes the Russians would have rigged it if they'd felt they needed to

Apparently the good people of the Donetsk area voted in an on-line poll to become part of the UK, based on the fact that the mining enclave was started up by I think John Hughes a Welshman.

Swapping the Sweaties for an Ukrainian enclave, does seem tempting.

Clearly in cahoots with Comrade Smeeton, the Daily Facist and The Torygrapgh. Interesting the angle you adopt and the style. It's not how i interpreted the article even though you have not so cleverly skewed the the meat of the piece to suit your own agenda. I suggest anyone witha passing interest in the alarmist view of Abrahamer read the article for themselves.

It's one thing to admire Putin, agreeing with him is something else.......

Overanalysed my comment there considerably, Farage is a bit of loon but that's as far as my agenda goes.

Don't think Putin is overly bothered about the rest of the Ukraine, what Russia have always coveted is a warm water port, which is where the Crimea come in.

It's the same reason that NATO were getting all cosy with the Ukraine, to deny Russia access to it.
Once that option is gone the west will soon turn their backs on the Ukraine, unless of course they have a lot of oil we could use ;)

I have no bias to the west or east...other than to say.

Thatcher with her American film star mate Regan basically bankrupted the USSR and caused total disruption by forcing the price down for Saudi oil.

Then came Gorbachev who should have stayed working on a farm...

Putin came in at the turn of the century and steadied a very difficult situation and I suggest has done a good job in bringing pride back to a previously proud nation.

Since then the Amercians via NATO and the EEC have been try to get more and more control of the world.
