Cooper targets play-off berth

SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper feels a Robins play-off challenge is a possibility if his players show the “passion and fight” which helped them to a 4-0 win at Rotherham every week for the rest of the season.

Get into 6th gear by Christmas and a few loans if we can/is possible and we'll get a crack at top two.

It's an old football cliche...you're as good as your last result...so atm we're very good, which should be enjoyed, but we're STFC, so who knows what's round the corner?

Really? So if, for example, we look back to your comments after the Crewe game we won't find you banging on about the poor away form at all?

Does every one of your posts about the club / team have to have the tone of one of Kevin Mcloud's pieces to camera just before each commercial break on Grand Designs Reg?

As is often the case, I haven't a clue what you're on about...my comments on the Crewe thread, seemed to be about TAH's helping Carlisle to keep a clean sheet.

Who's Kevin Mc loud? Some gobby Sweatie?

Oh FFS. Are we playing the "I don't understand any references to popular culture" line today? My point is that you seem determined to see dark clouds on every horizon. If we're as good as our last result then we're really fucking good; could you find it in you to be a bit less of an Eyore and be pleased about it?

We've just won 4-0 away, won 3 games  in a row, kept 2 clean sheets out of the last 3 games, scoring 7 and conceding only 1, and we're on the brink of a play off spot. Add to that that we're doing it with a young skillful squad with goals being shared throughout the team, we've really good players about to come back to fitness, and we're doing it with a balanced budget with some sense of stabillity for the first time in ages and most people would find themselves quite pleased.

But you for some reason have to suggest that there some disaster just around the corner, not based on anything other than your fucking miserable outlook on life.

Try and read what I post instead of making suppositions that merely confirm your prejudices,a bit of intellectual rigour never goes amiss...and for what it's worth I still haven't a clue who Kevin Mc loud is.

OK you never watch TV. The name of the show and it's presenter are in my first post, you're sat in front of a computer with an internet connection. I think I can see a way for you to fill the gap in your knowledge of the world.

Reg doesn't have time for TV.

Too busy down the pub charming the eastern European ladies.

Many years ago, I was put off populist TV and radio, and therefore have extensive gaps in that area. Thing to do as regards a quiz team, is to get in some fella (it does tend to be fellas, from experience eastern European ladies and quizzes tending not to mix), who is long term unemployed, and so watches soaps, celebrity/reality shit and has a working knowledge the more obscure comic book heroes.

In my opinion too much importance is given to the impact of perceived popular culture....been watching that BBC doc on the 70's by Dominic Seabrook...he seemed to think Bernard Manning and the Wheeltappers and Shunters Club, summed up the prevailing zeitgeist...not how I remember it at all.

The reference to the Wheeltappers was to show the prevailing sexist, anti-feminist behaviour at that time.

Hence, also, the reference to the Equal Pay Act and women going on strike when certain firms refused to implement the Act.

Bloody good programme. Especially liked the footage of marauding Man Utd fans at virtually every away game they had.

They really were the nasty bastards of the day. No prawn sandwiches then, eh Reg?

Definitely a good prog, even though I don't agree with a lot of it...historical revision is never a bad thing.

Man U, did have a bad rep back then, but remember being at Fratton Park for their visit in 74, and it was peaceful.

Didn't Tranmere themselves keep going until December last year?

Not saying orient won't go up, but they aren't *that* good.

Sticks in my throat a little to offer praise for something written in that filthy rag...but that's one of the best pieces of lower league analysis I've seen in a national title for some time.

One of the better articles about lower league football. I would of been even impressed if there had been some effort and recognition afforded to how well we have played and our flowing style and superb perfromance against Chelsea.

Agree with both parts of that completely. Great article.

Re Orient, I see them totally doing a Tranmere, although they've admittedly had an even better start. Southend did the same the year we won L2, always seems to be one team who look good early on then fall away. And of course Oxford, who do that every season.

I don't think Orient will do a total Tranmere as I think they'll still make the top 6. Good manager at this level and they've got some decent players as well. I think unfortunately for them, there's two very good teams in Peterborough and Wolves who will overtake them fairly soon.

I think the Shitheads may shoot up the table at some point. Can't help but feel that with the squad and manager they have, as soon as they win one the floodgates may open. I hope it doesn't of course as I've thoroughly enjoyed their struggle. Coventry also are making some decent noises despite everything that's gone against them. Their strikeforce is easily the best in the division.

Biggest surprise for me still is Sheffield United. I think they might continue to struggle this year.

Not sure if Orient have much depth to their squad. Once suspensions and injuries occur they may well suffer.

Wasn't it about this time last year that Bornmuff started their charge up the table after we had thumped them 4-0?

Seeing as we've had more than our fair share of injuries already and the replacements showing they are more than capable of stepping in, I reckon we should have more than a chance of being up amongst the front-runners

Orient won't implode as Tranmere did. They only just missed out on the Play offs last year

As of now, the biggest surprise for me in terms of league position has to be Brentford: currently in 11th place with a points tally of 15 (from 11 games) and a goal difference of -2.  The received wisdom just a couple of months ago was that the division was theirs & theirs alone this season.  Early days, but it hasn't really worked out that way so far.

That's if O'Driscoll gets the chance to be around when they win one. Slave Traders at my office reckon he's well past his sell-by date. And I'm having tremendous fun with it, too! Positively looking forward to getting into work on Monday mornings :)

Especailly like :

Swindon are not pulling up trees in League One, they're not running away with the title, they're not even in the top six. But what they are is a club with new life breathed into it. A club symbolised by youth and second chances.

Post-Di Canio Swindon have got their identity back.

As we know from bitter experience, it can be difficult to recover from a PO trauma....Brentford had the double whammy of the last minute penalty as well.

I think Brentfords problem was that Rosler had built momentum, and after a strong finish in his first year that took them into last season. They were pretty unlucky to not go up. Since then it looks like he's attempting to rebuild. They've brought in a lot of players since then and from what I've heard they've changed their style a bit. I think they relied on being quite organised and pressing the other team hard (not to mention Donaldsons theatrics) but this season it's not quite clicking.

I still think they'll be a good shout for the top 6 but they've definitely flattered to deceive. Which is very pleasing as far as I'm concerned.
