I reckon Cooper will play fringe players in this one. Promotion is the goal this season and we don't want to risk our expensive quality players against a run down Chelsea squad of hasbeen premier league journey men.

Amen brother.  But I don't know whether the League Cup has a similar % criteria for away support as the FA Cup.  Anyone know?

Just been checking after I said it, unfortunately so.

22.2 In all Cup Competition matches, the Visiting Club shall have the right to claim 15 per cent of all tickets reserved or otherwise sold in advance.

Fill the bank with Town fans. Charge Chelsea £60 for the cheapest tickets, call the minging old burgers Aberdeen Angus and charge them £13 with a bottle of coke thrown in. Any Stfc fan that's been to a game in the last 99 years can get in for £9.99. I expect the "anyone got a spare Chelsea ticket" thread soon.

I reckon most who went to QPR were season ticket holders. So even after season ticket and QPR stub holders only about 5500 will be taken up.

Be interesting to see if stubs from this weekend come into play.

They'd be mad not to include this weekend's stubs and announce it tomorrow to throw numbers on the gate.

It's going to cost me about £70 to go to this, unless I can find somebody to share fuel cost with. And that's if I even manage to get a ticket. One of the downsides of being an exile.

Title: Re: Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw ...
Post by: fatbasher on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 21:59:44
A sobering thought about this one. Assume a full house of 15K @ £20 average to allow for consessions. The actual gate money will pay two of Chelsea's top earners for ONE WEEK!

So in the space of half a year, by some strange sequence of accidents, Mark Cooper has gone from struggling manager of AFC Telford, with his managerial career seemingly on the wane, to facing Jose Mourinho in the dugout in the 3rd round of the League Cup as full-time manager of Swindon.

Even he must wonder how he's got from there to here in such a short space of time. It's a funny old game, football.

Title: Re: Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw ...
Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 22:11:01
Realistically looking at £250k-£300k in gate receipts, some of which will go to Chelsea. Then there's increased merchandise sales, potentially larger crowds in the run up (if stubs are required for tickets) and the chance of some TV/radio coverage money too.

Win win.

So, I've put together a team of Chelsea's reserves that they might play-

Two of my sales team colleagues support Chelsea so I wonder how long it will take this morning? One lives in Crawley the other Basingstoke. I have had one missed call @ 8.03 from a sales colleague who got promoted to another division 18 months ago but he's a Pompey ST holder. Still they'll all get an out of office email till Monday or a voicemail saying the same.  :D

What will nark me most is the plastic Carling swilling SKY Sports watching replica shirt wearing "I've supported them all my life and go regularly brigade" who'll somehow manage to infiltrate all the three stands. I suspect there will those who will sell their tickets after they have aquired them whether they are ST holders or not.

Aah come on. Being smug about being "real fans" is the most fun most of us get. God knows we get little enough chance to be smug about the actual team! Except for Tuesday of course, and this morning. Couldn't wait to tell the kids this morning - they're still buzzing from Tuesday and they were well chuffed about getting Chelsea at home (even if their first guesses about "exciting news" did range from "going on a camping trip" to "getting a PS4").

Chelsea reserves vs Spurs Youth, I reckon we can give them a decent run. Come on!

I think to be fair Ardiles, most people just seem to be concerned about a. getting a ticket for themselves and then b. making sure the remainder go to genuine Town fans as opposed to armchair Chelsea who only want a ticket because they happen to be playing in their town. Well I like to hope so anyway.

Got to love how things get whipped up into a frenzy of 'what ifs?' and 'it should bes' every time we have a big or important game. The draw was only announced last night, have a bit of patience and stop trying to guess how the tickets will be allocated. There'll be an announcement on the club site soon enough I'm sure!

It was early Jan 1994.  Hoddle's first game back after leaving us just 7 months before.  They murdered us and cries of 'Judas' rang around the ground.  And as Reg points out, this was in the days before they attracted all their hangers on.  The were a bog standard top flight side with poor crowds.

Haha I know and I'd be the same without a ST as london_red's pointed out. I do sympathise with regular fans who won't end up being able to go but unfortuantely someone will have to lose out.

If the club are sensible and keep it to 1 per st holder then the number who miss out will be minimal really.

What's the chance Jed et all will up the ticket prices for this one?

They'll have 2 games televised - obviously Manc v Scouse will be one and STFC v Chesea the other

Could be on a Wednesday

The home game with Chelsea was my only game that season. We lost 3-1 I think.

Yep...the 11,000 wasn't even their lowest crowd, they had 10,000 v Man City, when on a terrible run through autumn of 9 defeats 2 draws in 11....just before the start of the run, they had 31,000 v Scousers.

Depends what you mean by "up the prices". I doubt they'll be as cheap as the Torquay game, wouldn't be surprised to see usual league prices though

Totally agree. Season Ticket holders are 1 person not 2, Season Ticket holders are no more special than the walk up fan or an exile. ST holders already get their seat reserved so they are guaranteed to go and got their season ticket at a lower price so... Plus may attract more fans who may want to come back again who don't regularly go.

The club should maybe have a "bring a plastic" promotion to smaller games like Tranmere for example. "The Plastic" gets in for a tenner to increase fan base.

Season ticket holders obviously have the priority for tickets. But If they really wanted to drum up some extra revenue from those fans who don’t come often/won’t come again they should then give priority for Chelsea tickets to fans who also buy a ticket for the Bristol City or Tranmere game at the same time.
That way the fans who want to go every week but don’t have a season ticket get a Chelsea ticket and the club gets money from fans who want a Chelsea ticket but wouldn’t go to another game, but now they have to if they want a Chelsea ticket.

I understand tickets will be allocated to those who have interacted with Jed on Twitter and not slagged him off on social media, after that its a free for all.

A mate has told me that Fox Sports is on at a lot of the hotels and show a lot of football, but I think there is two hopes of them showing either game.

At an extreme push I am going to try and watch the game over facetime, live from my parents television set.

All televised Sky Sports games are on the Fox Soccer channel in America, so if you can get a bar with that in Mexico you're fine.

Well I like to hope so anyway.

It feels like a long, long time since we had a 'super power' at the County Ground for a competitive game. Was it really the Blackburn Rovers tie in '95 when the were reigning Premier League champions? That's all I can think of.

I remeber that game really well, White and Bamber were unplayable that night and Calderwood marked England striker Kerry Dixon out of the game.

Would have expected away game to be worth more than home, not that it really matters I suppose

Yea I assumed that was the way are looking at it.

I did think that they might attribute a higher value to away games as one could say (not saying me) that making the effort to go to an away game shows more loyalty than an home game. Then again effort doesn't equal loyalty, I'm rambling now, I'll shut up.
