IN TAKING a pay cut to extend his contract at Swindon Town, Darren Ward has shown a rare quality in modern football. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/10626705.Why_Ward_chose_a_pay_cut_to_stay_at_Town/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: china red on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 07:46:39 Or maybe Ward has just headed the ball a few too many times :)
Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Charlie Henry on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 08:22:48 If taking a pay cut is such an admirable quality, how do we all feel about living it Switzerland to dodge paying taxes? Most of us earn next to nothing and we all have to pay our dues. I think Power should be answerable to us all or are we just mugs being taken for a ride? Don't get me wrong we've had some horrible people in charge of our club in the past but the stench of fiddlers coming from this board is becoming intollerable...

Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Flashheart on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 08:27:18 I haven't paid any tax for years.
Ha. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: london_red on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 08:28:27 the stench of fiddlers coming from this board is becoming intollerable... We still think they are crooks in it for their own gain at the club's expense? Have we seen a shred of evidence to support the fact they are anything worse than inexperienced, buffoonish and mildly incompetent? Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 08:38:39 If taking a pay cut is such an admirable quality, how do we all feel about living it Switzerland to dodge paying taxes? So the board are handy with the violin? Might be useful for future concerts! Makes perfect sense when talking about Wardy's new contract ?!?! Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 08:48:16 Move to Switzerland if it bothers you that much. My boss is moving to Switzerland. I think tax is about 10-12%, but the cost of living is very high so it evens itself out a little bit. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:05:13 Fair play to Ward, I like the idea of identifying talent and developing it for a management role...hopefully it won't come too soon, so will give him time to extend his playing career and mean Cooper is getting a few result satisfactory results.
Oh and fair play to McCrory and Power for doing it. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Red Jed on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:32:21 Still our best signing of the Summer.
Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:38:10 Who wants to pay taxes? I legally avoid it as much as possible. I like paying taxes, as long as the money collected is put to use for the greater good...there lies the problem achieving a consensus on what is the greater good, which isn't the same for all. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: DRS on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:39:46 Fair play to Ward, I like the idea of identifying talent and developing it for a management role...hopefully it won't come too soon, so will give him time to extend his playing career and mean Cooper is getting a few result satisfactory results. Agree Reg,was very important to keep him and in a way shows that we are not going to just let every fucker leave. Keeping Wes and Ward were as important as keeping any of the others in my opinion.Oh and fair play to McCrory and Power for doing it. Whatever the ins and outs its important now that we get rid of Caddis and Benson,it's clear we need them gone to bring in who we want so i just hope we can sort out a package and let them go as we need two or three more to let us have a comfortable season in my opinion Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Batch on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:42:11 Can't disagree with any of that DRS. We are where we are regarding Caddis and Benno. Got to move on for the greater good.

Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:46:35 Let Caddis go on a free. Mutual contract termination would benefit everyone. Yes we would lose a fee but if there is no interest lets get him off the wage book.
The same for benson. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: DRS on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:50:37 Benson to Luton looks to have legs, but will probably only be worth half a player to us...I still wouldn't be surprised to see Caddis leave for free to Brum...rather than us getting the hoped for fee. Benson will want a decent sum though no doubtTitle: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Amir on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:51:21 Let Caddis go on a free. Mutual contract termination has to be....erm....mutual. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Red Jed on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:51:28 Let Caddis go on a free. Mutual contract termination would benefit everyone. Yes we would lose a fee but if there is no interest lets get him off the wage book. Yes he would be off the wage bill but paying him off you will have to pay the rest of his contract up, so thats about £250k and that still comes out of the playing budget for this season so you gain nothing at all, and Caddis has already said he won't play for us again apparently, and he has turned down a smaller contract with Blackpool, what would anyone gain from this? The same for benson. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:54:12 But paying them both off will save us money long term?
Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:59:12 Benson will want a decent sum though no doubt Well if it's only worth a quarter of a player, it's still better than nothing....if there's no advantage to us then there'll be no point in doing it. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: china red on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 09:59:49 I like paying taxes, as long as the money collected is put to use for the greater good...there lies the problem achieving a consensus on what is the greater good, which isn't the same for all. Agreed, I plan to move to Sweden in the next year or so, high taxes but you can actually see the evidence of it so I don't mind so much. Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Red Jed on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 10:00:23 But paying them both off will save us money long term? Not being pedantic but geuinely how do you come to that conclusion? as paying them off will keep the wage budget the same as it is now, if they signed for someone on loan or full time then they would cover all or part of their wages for the loan term freeing up wage budget for new players.Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 10:00:37 I think Jed said last night on Twitter that Luton weren't going to get Benson for what they are currently offering.
Surely a league 2 side will want to pick up Benson before the window closes? Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 10:03:38 If there is no interest in either player then it should be considered in my opinion.
It's just a thought anyway, as we don't know if there has been any interest. I just hate paying people for sitting on their arses doing nothing. Absolutely its not a good situation to be in by any means, if a player is unwilling to play for the team as has been suggested then he should be denied his wages as he is not fulfilling his part of the contract.Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 10:07:47 If there is no interest in either player then it should be considered in my opinion. We'd be paying the same amount whether they sat on our books or we paid up their contracts. So long as they're contracted to us, there's a possibility that we can either receive a transfer fee or sort out a loan deal which reduces the wages we pay to them over time. It's just a thought anyway, as we don't know if there has been any interest. I just hate paying people for sitting on their arses doing nothing. If we paid them off we wouldn't be able to afford a replacement for either. That's the thing isn't for everyone saying we should be playing him it's fairly obvious that no one really wants him.. I see Cheltenham haven't come back in for him and they have needed a striker all Summer.Title: Re: Adver News: Why Ward chose a pay cut to stay at Town Post by: iffy on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 12:18:13 “There’s an incredible amount of work being done behind the scenes but, like anything, with these changes being made it does take time. You can’t expect things to be there and be rosy straight away,” he said.
“We’ve got a new training ground, a new board, a new chairman, a new manager, a new outlook on how to play – there’s so much you need to consider – new players, new contracts getting signed, players being happy, injuries. There’s such a lot of work that’s gone on over the last six months. “We’re all trying to pull together with the best intentions to make sure that this club is sustainable and it can move on to the future and be successful.” This is the best communication to come out of the club in weeks. I'd make him assistant manager, and give him jed's twitter password as well. Cats are evil, but apart from that, Ward is a cracking chap. Doesn't get the applauds he deserves, both as a footballer and a bloke. Bravo I say.
