This would suggest that he's not a fan of dear ol' Ferry. He won't be down there with Portsmouth for long. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Stegenfreud on Thursday, July 25, 2013, 21:58:13 About his level lets be honest :bye: It's not like he was an integral part in two play-off seasons in the league above was it? Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Nomoreheroes on Thursday, July 25, 2013, 22:57:55 So, Si Ferry was a fans favourite. He served us well. However, the terms of his contract didn't fit in with the new direction. But, sometimes, you just have to let go.

Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: wigglesworth on Friday, July 26, 2013, 06:14:41 are you dim? yes, but don't get personal :D I don't see a stack of league one and championship clubs queuing up to take him do you? hence he's ended up at a league 2 club in freefall. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: london_red on Friday, July 26, 2013, 06:34:10 yes, but don't get personal :D I don't see a stack of league one and championship clubs queuing up to take him do you? hence he's ended up at a league 2 club in freefall. He clearly doesn't make a great first impression, as his struggles to get a club and a couple of managers' initial reluctance to pick him would indicate. Think we can all agree he's a more than handy League 1 player though when in form, would probably be better than that if he could shoot. Don't think Pompey are in freefall anymore either, fancy they'll piss that league this season. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Peter Gibbons on Friday, July 26, 2013, 06:38:05 About his level lets be honest :bye: I thought he might have stayed in League 1 - perhaps joining Darby and Connell at Bradford. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, July 26, 2013, 06:51:17 I see he's taken a decent paycut to join Pompey.
For someone that was so well regarded here, I'm a bit surprised he didn't have more offers. Seems that he had a trial at Yeovil and that was about it. Was training with Bris City too if I remember correctly! Ferry leaves us essentially because he was too expensive for Austerity Swindon. And he ends up at a club with a wage bill significantly lower than our own (even if it isn't half of what ours is, as reported). I'm sure I've posted previously that he can't have been that expensive, can he? And if, as has been suggested, he was prepared to take a cut to move to Portsmouth, would he not have been prepared to take a small cut to stay with us?
It just feels to me that we have let one of our top performers from recent years go too easily. Youth is all well & good, but you need experience as well to provide some balance. Maybe, and I should whisper this quietly to avoid being lynched, he was not really as good as people thought so he was not offered a new deal for footballing reasons. Clearly Power thought he wasn't up to scratch and him dropping a league backs up the decision to let him go.It just feels to me that we have let one of our top performers from recent years go too easily. Youth is all well & good, but you need experience as well to provide some balance. Yeah, I would have him in our current side but I think some people need to come to terms with the fact that he is really not as good as they thought. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: DV on Friday, July 26, 2013, 09:59:21 I had the same thought but the end of the day it's not about total budget set but remaining budget available.
If ours is 2.4m and we are spending 2.6m then we have -0.2m to spend. If Portsmouths is 1.2m but they are currently only spending 0.6m then they have a further 0.6m to work with. We could have at least tried some to offer slightly reduced terms, what's the worst that could have happened, he says no and left on a free.... Him and Devera are losses to our squad, no doubt... Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Trashbat? on Friday, July 26, 2013, 09:59:45 Judging by the way that Kmac began to use Ferry on the wing, you get the feeling he perhaps was just not wanted.
Either that or it was a toss up between Al Mac and Ferry over who stayed due to wages, it then back fired and we ended up with neither. Nope, he's better than people think. A lot of our fans are not intelligent enough to see what he bought to the team. Youth is all well & good, but you need experience as well to provide some balance. That depends if the spurs yoof HAVE to play. If so then he is too expensive to sit on the bench. That's a big if. But it's one of many explanations. I think it more likely the budget was being cut as quickly as possible and getting rid of out of contract players was simplest. Regardless of the on field consequences. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: horlock07 on Friday, July 26, 2013, 11:28:05 This is what I don't understand. I would suspect that a month essentially on the rock and roll and the fact that the new season starts ina couple of weeks may have made Mr Ferry a little more flexible on his wage expectations. People forget that at this level players have mortgages to pay. Title: Re: Adver News: Ferry signs for Portsmouth Post by: Arriba on Friday, July 26, 2013, 11:31:12 Nope, he's better than people think. A lot of our fans are not intelligent enough to see what he bought to the team. What he brought is clear. What is also clear is that he is limited as a player and has dropped a level. We will definitely miss him this season though so you'll rate him even more now he's gone. |
