Title: Eagles up Post by: kerry red on Monday, May 27, 2013, 17:04:29 Good luck to Palace in the PL. Looks they will need it!
Glad it's them and not Twatford. Hated those fuckers when their fans spat on us from above as we were leaving the ground last time I went to Vicarage Road. And the fiddling the loan system this year pissed me off Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: JanTheMan on Monday, May 27, 2013, 19:02:18 I went today as got a ticket in the middle tier with work. Have to say the Palace fans were outstanding. If you remember when we went in 07, they've got a load of Italian style ultras who wear black. Apparently the club reserved them a block of tickets right behind the goal. Although there were only 300 or so, they didn't stop and most of the time got the other 34,700 going. Watford were absolute gash on that front. Probably even worse than us on our two visits.
Hate to say it, but as a neutral mainly interested in drinking/eating, I quite enjoyed 'club wembley'.....but I suppose that's why it works. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Langers on Monday, May 27, 2013, 19:24:04 It's incredible how many people around here are suddenly massive Palace fans ::)
They are almost as bad as Reading. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: jonny72 on Monday, May 27, 2013, 19:32:25 They are almost as bad as Reading. Why? I don't mind them, always liked their kit with the sash. Only just occurred to me that they were my local team where I grew up, guess I'd be supporting them if we hadn't of moved when I was a kid. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: chalkies_shorts on Monday, May 27, 2013, 19:55:23 They were always a jinx team for us and Bright and Wright were massive cocks every time they played us. I remember going to Palace in old Div 2 and we were 1-1 and net thing the ref has given a pen to them although the Fridge had a bloody great big ball mark on his shirt.
Horrible place to get to and horrible when you're there. Don't like Watford either - the fucking walk out of the away end is exhausting. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: THE FLASH on Monday, May 27, 2013, 20:34:38 I remember that league cup game....pissed wet through at Palace.
Can you name the three teams we have played at Selhust Park that were not Palace? Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: chalkies_shorts on Monday, May 27, 2013, 20:37:56 Pikeys, Charlton & one other Barnsley in the cup in 1910 or whatever
Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: DV on Monday, May 27, 2013, 20:39:32 Wimbledon?
Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Langers on Monday, May 27, 2013, 20:43:35 Why? In terms of the amount of 'fans' that appear with success. But then again I suppose it is the same for every team. Maybe i'm just bitter that my local team won the play offs and we didn't. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, May 27, 2013, 20:56:24 I'm suprised that Palace are a bit of a yo-yo club in the premier league era, yet still always seem to be financially fucked.
Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: JanTheMan on Monday, May 27, 2013, 21:21:42 It's incredible how many people around here are suddenly massive Palace fans ::) They are almost as bad as Reading. Wasn't fussed either way who won and was simply looking for a good game/atmosphere. Palace fans were just a lot better. We could learn a thing or two as im pretty certain if we play there again in the near future (wishful thinking) it will be the same old story. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: TheMajorSTFC on Monday, May 27, 2013, 21:22:40 I'm suprised that Palace are a bit of a yo-yo club in the premier league era, yet still always seem to be financially fucked. You'd like to think the potential £120million would help their cause Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Monday, May 27, 2013, 21:25:57 Love Holloway, him v Paolo could be tasty next season. Only wanted Palace to go up for the entertainment of seeing him on match of the day week in week out.
Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: cheltred69 on Monday, May 27, 2013, 21:57:43 Always liked Palace since Don Rogers played for them. Also were my local team for 8 years.
I understand what you're saying Langers. I lived in Croydon when Palace reached the FA cup final in 1990, and when normally you'd hardly see any evidence of support for them, every other car was flying red and blue streamers for a couple of weeks. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 06:47:51 I'm still trying to work out if Zaha is any good or not. Yesterday he was almost unplayable, but at times tries to do way way too much.
I think he has the ability to be a top player, but not convinced if he is going to make it at Man Yoo or not. He certainly won't get away with being a greedy fucker at Old Trafford! Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: jimmy_onions on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 07:16:24 Say what you like about Palace, but they have the bragging rights (in English league) to what in my humble opinion is the best song in football...
"we love you, we love you.... Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Bumpkin on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 09:56:16 Palace were our traditional bogey team, but I have enjoyed Peppermint Town winning their as well as Super Graz scoring in a 2-1 win their as well.
Not that bothered which of them went up, either way, they're finishing 20th in the PL next season. But.... it's all a bit wrong that 2/3 years ago they were in administration and now they have this massive windfall. Now they have all this cash should they not be paying off those creditors that they owed a fortune to? If I had a business that supplied them with goods or services and they only paid me 10p in every pound they owed me (or whatever it was) I would be looking for the rest of the cash this morning. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:03:57 Palace were our traditional bogey team. Not sure where you've got that from.....they have won 7 more than us from about 112 fixtures going back over a 100 years. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: joteddyred on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:08:24 Not sure where you've got that from.....they have won 7 more than us from about 112 fixtures going back over a 100 years. Based on stats who are our real bogey team Reg? Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:15:48 Based on stats who are our real bogey team Reg? Charlton, followed by Southampton then Bristol Shitty.Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:16:14 For the record Palace are 8th in the list of bogey teams.

Good question...Doncaster spring to mind as someone we've a terrible record against but haven't played too often. I daresay there'll be something on Richard B's site.... Interestingly, we've beaten just about every traditional team in English football, at some time or other....and lost to them as well except Rochdale...thank you Elliot Benyon Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:24:32 For the record Palace are 8th in the list of bogey teams. http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/StatAttack/TeamLeagueTable.asp?Type=WorstRecords How do you figure that? Looks like 31st to me... Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:38:05 Based on stats who are our real bogey team Reg? We've a bad record v Chelsea, mainly because of games in the FA cup, in th early years, and we've not played them much since, but I've seen us beat them twice once in the LC 63/64 and then in the Simod Cup game when we stuffed them 4-0. I can recall being particularly happy beating Forest 2-1 in the early noughties, which I think was the first time ever. A game, strangely memorable for our first goal being headed in by Rory Fallon from a cross by Nicky Summerbee. Similarly I enjoyed beating Leeds 3-2 in mid 90's with a Ross McBlobby piledriver, which was possibly the first time. I note the presence of Cheltnumb high on that list....I'd like to see us win at Whaddon Road. It was fairly obvious they'd be a bogey team, when they benefited from dodgy red cards, and goals being deflected in from range etc. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 10:58:04 How do you figure that? Looks like 31st to me... Based upon 50+ games being played against the opposition, 50 being a suitable number (IMO) for a long term analysis.Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 11:09:23 Based upon 50+ games being played against the opposition, 50 being a suitable number (IMO) for a long term analysis. The problem with 50, is that it does tend to balance out a bit, so although in some cases like Charlton etc, we've a reord well in deficit, we have managed to beat them quite a few times. For me a proper bogey team is someone you just don't seem to be able to beat. Away matches, often throw up the worst examples...in some cases a bit inexplicably, like Doncaster and Cheltnumb Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 11:33:18 I know exactly what you mean about some teams we just cannot seem to beat such as Donny and 'Numb no matter what, the Pox of late as well are somewhat of a bogey side even though if you go back a few years they were anything but that.

First town game I ever went to, my dad took me, we arrived late and misssed the first goal. He certainly won't get away with being a greedy fucker at Old Trafford! They'll coach all the bad habits out of him, see Ronaldo... I know it's a slightly different kettle of fish now that Fergie has move upstairs but they should still be up to it. Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Bukkake Regiment on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 12:36:35 Based upon 50+ games being played against the opposition, 50 being a suitable number (IMO) for a long term analysis. We have a 71% win record against Rotherham, from 28 games. I'd still say that's long term as they've always been in the league.Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Bumpkin on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, 13:31:19 of course I never ever questioned the old bloke who told me Palace were our bogey team, it was the 1980's, my Commodore 64 didn't connect to the Internet.
I stand corrected. Either way, the money side of them going up is all a bit weird, mind you, three of the four teams in the Championship Play-offs have been in admin ion the last 10 years or so haven't they? Or am I going all Dr Chang on this? Title: Re: Eagles up Post by: Honkytonk on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, 09:24:36 Well done to Holloway, more managers like him in the top tier of English football are needed, will honestly look forward to MotD next season with Fergie gone and my avatar there. Good for what could possibly be Kevin Phillips' last kick of his career to be that one too, Holloway showed some commitment in bringing a 39 year-old in on loan from his old club and it paid off.
Almuniah was on fire in that match, I was half expecting him to score Watford's equaliser in those last couple of corners of the game. On the other hand though, Croydon will be even more of a fucking nightmare on match days now... |
