Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 14:06:21 Where in Turkey? Babbacombe is nice at this time of year. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 14:09:02 I only ask as the missus has an apartment in Turkey.
only been to Torquay once for football. Pretty sure Jamie Cureton had his trademark putting the ball over the bar from 4 yards in that match. 1-1 draw I think. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: 4D on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 14:14:40 I hope you defrosted it first.

Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Mother Brown on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 20:38:12 Went to Marmaris(spolling) on a day trip a few years back.
Cheap as fuck if you are into Efes and snide tracksuits. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 20:38:33 It's not cheap anymore.
Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 20:45:14 Gumbet Don't know it, google tells me it's near Bodrum. I've been to kusadasi a few times now. First time I think efes was 4 tl, this year it's around 6.5 tl. Definitely not cheap anymore as you say jayo. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: leefer on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 20:59:58 No place in the world is cheap anymore.....not for tourists anyway.
Clacton On Sea probably is your best bet if you want cheap. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Peter Gibbons on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 21:03:42 No place in the world is cheap anymore.....not for tourists anyway. Clacton On Sea probably is your best bet if you want cheap. Most of the places that are cheap when you get there, are expensive to get too (i.e. long haul). I know a quite a few people that have been to Gambia in the last few years. They weren't people I think of as particularly well off so I can only assume it's a pretty cheap option. Can anyone confirm? Title: Re: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: sonicyouth on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 21:07:45 Norway is really cheap
Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 21:17:31 Heading to Thailand in less than a month. Surely that's cheap?

Efes is wonderful stuff.Cheap as fuck if you are into Efes and snide tracksuits. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, May 17, 2013, 06:57:11 Efes is wonderful stuff. Couldn't agree more. A cold Efes by the sea is a real treat! Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: jayohaitchenn on Friday, May 17, 2013, 08:18:27 Yeah Efes is alright. Apparently not really Turkish though??
I was all inclusive so didn't get a pint out and about but went for lunch/dinner/cocktails a few times. All very pricey but they will haggle with you, even in a 'proper' restaurant. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Flashheart on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:20:41 Heading to Thailand in less than a month. Surely that's cheap? Whereabouts are you going? Do you want to go out boozing? (How much would you drink?) Would you want to go on all the tours? Could you eat the cheap Thai food or will you need Western food? How long is a piece of string? Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:32:36 Whereabouts are you going? Not sure yet. Planning to fly into Bangkok, stay there for a couple of days and then go Island hopping probably Do you want to go out boozing? (How much would you drink?) Nah, a few beers probably but not to get wasted. Going with the good lady, not a lads holiday. Would you want to go on all the tours? Not really. Generally will try and do our own thing, but possibly a few tours here and there. Could you eat the cheap Thai food or will you need Western food? Will definately want to sample as much Thai food as possible, love the stuff and can't wait to try the real deal! How long is a piece of string? 4ft 2. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Flashheart on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:51:58 How much you spend in Thailand depends a lot on you. Some people are happpy spending a fiver a day (accommodation excluded) where others will spend a lot more.
Thai food is nice but it is often poor quality out here (the fat isn't trimmed etc). You should also expect it to be a lot spicier than you are used to at home. Eating Western food can get pricey. I've probably not helped much, but there's no definitive answer really. Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: 4D on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:55:22 It would be cheaper for BO if he stayed at your gaff.
Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Flashheart on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:56:37 Great idea, I need a baby sitter.
Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, May 17, 2013, 09:58:25 Great idea, I need a baby sitter. haha! no deal! Cheers for the feedback. I like spicy, so the food bit sounds ideal! I hear what you are saying about making it as cheap as you want, will go with the flow and take it from there! If I need any more advice, I know exactly where to come! Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: Flashheart on Friday, May 17, 2013, 10:08:41 Coolio
And give me a shout if you're up for a few bevvies in Bangkok Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: bigbobjoylove on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 08:32:46 Was there any discontent when you were there, Jay?
Seems to be not far off a full civil revolt, especially if reports of the military being divided is true - http://occupygezipics.tumblr.com/ Meanwhile, Turkish TV isn't covering it at all - https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/935439_10151535860905889_199045873_n.jpg Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: jayohaitchenn on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 08:41:32 There was some sort of car bomb, possibly by the Syrians but I didn't pay too much attention. The Turks seems to be a very laid back people but apparently the touristy areas are like that and the rest of the country is a lot different.

The Turks seems to be a very laid back people but apparently the touristy areas are like that and the rest of the country is a lot different. The east is generally deemed pretty dangerous. But as you say the tourist areas are generally more secular and there are few problems. The Turks and the Kurds don't exactly see eye to eye! Title: Re: Been in Turkey for a week Post by: jayohaitchenn on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 12:50:49 Turks and Kurds work side by side in many places around Bodrum. The bartender in our hotel was Kurdish.
