Title: Re: Adver News: Samsung extend club sponsorship Post by: Riddick on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 07:41:10 Having Samsung as the major sponsor does make it feel better......until you realise Orient have them as well! Its a bit like the old Nationwide sponsorship.

Will be worth a watch.
Title: Re: Adver News: Samsung extend club sponsorship Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 09:38:29 I know its just a sponsor, but somehow having an international company sponsoring us feels so much better than the normal local fare Down the years we haven't done too badly for shirt sponsors....off the top of my head the 1st was Isis a building firm in Stratton Road I've alluded to elsewhere, then came Lowndes Lambert, an insurance company with offices in the now predictably empty Aspen House...Temple Street. (Surely needs pulling down) LL were instrumental in bringing Macari to the club. Then came GWR, seemed a local, but used Swindon's growth to develop a minor media empire. Did some good stuff though, bringing the abilty to find out about matches at Stockport, without having to wait until next day, if you didn't go, and giving Vic Morgan a break :) They were replaced by Burmah Castrol, in some shape or form. Bit ambivalent about them, a company with a dodgy record i the far east, that had Dennis Thatcher as a Director. They also brought us Rikki...who ran their much smaller forecourt operation. Jed...Rikki, Rikki...Jed. I liked having Nationwide....local, but also national, a major player, but still retaining some semblance of a moral compass. Now the daddy...Kingswood, the lettering and logo rapidly falling off the shirt, a metaphor for the club rapidly falling apart. 4-4-2...a credible football sponsor. Could be used again as a reminder to KMac. Then Samsung...a company bent on global hegemony...it's a modern world. Title: Re: Adver News: Samsung extend club sponsorship Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 13:59:20 Reg, I see in today's Adver that the council are asking themselves for planning permission to demolish Aspen House and the old Registry Office. They'll probably deny themselves the opportunity then. I'd imagine over the next 20 years or so, most of Swindon's office accomodation will either come down or be converted to some sort of low cost social flats...just no need for them in the 21st Century. Title: Re: Adver News: Samsung extend club sponsorship Post by: dagrumpymunki on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 19:53:47 Just as a reminder Reg, this is what I got wound up about on the "Sponsorship" thread a week or so ago. Three pages of miserable buggers absolutely sure that there was no chance we'd be able to maintain any of our big corporate sponsors, and that the shirts next season would be emblazoned with the name of a local chip shop.
Based on ........ oh idle and wildly inaccurate speculation. I've no problem with people having doubts about the board, that's their right, but people just inventing things to have a go at them about is just fucking irritating. Why didn't you say earlier, I'd have been far more negative. I've just re read that thread and most of it is the sort of 80% bollocks that is the lifeblood of the TEF, which is why I couldn't understand what your beef is about, then or now. How does that work? Is it just an internal memo? Or maybe they just shake on the deal by the coffee machine? Are those buildings all empty now? I saw the shop that used to be Circle 7 was boarded up with a sign saying "bought by the council for redevelopment". Or something like that. I'm with you reg. Nope they make a formal application... to themselves, if there is a fee payable they even have to pay... themselves. Its all a bit of a farce but at times that's the planning system. |
