Title: Re: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: herthab on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:31:57 Yeah. Happy imaginary person day.
Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Honkytonk on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:33:25 Yeah. Happy imaginary person day. No worse than Christmas or Easter. Except of course you don't get the day off. Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: skay on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:36:12 Finishing my 10,000 word Dissertation on Linguistics. Then going to Weatherspoons in Coventry and be a complete and utter cunt in my Guiness foam hat.

No. Whether you believe Jesus was the son of God or not, it's widely accepted he existed. A dragon slaying knight on the other hand......Title: Re: Re: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:43:59 No. Whether you believe Jesus was the son of God or not, it's widely accepted he existed. A dragon slaying knight on the other hand...... Hang on a minute...there's Dragon Hill at Uffington, complete with its permanent white spot where nothing grows, where the dragon slaying happened....which is why a dragon was etched in the chalk. You've convinced me.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/89/Dragon_Hill.jpg/280px-Dragon_Hill.jpg How much more evidence do you want? Are you at Warwick or Coventry?Title: Re: Re: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: 4D on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:55:20 Code: A dragon slaying knight on the other hand...... I thought he was a roman soldier who was beheaded Title: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:56:19 You've convinced me. You'll be telling me next that St Patrick never banished snakes and lizards from Ireland...after scaling Croagh Patrick and issuing his command. Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Honkytonk on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 14:57:31 No. Whether you believe Jesus was the son of God or not, it's widely accepted he existed. A dragon slaying knight on the other hand...... Actually, Jesus is widely regarded as a composite figure in some respects. Like most Saints, it's likely his story was embellished/added to by various people. And whilst I'm not saying St. George was everything the Victorians made him, he was definitely a real, historical figure. I know it's wiki, but I really can't be arsed to find the book I own with him in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._George#Saint_George_and_the_dragon Title: Re: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: herthab on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 15:13:43 I stand corrected. (Although it's all bollocks anyway, isn't it?)
Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 15:18:18 I'd have loved to have lived in the age when dragons walked the earth and men lived happily alongside dwarfs and elves.
Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: 4D on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 15:19:34 You do know you work in Calne, right?
Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: Honkytonk on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 16:36:18 I stand corrected. (Although it's all bollocks anyway, isn't it?) Oh god yes. Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: dagrumpymunki on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, 10:21:27 Why does St. George, a Greek martyr, always get depicted as an English crusader now? That's about 1,000 years after his time surely?
Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: DMR on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, 10:34:15 Why does St. George, a Greek martyr, always get depicted as an English crusader now? That's about 1,000 years after his time surely? Who actually cares? Title: Re: Happy St George's Day Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, 10:37:52 Fucking disgraceful. So it's ok to get pissed on St. Patricks day, but if me and my EDL mates go out with our engerland shirts, flags and a crate of Carling each then we're not allowed entry into the pub. Political correctness gone mad.
