Title: Utility Bills
Post by: kerry red on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 18:31:22
Trying to get a feel for what to expect bill wise when I move back to Swindon next month.

Any guidance on what we'll get clobbered for gas/electric, council tax and water would be appreciated.

Initially we will be renting a 2 bed in Rodbourne

About £10k a year

With an estimate like that, I'm not surprised redundancy looms.

I've got a 3 bed terrace in Rodbourne

Gas is roughly £80 quid for the warmer quarters and £160 winter(gas CH and Cooker ) think electric is about £70 a month.Council Tax around £100 a month(x10) and waters £160 twice a year I think

What you all on about?

I'll amend my original estimate to £3k a year.

Water £400 if metered, £600 if not.
Gas £500
Electric £700
Council Tax £1300

Pretty close to your original estimate then, give or take about 300%

Hmmm, if you add rent, tv licence, comms etc then £10k is a pretty good assumption.

And you're an accountant?

To be fair to 4D with my mortgage and bills i spend just over £12k a year - yes that's London prices but it's just for me, not a family etc so he's not far off the mark for a family or couple in Swindon.

£6.6k rent
£150 tv licence
£250 phones

add this to the £3k utilities = £10k

Capiche?

Just helping KR out, I know he only wanted to know the utilities cost, I was looking at the bigger picture. :)

No FH, never serious.

Haha Sonic, I often feel like that.

Thanks for the heads up

Whatever they are they can't be more expensive than Ireland.

Electric 70 pm
Wood pellet CH 160pm
Coal 60 pm
Petrol 400pm
Car Insurance 100pm (for 2 vehicles)
Car Tax 800pa (for 2 vehicles)

And dont get me started on groceries

I feel we should probably hear a little bit more about the groceries.

1.58 per litre petrol

1.50 per litre diesel

that's about £1.35 and £1.30

If that's your take on exchange rates you're going to get a surprise over here

I know precisely the exchange rates

81p = 1 euro

Very precise - so why did you use 85.4/86.66  for petrol calculations ?

4D do you mean £10k as a couple or £10k per person?

Title: Re: Utility Bills

Per household. I would imagine you could knock off a grand for someone on their own.
