Title: Horror Films Post by: jonny72 on Saturday, November 17, 2012, 15:54:36 Does anyone actually get scared or freaked out by horror films? If so, which ones?
I can't remember any horror film ever getting to me, a good few have made me laugh though. The only thing that did freak me out and still sends shivers down my spine is the Doctor Who Blink episode, I haven't felt the same about statues ever since. Nor snowmen now, due to someone doing a Blink remix of the John Lewis Xmas 2012 tv ad; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPAqy7RU3nc Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, November 17, 2012, 15:56:02 That is ace.
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, November 19, 2012, 10:19:18 Horror films just aren't scary. I'm far more likely to be scared by a Sci-Fi or a Thriller.
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, November 19, 2012, 10:26:44 I don't find them scary either. Occasionally the gore in some films can make me feel a little queasy.
Don't get the chance to watch them that much though because the wife's a massive wimp and refuses to watch them. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, November 19, 2012, 12:28:17 I watch loads because my mrs loves them. Antichrist is pretty good. Not scary really but there are some WTF moments and the photography is amazing.
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: wiggy on Monday, November 19, 2012, 12:46:58 There have been some good serializations on TV over the years - Salems Lot springs to mind, although it might seem a bit dated now.
BBC1 started an adaptation of a James Herbert novel last night, The Secret of Crickley Hall - it was sa very promising start. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 00:04:48 Stephen King's IT is the one I find the 'scariest', more because you you see IT from a kids perspective and then that fear comes back when they're adult. Even so I think horrors just seem to creep me out at best rather than scare me.
I much prefer a decent psychological thriller, quite often the mindfuck can creep me out more than any horror. Or something of a crossover, like Kill List which is a decent thriller which somehow turns into a confused and rather bizarre ending which makes no sense to the rest of the film. But the ending leaves your mind in tatters. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 08:40:09 I don't find them scary, they just seem to make you jump. I did quite enjoy Paranormal Activity, although telling the bird I watched it with that it was real, and her believing me, no doubt meant she enjoyed it more.
I watched The Blair Witch Project in the cinema and there were parts of that which genuinely scared me shitless. I recall having to look away from the screen and relax a couple of times. I thought that was superb. When I was younger, films like Nightmare on Elm Street were good and I also remember The Entity and Salem's Lot, giving me very uncomfortable and sleepless nights for seemingly weeks on end. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: pauld on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 09:28:51 BBC1 started an adaptation of a James Herbert novel last night, The Secret of Crickley Hall - it was sa very promising start. The missus read that and gave it to me to read a few years back. Scared the pants off me as a book, be interesting to see how well it does on tellyTitle: Re: Horror Films Post by: wiggy on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 09:32:51 Anything with Z zombies Have you seen Zombie Lake? Possibly the funniest film I have ever watched - bad story line and very low production values. Link NSFW. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnfm14_zombie-lake-1981-18-r-full-film-part-1-of-2-video-dailymotion_shortfilms#.UKtODoYpPKw Title: Re: Re: Horror Films Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 09:38:28 No, will check it out.
One of the scariest films I've seen was Eden Lake, not sure whether you can describe it as a horror film though. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: jayohaitchenn on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 12:38:01 Dead Man's Shoes is scary. Not horror though.
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: 4D on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 12:39:53 I quite enjoyed Dead Silence
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Loobug on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 12:43:07 Not everyone would agree but I liked The Blair witch project, and the Japanese version of the ring is also worth a watch (better than the US remake).
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: THE FLASH on Saturday, November 24, 2012, 21:41:42 John Carpenters The Thing...excellent and of course the Excorcist.

Not that gory but this film gave me the shits........and since watching it have decided horror is not for me,only ever watched about two horror films since....and that was two to many. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, November 25, 2012, 18:25:51 BBC1 started an adaptation of a James Herbert novel last night, The Secret of Crickley Hall. There was something similar a year or two ago on the BBC at Xmas which creeped me out. Can't remember what it was called. About a nanny who was in prison for killing someone (maybe one of the children) except she didn't, set years ago, might have had young twins, who maybe weren't dead, a gardener and a woman who was dead. Or something like that. Anyone remember what it was called? Think it was based on a book by a well known author. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Batch on Sunday, November 25, 2012, 19:13:20 Scary Poppins!
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, November 25, 2012, 19:46:04 Anyone remember what it was called? Think it was based on a book by a well known author. It was Turn of the Screw based on the Henry James book. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: 4D on Monday, November 26, 2012, 09:08:07 ^ Heeeeeerreees Jonny.
Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: Flashheart on Monday, November 26, 2012, 09:27:28 Some movie with vampire type thingies living in a cave deep underground. Can't remember the name of it.
The movie itself was average and not at all scary. What did shit me up though was a diver getting stuck in a narrow tunnel and unable to move. Even if it's fiction that shit still gives me the heebiejeebies. I have to look away. That's the badger. 'The descent', for the sake of pedantry. Title: Re: Horror Films Post by: THE FLASH on Monday, November 26, 2012, 19:39:46 That's the badger.
