Title: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: fatbasher on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 23:02:22 Think it's time to reassess my outgoings for the above. I currently have BT broadband @ £20 per month and the line rental of £14 per month. Now I asked her indoors when was the last time she used the land line to call someone when she has her face constantly glued to her iPhone. I have a company iPhone and I also added her old Nokia to the contract for a nominal fee (don't want the co to know everyone I call!). So totalling all our communication out goings I reckon we shell out £89 per month for all that lot. We also have Sky.
The point or question is I'm happy with the arrangements so to speak but I know that you all know that this can be provided by a plethora of providers at a much reduced rate. So where can I can get this without spending the next month of my life trying to do so? Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Jimmy Glass is an Alien on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 07:17:41 I know what you mean. It seems you have to have a landline to have broadband, although I know if you have broadband without the landline it then shoots the price up. It depends on your needs for the broadband, do you work from home? Do you need fibre optic etc?

Go on a comparison site and compare products I'd suggest

Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Ticker45 on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 13:55:56 I had the complete Sky package but still had to pay BT for line rental. Recently moved over to Virgin (as Sky box packed up) and got a good deal. Internet much faster through fibre-optic connection and no BT charge. To break down all the options available from various sources is a real pain though as they all seem to be offering this and that off for the first few months.
:hmmm: Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 17:23:28 o2 are even cheaper if you have an o2 mobile- work or not. I pay £3.50 pm for broadband. That's only if they've got equipment in your exchange. They wanted to charge me £35 a month including line rental. Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: wiggy on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 00:35:07 Bump.
Who are people using these days? Looking to leave Talk Talk and not looking to go to fibre. Some neighbours really rate EE, saying it is very stable. Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: kerry red on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 07:04:39 I've got the Sky bundle - includes landline and broadband and, of course, Sky TV package.
The monthly does vary slightly because of any variance of calls made, but last month it was £79 Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 08:14:56 Virgin broadband only, it's a bit more expensive but the service is top notch. Plus you actually get the speed you pay for.
Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Batch on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 08:18:48 Don't forget to check out quidco and topcashback if you do switch to see if the package you want is a) available through them b) offers cashback..
Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: london_red on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 09:14:50 Virgin bundle pretty decent - similar to Sky in price but broadband quicker and better service as Jayo says.
Think we pay £55 a month for broadband, basic phone package and the medium TV channel set, plus Sky Sports (SD). Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. They all get slated by one person or another Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Loobug on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 12:45:38 I'm with Virgin (left BT ages ago because support was non-existant). I agree, that you get the speed you pay for generally. If it breaks, which it hasn't often and it is fixed quickly and it's easy to find out if they are working on it, get updates etc. I pay £65 for BB, TV and landline (which includes £5 for some internal calling somethingorother for the missus) and that is for a 20GB pipe.
Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Gnasher on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 13:18:42 We switched to Sky as our BT bill was £170 per quarter (only £20 worth of calls). Unlimited Sky is free for 6 months so we're saving a packet. However, it's not as reliable as BT (despite coming through the same BT line) and disconnects every day at peak times (after 12 noon and after 5pm).

Well it only goes through the same lines to a point... Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: chunky monkey on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 14:34:46 If you can get Virgin cable you don't have to have a phone line

Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Arriba on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 14:58:03 Anyone having speed issues with their internet may be able to increase it simply by removing the bell-ring wire from your bt master socket(the point where your phone line enters your home). It's not needed with modern phones and can cause interference.
It worked wonders for me and is a piece of piss to do yourself. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm http://www.skyuser.co.uk/tutorials/how_to_remove_the_ring_wire_from_your_master_socket.html Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, November 7, 2013, 21:03:12 I'm with BT. The price is reasonable and whenever I've had problems they've been quick to resolve them.

(http://img.pandawhale.com/42924-haters-gonna-hate-fat-kid-gif-VHex.gif) Never had major problems with BT as an ISP, other than the fact rural broadband is still in a shit state. Some people nicked all the copper cabling out of the exchange in the village and instead of using the opportunity to replace it with fibre they replaced it with.... copper. Two months later the exact same thing happened aaaand... copper again. Estonia can fucking do it so why is it so damned difficult in the UK? Title: Re: Telephone Line Rental & Broadband Provider. Post by: BrightonRed on Friday, November 8, 2013, 12:51:00 I had O2 broadband (as a former O2 mobile customer) which moved to sky when they bought up O2's broadband business. I changed mobile network (and therfore lost my discount) and was paying £17.50 for my broadband and £15 for the line rental which I thought was rediculous.
Phoned O2/Sky to cancel and they started offering me their retention spiel.. I wouldn't normally sign up to something over the phone but I'd already done a bit of research and didn't think I'd be able to beat what they had offered me.. So I'm currently getting Sky Unlimited Broadband, Sky Talk Weekend, Sky TV (with the Entertainment Extra + package) and a Sky+ HD box for £15.40/month for 12 months. (Line rental included in the price) The broadband speeds are reasonable for my location - 10-15mbps fairly consitently. I've had to speak to their customer services a few times because of a few teething problems and their service has been astonishingly good. UK call centres that pick up after a few rings.. So I guess the moral is - if you're a former O2 broadband customer and you're out of contract then its certainly worth making the "I'm leaving" call.. |
