Title: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 18:21:54 In my defence it was trying to rip my Labrador's neck to pieces and was the only way left to stop the damn devil dog.
Was pretty horrific but luckily no lasting damage, just a couple of puncture marks around the back of her head. As an animal lover, it feels a little odd to deliberately hurt another animal but the thought of what could've happened doesn't bear thinking about. Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 18:51:42 Had to punch it right on the snout and luckily it let go do my dog could run off. Unfortunately I didn't know it was only superficial wounds otherwise I would've called the fucking police and had the thing destroyed. No idea who the owner was but will be giving him a fucking mouthful if I see him again.

Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: wiggy on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 18:54:35 A bloke near me has two weimeraners which have attacked my dog twice.
Bloody scary when you are involved in it. Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: ScillyRed on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 19:05:13 Thought your whippet would have been able to run away :dog:
One of my whippets got attacked by a boxer & an alsatian when he was a puppy - when he sees one now it's 'payback time' The other whippet just stands still and she hopes that the dog doesn't notice her - doesn't always work, but she is like the roadrunner when she moves. Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: wiggy on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 19:19:56 They had tried several times out in the open and he just gave them a wide birth. The 2 times they got him was when I met them down a narrow lane with a gate at the end and he was penned in.
They have attacked other dogs as well. Have flagged tham up to police and dog warden but they aren't interested. Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: fatbasher on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 23:29:15 As you may know I've recently had a dog attack on my son, they would not hurt a fly they cry. Fuck of all dogs have an inbuilt ability to attack any other dog/human without provocation.
Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, September 14, 2012, 08:16:39 Sorry to hear that fatbasher, really hope your son is okay.
Not sure I agree that every dog has that inbuilt instinct anymore, certain breeds have been domesticated for so long that, I believe, they've lost it. Having said that, there are plenty of breeds where I'd agree entirely with you, the ones which are all muscle and jaw. Having said that, there are plenty of breeds where I'd agree entirely with you, the ones which are all muscle and jaw. Even as the owner of a dog from a normally placid breed I would have to disagree with that. All dogs, however normally good natured, can't be guaranteed to act in a certain way at a certain time. As an owner, you have to be constantly aware and manage the risk. I would never leave my whippet alone with a toddler or baby, for example, because although he like to be made a fuss of, I dread to think what would happen if a little one went anywhere near his food bowl, or accidentally stepped on him. I did think about changing back to blinkpip, but was worried I would get locked out (as it happened to others) Can't believe it's been over five years since I really wound you up about stoning your dogs. Everyone grown up (apart from DMR), not much bollocks topics exist nowadays. :creep: Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: ronnie21 on Friday, September 14, 2012, 13:59:10 not much bollocks topics exist nowadays. :creep: Sorry, cannot agree with that statement, there's enough on here written about Oxford - and that's just bollocks!!!Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Friday, September 14, 2012, 14:03:08 i would stone yeos dogs, having met them i would take a fucking machine gun to them

Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, September 14, 2012, 14:46:22 Even as the owner of a dog from a normally placid breed I would have to disagree with that. All dogs, however normally good natured, can't be guaranteed to act in a certain way at a certain time. I genuinely believe it comes down to what the breed has been bred for and how it gets raised. Dogs that were bred to hunt, fight, chase, etc are far more risky than those that have been bred to help humans - St Bernards, retrievers, new foundlands, etc. When my nieces come round and start pulling my dog's tail and falling on her, she doesn't ever growl or look to get vicious, she just takes herself off out of the way. I think it helps that she's older (11 years) and has always had little ones around (see my point about how they are raised) but I'd trust her to be fine with even the most horrible little brat. Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: red socks on Friday, September 14, 2012, 17:24:24 nuture not nature - same as people, the difference is some breeds are capable of inflicting more damage due to muscle/jaw/teeth/build etc, same as people
Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, September 14, 2012, 17:51:30 Ill informed and complete nonsense, but if it makes you happy. So you think owning, say, a Japanese Tosa is just as risky as a Golden Retriever? Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, September 14, 2012, 18:04:57 nuture not nature - same as people, the difference is some breeds are capable of inflicting more damage due to muscle/jaw/teeth/build etc, same as people Oh I agree, it is largely about nurture but there must be something to this nature malarkey otherwise why would specific breeds be listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act? Title: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, September 14, 2012, 18:10:15 ...and yes I know this particular Act is far from perfect.
Title: Re: Re: I punched a dog today Post by: herthab on Friday, September 14, 2012, 18:14:48 Sure we've had a similar debate before? I've always had dogs, Doberman, Staffy, Corgi, mutts, labs and retrievers. The softest, most placid, was a staffy X, the most aggressive was the fucking Corgi!
