Title: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: fatbasher on Sunday, June 24, 2012, 21:53:37 As we are not going away (as in med holiday) or glamping this year due to the unpredictable weather and other logistical issues we decided we'd do some days out etc. These will include Hartlepool away with an overnight hotel and a theme park on the Sunday coming back. Preston away with a few days in that scummy hell hole Blackpool. The other thing I thought might be good is the Eden Project. Anyone got any comments they'd like to share? I thought two days in the area in a guesthouse or hotel to make it worthwhile......
There will be other activities like some decorating and days out but the Eden Project is the one I need some advice about. Regards Mr. Fatbasher. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Kinky Tom on Sunday, June 24, 2012, 21:56:51 go to lancaster while you're up for preston, lovely place. i trust you're staying well away from hartlepool itself? awful town...

Likely to just book a premier inn and go for some dinner somewhere. Not really interested in Hartlepool itself. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Notts red on Sunday, June 24, 2012, 22:23:31 Would suggest you go to Eden for the afternoon. You will struggle to find enough to do/ look at for a whole day and it's reduced prices in the afternoon with a lot less people there. You could split your day with the Lost gardens of Helligan which isn't to far from the Eden project and in my opinion better.

Looe is my favourite...close to Plymouth or Padstow a bit further North. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Notts red on Sunday, June 24, 2012, 22:34:50 Eden has hands on stuff for the kids and Helligan has the jungle which my kids enjoyed. Charlestown with its harbour is really close to the Eden project, been used for lots of film sets like Alice in Wonderland and DrWho along with a few pirate films. A bit further down the coast is Flambards theme park which an 8year old would love, plenty for grown ups too :) google Flambards, Britain in the blitz and the Victorian Village are brilliant. Hope this helps you choose.

Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Ginginho on Monday, June 25, 2012, 08:23:16 Went to Longleat last week, first time i've been and really enjoyed it. Loads to see and do. Book online as you get 15% discount as it is quite expensive, but well worth it.

Agree with this, Helligan is beautiful and Eden project is well worth a visit. Disagree that you'll struggle to find enough to do for a full day though.I'd recommend Pembrokeshire, especially around Tenby. Best seaside town I've ever visited. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Gnasher on Monday, June 25, 2012, 11:39:49 Our kids quite enjoyed Eden, but I can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. Would recommend staying in Mevagissey and exploring the beaches near Gorran Haven.
We tried the Norfolk coast for a change and the beaches are amazing between Cromer and Gt Yarmouth (Gt Yarmouth is a shit hole though). Plenty to do on a 2-3 day break there. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Ginginho on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 12:39:05 Is that the one that you have to drive round in your car but run the risk of the monkeys jumping on your car ? Yeah, that's the one. The monkey enclosure is optional. We decided against it, due to the fact every car driving through was covered in monkeys. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: Notts red on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 13:34:11 Weymouth...great beach and not far from Monkey world Monkey World is pretty much next door to the Bovington tank museum which if you havent been is well worth a visit.Lots to see and do at both and you could split a day in two and do both. Last time I was at Bovington they had a few tanks out on the course which was impressive, they also had the tank simulator rides inside. Title: Re: Summer Holiday Ideas Post by: nevillew on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 14:17:39 Yeah, that's the one. The monkey enclosure is optional.
