Title: Luke McCormick Poll

For Reg.

It's worth taking a look...

I think the results so far are not surprising.

In terms of giving him a job that doesn't bother me, in fact I think it's good that some people in society can help with rehabilitation and I like the fact that Jeremy Wray, Nick Watkins and Paolo Di Canio have given such a considered approach.

In footballing terms I just don't think we need him. Also no idea how he will deal with a match situation given years of not playing and of course all the added pressure from the media and terraces. For that reason I've chosen the don't like it option.

So at least 4 others will be joining the PDC protest campaign then if he signs.

This isn't the PdC protest....however if 4% of the regular 8000, boycott, then that's 320 fans lost.

It may be 4%, but 4% of 100, which is 4. So that's 4 fans lost.

I share the same sentiments, which is why I ticked the 'not bothered' option.

You could argue that if the 15% strongly in favour is repeated with the non-regulars, it could result in more people coming to show support for the club taking a proactive role in offender rehabilitation. The club and especially Wray have scored a lot of bonus points with me for their approach and handling of this so far.

You could argue that, but I suspect wrongly.  The likelihood of any stray members of the Howard League for Penal Reform, pitching up at the CG because they like Wray's work are surely zero.

Just for the record, I didn't say it was the PDC protest, I said that they would be joining them.  i.e. staying away until he's gone.

I'm sure there are quite a lot of ex-offenders out there that have struggled to find employment due to their criminal record, so I'd imagine they would look more favourably on the club if they have a positive approach towards the rehabilitation of ex-offenders.

I am all for it
Best way for an offender to re-enter society after prison is with Rehabilitation, Restoration and Reparation, which we look set to give him.
People rejecting his employment opportunities and stigmatising him only make matters for others and himself.

Ah...I read it as "joining them" to mean some sort of solidarity. PdC refuseniks can fight their own campaign.

We could turn this into the Coca Fola/Batch show but I have better things to do.  :bye:

Or alternatively

Is that a wave or a wank smilie? I guess either are better than petty arguments.

Anyway you started it :)

I don't have a problem with you Fola, in truth I have been repetitive. Don't think I've been as worked up about a potential signing like this ever. I'll try to stop repeating, however Johnny's post saying Wray had handled this well brought the red mist.

edit: is that bad dad? Great episode.

Do you think he has handled the situation badly, or just that the wrong decision was made?

Both.

I think the wrong decision was made in allowing the trial in the first place.
I found his comments today wide of the mark and did nothing to explain what I'd call the lunacy of something so controversial.

In particular this
Quote
and it has to be made clear that everybody’s thoughts can only go to the family of those two young boys and their father who was badly injured.

“Tragedy is a word used too often, but this was a tragedy and it can never be changed.

“He’ll have to live with that for the rest of his life.

“Our role comes after Luke has been sentenced."

really grates on me. If he was so concerned with the family of the real victims, he wouldn't have entertained the idea or sought their approval first.

He also goes on to dress it up as caring STFC offering "rehabilitation and integration" allowing McCormick to "..to give something back, to show the tragedies of drink driving. ".

To me playing football on a few grand a week after serving 3 1/2 years does anything but show the tragedies of drink driving.

Stinks of business is business and sod the rest to me.

Clearly not everyone will agree with what is after all my opinion.

(sorry Fola, answering a direct question)

Sorry for having a go at you. You have over 10000 posts so you're entitled to be angry once in a while.  :)

Post count has nothing to do with it. I can be reactionary, but usually temper down after a sleep. This hasn't happened this time.

Maybe it genuinly isn't about just business. He will be a no2 keeper it's not like we are looking at a star striker who we are saying fuck his past he will get us goals.

What if the club have been approached by the player etc and asked if he can go through us to do exactly what wray is saying he wants to do

Then I still think he's cocked up by saying yes, because now we have a minimum of weeks of this shit which I am admittedly part of. And worst case he signs and plays and we'll have a sizeable portion of our own fans (let alone the away fans) that will want him anywhere but in goal for us.

Plenty of other keepers around to do the #2 job. Plenty of other ways he can give back to society.

But I take the point that Wray may have been genuine with his intentions. But by his own admission he knew this shitstorm would happen

I don't get that argument, the bad press they will get just isn't worth it for the sake of potentially getting a decent keeper on the cheap. Seems to me they made the decision as they felt it was the right thing to do and they're doing it for the right reasons - to give him a chance of rehabilitation and to do some good at the same time.

Maybe something like the club helping him to promote an anti drink driving campaign. But I guess we'll have to wait and see if this is part of a bigger plan.

You could be right, or not. The reason is secondary to the act either way. But, its his club.

Makes me laugh all these people getting on their soapbox. Every single person on this forum has made a few stupid mistakes in their lifes. He's served his time in prison and judging by the Plymouth forum is very remorseful and a genuinely nice guy who made a stupid mistake.

What's he susposed to do ?? Go in hiding all his life ??

You can only imagine the shit he'll get off opposition fans so fair play to him. Lets hear him speak first.

I think there were about 4 on here and a few I know not on here. To the best of my knowledge, they've all stopped going.  I'm not sure stopping going, really means ceasing to support, or even not coming back at a later date.

It now looks like common sense is going to prevail here....I'm sure there wont be many who will complain about  trying to help rehabilitate the fella to become a useful member of society. Not sure that Mr Wray's aspersion on supermarket shelf stackers was needed, if he was more in touch with reality he'd know that, this is a sought after job these days...to such an extent that many people do it for nothing in the hope of getting a proper paid position, by showing themselves to be good workers.
