It's Mrs Brown that's unwell. He's looking after her.

Still, football's football. 3-0 town.

Can't go tonight - had to choose between JPT or FA Cup.

Fringe players will have a point to prove - Swindon to win 2-1.

I was going tonight but couldn't make Saturday. Now I can make Saturday but will miss most of the first half tonight, thanks to a stubborn wife and my daughter's Brownies club!

3-1 Town. In front of 4,086.

I'd like to see Devera, Esejas and Connell get a run out tonight.

Id like to see Easy jet on the left and Gabby on the right with Ritchie sat behind connell as a lone striker...

Ferry and Smith in the middle with any back four!

I think we would have an interesting attacking edge, maybe not, but tonights as good a night as any to test it...

I do suck at CM tho...

Would think it's P. Smith, Caddis , Flint,  Devera, Kennedy, Gabi,  Ferry,  Smith,  Easyjet/Ritchie, Connell,  Megera

would be a good idea resting Richie. His form has been up and down over the past few games and we dont want him to burn out too soon

6 from Saturdays squad or 6 with most appearances I believe the rule is?

I hope we progress in the JPT, but not at the expense of concentrating all efforts on beating 'Uddersfield  and going on a first decent FA Cup run since 1995/96.

It'll be interesting to see the line-up for this evening and how many changes PDC makes to rest players for Saturday. We've a big enough squad that need game time so hopefully Connell, Kennedy, Esajas, Gabilondo and the rest will be good enough to send us through to the Semi-Final.

Our building up to the match includes a match preview and Johno's view "Is the JPT worth the hassle...?"

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Wimbledon - Official Matchday Thread
Post by: dphunt88 on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 11:55:06
So, six players that started on Saturday have to start tonight. With that in mind, here's the eleven players that i think Di Canio will play;

Phil Smith (in for Foderingham)

Paul Caddis (c)
Alessandro Cibocchi (in for Ridehalgh)
Aden Flint
Alan McCormack

Lander Gabilondo
Rafa De Vita (in for Ritchie)
Oliver Risser (in for Smith)
Simon Ferry

Mehdi Kerrouche (in for Jervis)
Lukas Magera

Subs: Foderingham, Devera, Smith, Ritchie, Connell

He's already stated that Phil Smith will play and Kerrouche for Jervis is an obvious one given Jervis' flu-affected first half against Vale. Harsh on Ridehalgh but if Cibocchi (or Kennedy - depends on your preference) is going to play against Hudders' then I'd want him to sharpen up against the Dons tonight.

Matt Ritchie looks like he could do with a weeknight off to me. De Vita will be fresh from his own 'rest' on saturday so i'd bring him back in on the left with Gabilondo switching to the right wing. Risser for Smith is a hunch but I get the feeling that Di Canio is desperate to keep Risser involved and I think Ferry is more undroppable than Smith at the moment.

Keep a strong bench in case we're chasing the game in the second half and we're laughing! Hope we take this game very seriously despite the changes. COYR!

For some strange and perverse reason I am really looking forward to a bit of JPT action at the County Ground tonight.  I am going to go with a Swindon 3-1 AFC Wimbledon scoreline this evening with a crowd of 4,082.  My starting XI would be...

Phil Smith

Caddis
Flint
Devera
Cibocchi

De Vita
Ferry
Risser
Esajas

Connell
Magera

Subs - Lanzano, McCormack, Jonathan Smith, Kerrouche & Ritchie.

Forza Swindon!

Surely Lanzano is overdue a start given Foderingham's recent form?

I'd like Esajas and Gabi to get more of a work-out - other than that I would be wary of disrupting our rhythm too much after an excellent few weeks....

Idealy, given how little i think of this cup and who needs to play....my team would be (pending injury's i'm unaware of)

Smith
Thompson Devera Commazi Kennedy
Esajas Risser Smith Gabilondo
Connell Magera

Subs: Storey, Kerrouche, Cibocchi, De Vita, Ferry.

Given the absolutely pathetic ruling that you can't pick whoever you want, this is probably impossible.

It irks me a touch when people suggest that players need to be rested. Even though  I do comprehend the reasons why, it still winds me up. It is most boys dream job and as youngsters we were playing endless hours of football a week for fun. These cunts are getting paid a small fortune.

Anyway, I'm tired, pissed and sore from riding elephants  ;) I'm going to bed

from a hereford site

"The rules for naming the starting XI for Johnstone's Paint Trophy match's indicate that six of the eleven must be among those with the most starting appearances for the club this season.

Each club shall play it's full available strength in all matches. The Board will from time to time issue a policy as to what constitutes full available strength. Any club failing to meet this requirement will be required to pay a fine of up to £5.000"

It's a bit ambiguous to say the least. Another website says it can be either 6 of the last starting XI or six of the clubs players with most starts

Thought Magera and Gabby would get another start but if they are being rested for Saturday due to lack of match fitness then thats fine with me, a run out in the second half will keep them fresh.

Still struggling to care about this competition but extending the unbeaten run would be nice.

Might as well flip a coin.

You can see the logic though.  Has to be a greater risk of injury in extra time.  Is that worth it for the JPT?

As much as I genuinely like Smithy and want him to do well, all these "Take that Smithy haters" texts can fuck off.

The doubts are about his communication, control of the box and distribution, there has never been any doubt that he's a good shot stopper and no amount of penalty saves changes those issues.

Well done Smithy, but the self righteous texters should engage their brains.

And that's why we should have nothing to fear from a cup run (or, hopefully, runs) this season...there's depth to this squad.  More than we've had in quite a while.  We've seen Esajas, Risser and Gabilondo all come back in to contention of some sort from nowhere recently.

The only thing that perhaps worries me a little is that Di Canio might want to change the line up which has served us so well in the league lately. Needs to keep the same line up injury and suspension permitting obviously.

Just back. Managed to see the whole game in the end but wished I had missed the first 40 minutes! Much better 2nd half. We were totally in control until they scored their flukey goal. You couldn't blame Smith for that one - I think the ball bounced over our defender (Devera?) who should have cut it out. Brilliant goal and brilliant attempts at goal from Easyjet and Risser, totally out of context with the game. One question: were our players wearing trainers? If not, get some fucking studs in your boots lads!

The first half was complete dross with both sides playing shit. We looked much better in the 2nd half while Wimbledon remained absolute shit. We should have had a penalty a minute before Risser's screamer - that was a true beauty of a goal and the Town End are getting spilt rotten with the quality of goals at that end. Didn't really see that much of their goal so can't really comment.
Esajas put in a fantastic cameo perfomrance and must have played himself into the squad for Saturday. Deveta played well at the back and Risser did alright in midfield albeit a couple of J Smith like challenges that luckilly missed their players.
Coneel and Kerouche were shite and thier movement was not great. The worst player on the pitch today was Rirchie - lazy, greedy, bad passing and he needed to change his boots - preferably onto the right feet. I'd rest him for the Hudders game and give Esajas or Gabilondo a chance. Deveta also looked back to form, won a load of headers.
As for the penalties, three great penalties from us. Although i think Smith is shit you've got to give him credit for 3 very good saves from the penalties - they weren't easy saves to make but he made them.
Not the best of nights but onwards and upwards.

Thought the 1st half was poor, but we opened up 2nd half and had a good go at them (are we starting to fall into the same trap as last season, waiting until the 2nd half towards the town end to start playing). Great goal from Risser, but he needs to try and be more imaginative in his passes. Much better with 3 stands open.

Want to avoid Southend away next round for loads of reasons. Have been to Roots Hall and seen us lose twice in this competition before. Main thing is to get a home tie, hopefully get a 6000+ crowd as well.

Went up near the Wimbledon fans first half, and Ive rarely been so embaressed to be a Town fan. Nasty chants (not going to say about what), but not only that, out of time and shit lyrics. Complete fuckwittery. Left for the other end of the stand after 30 minutes. Apologies to any Wimbledon fans who heard it all and are reading this. Do enjoy a bit of aggressive football banter, but what a handful of fans were chanting was just scummy.

Can't add much more than has already been said.

First half was low quality but quite even. Their keeper made a fantastic save from a Connell (?) header. Smith had nothing more than a couple of routine saves/claims.

Second half we weren't in top gear but were a lot lot better. Wimbledon offered no attacking threat whatsoever until their goal. Risser's piledriver was worth the £10, he had a steady game tonight so well done him. Esyjet had an equally good shot, and was unlucky to see it hit the woodwork from long range. He was never man of the match though and he frustrates me! He loves running at defenders which can be good, or bad when Caddis makes his 160th run down the wing and is ignored yet again :)

I don't think the Dons can claim they deserved to go through.

The true cost of the night were in potential injuries. Mageria will be out for a week or two, which is a shame for him and a pain for us for Saturday. Ferry and the improved Di Veta also either took knocks or maybe it was cramp.

Saw Brian McDermott in the car park before the game, guessing he was watching Ritchie, who had an appalling game in my opinion, and Esajas came on and changed the game, his pace and skill was troubling their backline and was a breath of fresh air. My man of the math was Risser, although he misplaced a few passes, he broke down the play very well and laid off some nice some passes.

You must have been watching a different game from me???  Great goal I will admit that but as in other games when I've seen him this season he went missing for long periods and really didn't do much.  Don't get me wrong I really want to like the bloke as his attitude and commitment to the club are fantastic but he really needs to turn these qualities into performances on the pitch.

He was off the pace, similar to the crewe game, almost a carbon copy performance in fact.
But fantastic goal nonetheless

Amazing how different fans opinions can be :) most seem very split on him tonight, some thought he was quality, and some think he was awful, most important thing though was that he put us ahead with that peach.

Decent Madras served in the sponsors suite, 1st half not the best...some half time soup and a tea to warm me up...2nd half much better and Risser screamer to get the game going!!!Very unlucky to concede tonight as i think that was there only chance bar a tame effort or 2....great penalty saves from Smithy, had total confidence in him after seeing us beat exeter on pens 2 years ago and also winning against charlton (altho bailey did blast it rather than a save)...Phil Smith, specialist penalty keeper  :hmmm: ah well...into the next round, shame we cant beat the pox over 2 legs in the areas or bt dws sheff utd in the final....oh well onwards and upwards!!!  :D

And not only those pathetic chants but also chanting 'your support is fucking shit' when there's nobody in the whole fucking stadium singing for either team is cringeworthy along with some of the other shite they were coming out with

Didn't go tonight, so can't comment on the chants.  However, there's been some rather pathetic behaviour from the same group (older clientile I may add not youngsters) for the last few home games.  We sit further towards the half way line and some of the comments directed to away supporters were mildly amusing to start with.  Now they're downright embarassing and some of these idiots need to get a grip.

Don't think anyone really stood out tonight but Rissers goal was something special and he did have a steady game so gets my motm vote. Seems like some of our fans have written him off and in their eyes he will always be shit. Smiths penalty saves were top class as were the three penalties we scored. Although Wimbledon weren't great they did try to play football on the ground without hoofing everything. Although the first half was hard work the second half and pens made it an enjoyable night.

couldn't go tonight, was glad to hear we went through whilst at work.  my take on risser is that i'd love him to come good because as (was it) batch said his commitment to the club is great but having seen hime a few times he looked a bit lost positionally and seems to be a bit of ball follower.  i've not had too many issues with his passing, he's a L2 player afterall.

he's not going to break into the starting 11 anytime soon but to have him in decent form and on the bench would be good given he sort of covers 2 positions and he can quite clearly strike a ball which is a bonus in my book.  will be interesting to see if he is one of the players we will no doubt try to move on in jan.

as for hearing about the chanting (whatever it was) i think it's a great shame, we all hate franchise and i was hoping some solidarity would be shown to the AFC fans, to say their support is shit is farcical given what they have been through and i wish them the best of luck.

looking forward to saturday, will be my last game of the season as i'm off back to france next week, let's hope we get a couple more games on the box over the next few months.

They brought something like 231 fans so quite good support considering its a Tues night JPT game.

One chant that isn't offensive but always annoys me is when the Town End sing "Are you Oxford in disguise?" to any team that wears yellow. It would be a fucking shit disguise if it was them. I propose that they sing it to every team thats NOT wearing yellow from now on to avoid any confusion

Well I went and my excitement consisted of Rissers goal, Easyjet having a great game and some good pens....and a few beers.

Apart from that....utter shite.

I thought the dons defended well and perhaps deserved to take us to pens. Thought they bought a decent number of fans with them, fair play to them.

Went for a Bovril on 60 minutes and was told that the kiosk closes just after half time???!!!!!!!  WTF....I don't expect a huge array of pies but I expect an opprtunity for a Bovril, coffee or kitkat....letter to the club t follow...

Is it old trafford for the final of this years jpt?

First half was a dog shit display from both sides. Improved in the 2nd half - Ferry quietly went about his business, personally I thought Risser did quite well, he had a quiet period but he was putting in neat tackles and short, simple passes. Cracking goal and a beaut of a penalty too.
Connell had a bit of a stinker, nobody was spectacularly shit, nor amazingly good. Devera deserves a mention, as does Esajas - who had his Ritchie boots on. Should have plenty in the tank to beat this lot next weekend.

Going to get slated for this but don't get the Esajas love in. I thought, bar the one good shot (in 7), he was awful and generally is, certainly when he plays on the right. Ridiculous obsession with shooting, never plays the simple ball, always cuts in. don't remember him once beating his man and getting the ball in, or offering anything out wide as an actual winger. There was one situation where Connell ran round him, he cut in with the full back and all he had to do was slip Connell in round the side but he instead just tried to wander in to a crowd of defenders before shooting from 782 yards again.

No slating from me, I was frustrated he didn't spot Caddis on numerous occasions when he bust a bollock to get down the wing.

BUT...he hasn't played too much and will obviously be desperate to impress. He needs to not let that cloud his decision making, but I don't think he's without talent or fitness.

Mind you, some of that could be levelled at Ritchie at times too.

We could start a whole thread for chants that make no sense and are embarassing. I'm all for a bit of pisstaking and aggressive chanting but some of the scummy crap they came out with was crossing the line and on top of that, the other chants just made no sense to the point that you'd cringe every time they opened their mouths

good result, it's nice to have a good run in any cup for once.

On one hand i would obviously love us to win this, but on the other hand i am not particularly interested in visiting that over-priced concrete shithole, in the middle
of a industrial estate, It's far too soon since my last visit.

Off subject but is anyone on here applying for this Saturday's Soccer AM?

That's my concern, depending on the opponent the place could be half empty with even worse atmosphere than last time, if thats possible.  The again maybe there wouldnt be as many daytrippers to sit on their hands in total silence.

Wembley is shit and the JPT final should definately be at Villa Park or somewhere similar.

We might only take 15000 next time, but the atmosphere will be better. Its all about getting tickets in that lower tier.

The day up to kick off before the play off final at Wembley was fantastic.

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Wimbledon - Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Batch on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 19:34:43
Would we still think Wembley was shit had we won? I think so, its a soulless over priced money making machine first, a football stadium second.

One thing they need to do is sort out some sort of ticketing segregation. It sounds gay but I want to stand and sing and want similar people with me. On the other I don't want to be blocking some small kids view or offend them with my football tourettes.

-----
Spence, do you think that excitement was because it was a playoff final, because it was new Wembley or both? For me it was both, but now I've been to Wembley I wouldn't care if we played the next playoff final at OT or Villa Park. I'd imagine not everyone feels the same.

I hate Wembley. I've never experienced a decent atmoshpere there for any sporting event. The prices are ridiculous also, for the tickets themselves and then for anything from the kiosks. I've decided since i went to the NFL the other week that I really don't want to ever go back there for anything.

I also don't see the need for a national stadium anyway.

Its a shame about the prices. But Wembley is still the best place for a final.

The main thing is winning.

In relation to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the lower league Play-Off Finals, I believe that they should be played at other venues. There's plenty of adequate stadia in England. All Wembley does for the lower leaguers is house the day trippers, not the exiles but the people who see our final as a spiffing day out.

It was just before my days as an active Swindon fan but I love going a place at Selhurst Park (I know it was a replay, but still) and winning a Final.

Surely I expect very little. Get the ball, Pass the ball, cross the ball? Don't try and shoot for 40 yards as it will not go in (often).

Yes you are. From a Div 4 player, whose not played in weeks, wants to impress so is selfish, who has watched Ritchie do the same thing for the last few weeks and after ignoring the overlaping fullback cuts inside and hits the bar.

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Wimbledon - Official Matchday Thread

cuts inside and hits the bar.

Once. Most other times he just wasted the ball. The fact he was trying to impress etc means nothing to me. It doesn't change the fact he, in my eyes, had a poor game and didn't use the ball well for someone playing right wing. It might be the reason why he done what he done, but still don't think he played well.

also ritchie is undoubtedly told to cut in and shoot often because thestrikers canfollow up on any parried efforts or anything that cannons off of the woodwork.  the czech republic were amazing during the nedved days because of this, anything within 45 yards was a chance

Isn't the fact that players are cutting inside rather than going outside and crossing due to the fact that they are being played on the opposite wing to which they would naturally play? This is perhaps the way Di Canio wants the team to play?

As well as hitting the bar he also made the keeper parry one out too. In fact I think he pretty much hit the target everytime. Would have liked him to have used Caddy a bit more too but at the same time he did look like he might score. We can't have it all. Fuck me he's twice the footballer Alan O'Brian is and he was first choice at stages last year.
