Title: Cup Time.

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompetitions/TheFACup/NewsAndFeatures/2011/fa-cup-4q-draw

Winners of these matches go into the first round proper.........Weston Super Mare away would be interesting, good win beating Havant last round,Gateshead away would be a trek ..........who do you fancy people?

Oxford City away could be fun. WSM is a shithole but easy to get to and plenty of drinking - a reasonable welcoming committe I would suspect.
I'll take anyone at home other than the Scummers - best if that one were away - don't crap on your own doorstep and all that

Would imagine we'd have a decent chance of a TV game if we got a non-league team away.

Title: Re: Cup Time.

I would suggest that, unless there are plenty of obvious games, we'll be on TV regardless as ITV & ESPN will want to jump on the Di Canio bandwagon.

I really hope bath city get throuhg and we have them away. I want a game i can walk to

yeah, a draw against shef wed would surely put us in the tv frame, likewise any sort of non-league

Used to go to watch the mighty heed! most home games when I was a student in Newcastle in the 90's, the main stand there is the steepest rake I have ever known in a ground that combined with a stinking hangover made it all a little hairy!

Still got a scarf at home somewhere!

Weston Super Mare away would be interesting

apart from being a headline writers dream, it's where my mum lives so i'd love this draw! Plus it's only an hour away from swindon on a good run so we'd take loads of supporters!

Some interesting results today:

Potential local ties:

Oxford City beat Weston 3-2, Newport won 4-3, Basingstoke won 2-1 (against Staines which was my pick for tomorrows draw WEST SIDE so...SHIT)...anyone else interested results at http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/Results

Looking out for 43 tomorrow (our number) so maybe a weekend away in Bournemouth would suit!

In terms of possible local games, a couple of friends are Gloucester City season ticket holders who went to Chelmsford today.  They were 1-0 at 90 mins only to see a Chelmsford equaliser at the death.  Replay on Tuesday.

Fear not I get wretched luck in the cup draws. To think that I lived in Plymouth for 3 years and there wasn't one Swindon visit to Home Park.

I've also lost the Carlisle and Hartlepool fixtures this season... Give me this one :)

Anyone in the South if drawn away, I can think of nothing worse than a long away trip to some bleak Northern shit hole on a wet and windy day with less than 300 Town fans there and losing to some crap BSPN side.

Home draw please, against anyone from our division or lower.

Halifax v Charlton will almost certainly be on telly.

Don't think our tie will be on telly. Surely it'll be all non-league v league matches?

There'll probably be 3 games on TV. Usually two on ITV and one on ESPN.

Good draw....gives us every chance of  avoiding being knocked out by a non league team.  Thought the same last season mind, when we drew Plymuff.  :(

I seem to remember a cup game against the dour Norverners, back in the early noughties, being settled by an Andy Gurney goal....

I think it depends on what they agreed on when he signed! He wasn't allowed to play against exeter in the JPT so i'd say there's no chance of him playing for us!

Title: Re: Cup Time.
Post by: Costanza on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 14:04:58
I think we can all accept losing to a Danny Ward strike.

Lee Clark vs Paolo Di Canio... Jordan Rhodes being flavour of the month.

There's an outside chance of telly.

But in 2002 our average crowd was just over 5,000 so it wasn't a bad effort. £15 adults would be sensible and i could see us getting 7,000ish . Anything £20+ would see a very low crowd i reckon.

Title: Re: Cup Time.

What a shit draw.

I just don't see this as a shit draw at all, not when you think of some of the real shit, that knocks around in the 1st round of the cup....imagine Luton away, or any of a host of norvern teams away....say Scunny or HPool or Carlisle.  Or some park non league outfit like East Thurrock United.

Even worse, a side from Div 4, like Bradford City again.

Not a bad draw at all.....OK we've played them loads recently, but they are up there as a "name" team atm, and so we've nothing to lose.

Whilst you should go into every game thinking you can win, the fact that the last 30+ league one teams to play them haven't managed to beat them might suggest that it will be tough.

For me, in the first two rounds you want home ties against teams you would expect to beat.

We've had enough of these lately....I'm thinking Boston, Barnet and Notts County that should tell you, we're not very good at dealing with these sort of games.  We tend to be better going in with nothing to lose, remember how we took out higher league Carlisle in 06....probably the last time we beat such a team.

There must be a way of working this out, but I can't believe there can be many other clubs with such a lousy Cup (capital 'C' denoting the FA variety) pedigree as us in the 20 odd years I've been a fan.  Think of all the non-League sides that have gone past us and all those higher league clubs we haven't beaten.  Where are the famous victories we can point to?  Has to change at some point.

Title: Re: Cup Time.
Post by: DV on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 16:41:46
I *think* Plymouth have a very poor cup record. Think they went years without winning a cup tie.

Anyway, what colour is Huddersfield away kit? Red per chance?

So we'll be at home playing in white and they'll be the away team playing in red.

Stupid.

Its as bad as Franchise in red and us in black at the CG on League Cup in which we wore white  anniversary day

...Or the whole white at wembley bollocks.

At the end up of the day - this club has history and tradition and I don't like the thought of us whoring that out for a few extra quid

You could have quoted Woking, Forest Green & Morecambe over the same period.

All cup games at home that we have won.

Just think that we would be more likely to beat Basingstoke than Huddersfield.

Certainly since 95/96, when we got to the 5th round on the back of a nice run of home ties, we've been terrible in the Cup.

At the start of the 00's, there was a nice historic stat, on the all time % of FA Cup games won, we were in the top ten. Having had a very decent history for a lower league side going back to the days of the Southern League. I  was brought up on big sides being a bit fearful of a trip to the CG, and being happy with a replay.

Posh, although we got past Morecambe and Forest Green, we rode our luck in both of those. I'd just rather not play any half decent Conference/ Conference N or S....I've had enough losing to non league sides to last me for another 10 or so years.

Although they should beat us I don't see them coming to us being over confident as its a tricky game for them too. Its not a bad draw for us really as would hate to go out to a non league side which would set us back confidence wise.

Great! That's my last hope of seeing the game gone (it's my daughter's birthday on the 12th)

Lets face it, our game was never going to be high profile enough to get on TV.

if we were away at a non league side with a chance of being dumped out then they may well have put us on but not playing Uddersfield.

The games on TV are pretty predictable, 2 non league sides at home against league opposition and Morecambe flying high in the 4th division and on an excellent run of form at home to Sheff Weds flying high in the 3rd Division who will take a massive following to Morecambe and make it a good atmosphere there for the TV.

Sounds reasonable to me. Its round 1 but decent if uninspiring opposition.

Agree, not too bad, only £10 for me.

Expecting a crowd of around 7,200 for this game, maybe less...many people may take the opportunity to head 'early' Xmas shopping...anything more would be great!

As opposed to Swindon flying high in the 2nd and Hudds flying high in the 1st :hmmm:....Wednesday will have a good following granted but not massive.
