Title: Transfer Deadline Day
Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, 07:20:33
So, at 11pm GMT the transfer window slams shut (it never just closes).

As we have a squad of around 30 players, some are going to have to leave, whether they have already fallen out with the manager or not.

Feel free to post your transfer deadline day rumours and comments in here.

I'm no  :sherlock: but I think there could be some movement from Clarke, Timlin and possibly the other players that have been forgotten (Amankwaah etc)

Saw a horrible rumour that Rotherham are signing Revell as well, so that's fucked up Saturday as well.

Clarke will be gone, i cant see any other solution. I cant see a lot of movement in and out of the CG today.

If Clarke goes today will that be the shortest time a player has ever been contracted to Swindon, or any club? What is it 2 weeks?

I can't see many teams wanting to take any of our discards, or indeed them wanting to leave.

11.05am: A central midfielder is also being targeted by the County Ground side as well as a striker, depending on what happens with Leon Clarke. I'm pretty sure you all know his story by now.

11.03am: My esteemed sources are telling me that Town are hoping to push through a loan deal for Arsenal defender Daniel Boateng before the deadline, otherwise they will have to wait until the loan window opens

I think John Sutton's spell a Town was less than that but it was a short term contract. This is a two year deal.

Elsewhere, David Unsworth's Villa career was famously brief.

Clive Allen famously stayed at Arsenal for a matter of a few weeks too without even playing a game for them, not a 1st team game anyway.

I think Clarke could still have a major part to play this season if we can sort out last nights spat. I think he's the first choice forward.

13.54pm: Not much action at the County Ground as yet, but the Advertiser understands Newport County have asked about taking Jordan Pavett on loan.

That could be a good move for him, not getting a sniff of the first team here and Newport are a decent  enough outfit.

I do want PDC to be a success cos i want a winning Swindon Town, but with last nights circus, and it looks like ANOTHER striker coming, what is he playing at ?  Did he get his coaching badges on Championship Manager ?
Surely you look to bring in a striker you rate and go with him.  Not buy one, change your mind,  buy another, change your mind, buy another.  What must connell be thinking ?  PDC comes and says he wants him at his club.  He signs and is right up for it and gets no chances and when he does he gets taken off.  Its like he cant sign the 2 strikers with the qualities he wants so we end up with 10 who together do possess those qualities.  Am loosing faith fast in old nero !

38 caps for Spain, UEFA Cup and 2x La Liga winner signing for Brighton at the age of 30.

I know they're doing rather well at the moment, but I'm still not accepting Brighton as a big club. The fact that it seems to have actually happened is fairly baffling.

For all the talk about getting rid of our scouting network, lower league types like Wilson and Sturrock seem to manage a decent living by continually signing the same 15 players they trust over a ten year career. You get the impression they are signing for character and attitude and what they'll bring to the dressing room as much as ability*.

In a way, it's the complete opposite to PdC, who signs people without even knowing how good they are, let alone what they are like as people.

(*However, Wilson did sign Prutton, which totally undermines this argument).

anyone seen burnley getting two strikers in? How about having that Austin fella back on loan? With the way he's banging them in, i'm suprised they've gone for two new front men.

Amankawaah better than caddis? I fucking give up with our support.

If we are losing, some fans will back any player that is not in the team.

That seems to be the case.  Not sure if it is just to moan, stupidity or desperation.

Pahaha he was proper smug about 'predicting' something before Gary Rose released it in the press.

You seen him talking about Rory Fallon now?

He's like a child.

He flipped saying someone had grassed him up to a player, then he said he cant say anything, then he posts a rumour.

Attention seeking at its best..

I liked the fantastic claim that he told us all first that Timlin would go to Southend and Amankwaah would leave and we might sign a player on deadline day.

Fuck me - thats fantastic insider knowledge, never saw any of that coming!

I swear I know who he is. He used to ball boy whilst I was there. He got in a ruck with Ian Herring once and after that we weren't allowed to go through the players entrance when going to games.

I think I've found a blow-by-blow reenactment of said event.

I don't know, he always used to wind the players up in the gym when playing football tennis. Ruddock told him to go fuck himself once because he was always pretending to go from behind and grapple him. Weird guy.

Talking of Ballboys (obscure I know) but for me, the highlight of the season so far has been the ballboy in front of the DRS who looks like Carlos Gamarra. Fantastic hair.
