He's a 6ft French-Argentine Striker

6 goals from 16 starts in the top division in Holland last season.

Obviously know nothing about him but if he's the same one mentioned in the adver article then the club (and PdC) clearly think very highly of him.

YouTube makes him look pretty special. Headers, rounding the keeper, free kicks, outside the box... He almost looks too good for little old us, so lets hope di Canio gets him signed up, because, like Dossevi, I'm putting my money on him as top scorer. :D

Edit: Although he is responsible for this Rocky Baptiste moment.

Has a good goalscoring record for De Graafschap who I assume are in the Dutch top division.

Lets wait and see if he actually signs but I'm going to stick my neck out and say that he looks like he would score a barrel load in League 2

someone has done a good selling job, and it gets him in the english shop window if he does the business I suppose.

I can only presume we're aiming to have him as well as the Brazilian. (Presuming someone hasn't got their wires crossed and they're one and the same.)

I hope that now the news is broken, he doesn't get signed by 'Udders.

And he's turned down talks with Lausanne.

The Eredivisie is a decent enough league, but DeGraafschap seem to be a bit of a yo-yo side, having spent more or less equal periods in the top two divisions in recent years.  For what it's worth, their ground holds less than ours (capacity 12,600) and I doubt their crowds are much bigger than ours, if at all.

So I'm sure Bargas is well aware that a move to us would not mean he would be paying in front of three men & a dog.  Decent move in to English football as well.  If we rise up the leagues, he can rise with us.  Or alternatively, he'll be in the shop window and could get another move in time.  This move could make sense.

I think Rose said in the Adver that another foreign striker (not the Brazilian) was due to sign. This would suggest either they're after both Bargas and the Brazilian player OR Bargas is now preferred to the Brazilian!

Just finished an article on Bargas on The Washbag with his career stats and videos, including a nasty miss against Vitesse from last season showing how bad his right foot is.

http://thewashbag.com/2011/07/07/factfile-hugo-bargas/

As for his preferred foot being his right in FM, I'll speak to our Dutch researchers and get that changed right away...

Title: Re: Mystery striker is "the big one"

If we get him then I would assume they are still looking for one more. As we are lacking the big target man type of forward at the moment, With some of the CB in League 2 the option of a big strong unit up top would still be handy

Title: Re: Mystery striker is "the big one"
Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, July 7, 2011, 09:10:10
i personally don't think we're going to sign a big target man. i think the type of football we will play wont require a target man to lump it too

I agree that the type of football we might play might not require a Target man, but always handy to have a plan B. What with how we were bullied by clubs last season I would like to see that there is the option from the bench if needed

32 appearances (16 starts) in 2010/11 in the Eredivise.

As for injury proneness I don't think that is actually used anymore by the FM code as we input real injury histories nowdays.

If we do sign this bloke, it’ll take the record for the best named club we’ve signed players from, Vereniging Betaald Voetbal De Graafschap Doetinchem.

Replacing Bart Griemink who came to the UK from Woonwagenkamp Emmen (Emmen Trailer Park) but who should have played for his home town team, Top Oss.

There’s hours...OK, minutes...of fun to be had looking at Dutch football info, eg the top amateur league is called the Hoofdklasse, the nickname for Almere City is the Sheepheads, and so on. Go Ahead Eagles Deventer always raises a smile too. Not as much as Go Ahead Sheep Poxford would, of course.

Enjoying reading the Washbag today, The players being away is great but it makes it all easier for us to put names to faces once they get back and get an idea of what we're in for. Twitter seems to be the best place for official news right now.

Glad you're enjoying the site. Other outlets (i.e. Adver) don't bother with really going into detail that you want, so that's why I'm here.

Looks decent. Very very left footed though. Why hasn't anyone put him Football Manager stats up? Everyone know this is what counts when you sign a player*.

* Except Pericard & Dossevi

He's a keeper in the Dutch league...therefore he's shit.  The Dutch league goals on Eurosport are always good for a laugh.

Yes, there always seems a far amount of goalie clowning on Eurogoals, very entertaining.

Just watched the full Bargas youtube clip on The Washbag, he reminds me so much of Simon Cox, now thats gotta be good thing.

There was a one on one where he seemed so composed.

Seemed as though he was just walking it in, almost slow motion.

I've watched Ajax a few times - saw de Graffschap a couple of seasons ago but Hugo wasn't playing.  The standard of the Eredivisie is variable.  The top few (currently Ajax, PSV & Twente) are decent Premier League standard (about mid-table), the next bunch of teams are probably decent Championship standard and the poorer teams probably no better than League 1.
The Eerste divisie where Hugo scored most of his goals is probably about L2 standard I'd guess.  So no surprise that the defending isn't great.  I agree he looks good on the vids and would hopefully do well for us next season but I wouldn't get carried away that we're signing someone who's played at a much higher level.

Btw not all keepers in Dutch league are shit - I know its going back a few yrs but van der Sar was ex-Ajax and the current Ajax GK, Stekelenberg is certainly good Premier League standard.

The oracle that is Gary Rose said he might be staying in Rome tonight as Norcia is about 70 miles away or something. He's probably going to be a bit shagged out if he's just flown in from Argentina and the flight arrived late in the evening so that sounds feasible.

Thanks. What I should of wrote was can someone please put his FM numbers up and even if they have already because I'm too fucking lazy to look back through or even go that extra step and load the game up and look myself.

Very decent attributes especially for L2. Think he's freekicks should be higher because I've seen two of his goals on Youtube that were freekick, therefore he must have at least 15.

I also think Dutch keepers are a little bit shit.
Ed De Goey
Raimond Van Der Gouw
Jaap Stam
Tim Krul
Reggie Blinker

All shit in goal.
