Have one of you been at his Wiki page or does it seriously say

'Alsop was sacked by Oxford in October 2004 after an incident involving a banana, half a bottle of spiced rum and a naive youth team player,'

He's a bit of legend at Cheltenham Town and spoke about this in the local press recently when he admitted there was an incident involving a trainee and a banana but claimed that the reports were wrong and all that happened was that it (the banana) was rubbed in the lad's face.

You wouldn't sack a player for rubbing a banana is someones face.
Especially a forward who had a decent scoring record.
It went up the lads arse for sure

How many of these do we think we'll be seeing on 20th August?

I know it's been awhile since we played them but surely having a load of inflatable bananas at the CG is a bit pointless given the incident was 6 or 7 years ago...

The passing of time doesn't stop us singing about Joey Beauchamp, the delights of the Manor ground nor does it stop Poxford still banging on about the last time we played them

1-0 wasn't it?

It'd look strange to see you all holding yellow things. It doesn't wind us up either.

No, it won't be 'strange' to you because undoubtedly you're used to it.

Do we not think that mocking a rival for an incident that happenend close to 5 years ago is a teeny tiny bit past its sell-by-date?

No.

I disagree. Oh how I chuckled back in 2004... but now? Haven't we got anything better to do?

Taking it beyond the expected levels is what really winds others up.

Besides its actually relatively witty banter (great songs) when you consider the best the Pox can come up with is 'we hate Swindon and we hate Swindon'.

Have we got anything better to do? You tell me?

It's not at all witty! As amusing as it was at the time, I just think it's outdated... If it winds them up then great, job done and that's me proved wrong.

The songs from that period 6+ years ago are 10 times better and wittier than what weve got now.

Its sad when your own fans dont want to take the piss out of your rivals.

What are the timelimits? Are we not supposed to take the piss out of the Pox losing to Tonbridge Angels?

I miss 'build a bonfire'. Died out last season, though we did have fuck all to sing about.

That's different. Beauchamp is a legend at Oxford and has history with Swindon. He's a permanent target for chants and rightly so

They won't care about Alsop... I say focus on the classics.

It's more about entertaining ourselves than winding them up, and at least it's original.

But as many members of the then poxford youth squad were involved, are they now playing in the first team or god forbid maybe coaching the youth team themselves!

The point is that this is the culture at that club and those that follow that club obviously have no problem with the banana wielding role models they seem to have employed.

At the Pox youve got to sing songs they dont know, otherwise they will just copy them (singing their own words).

In the last few days I've noticed a barrage of Oxford supporters on the wind-up (as if they've got anything to be happy about).

In light of this I take it all back...

GIVE THEM FUCKING HELL.

I should imagine the day itself will be a throwback to the late 70's / early 80's.

What's the condom for - to keep his head dry if it rains?
