Title: Leafy Surrey.
Post by: leefer on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, 18:32:58
Will be my port of call for the next four days...the BMW PGA at Wentworth and £750,000 to the winner and £100,000 for tenth!

Anyway i will be following the Howla tee off 7.40 so leaving at 5.30 am,playing with major winner Micheal Campbell and Spain,s Ignacia Garrido,if Howell makes the cut he will do well after a month off.
When he has finished i will watch Mcilroy,Mcdowell,Clarke,Quiros,Westwood,Kaymer,Rose,Poulter,John Daly,Oustihouzen,Els,Casey,Fisher,Jimenez, and US Open winner Char Schwarzle.
If you dont like golf its a who,s who?
If you like to watch golf then its four days of bliss, and with the guinness and wine flowing should be just dandy :D

Shit!!!

That makes the £400 odd per year at Woodbridge Park (7 days) seem like a positive bargain. How much did he have to pay for a pint?

We had a free fourball at Wentworth a few years back.

It was just before the World Matchplay one year and they were putting up the hospitality tents around the 18th.

Not sure but i watched the Open Qualifying there a few years back and it is a suprisingly long course, for a handicapper anyway.

Record crowds there today on Seve Friday,Watched Howell both days and made the cut easy.Par round today including a treble bogey, which curtailed his challenge to the leaders.
Cracking day there today,Seve would have been proud of the turnout.

Good luck with that.

Donald today was incredible how he came from plus 5 for the day to level.
Howell is only 6 back after a battling day and a one over round which included two DB,s.
He is out in one of the last groups tomorow with Wiegle though i was hoping he would get paired with Mcilroy who is on the same score.
My feeling is that a player could come from the pack and post a score, either way i am looking forward to the last day.

what do you make of the course changes leefer?
are you with poulter and casey in their critism of it?
i think they should just get on with it.it's the same course for all of them after all.

Course changes are ok and good shots are rewarded, bad and its a bogey minimum.

I agree with them about the last hole and would have maybe made 17 the real toughy(its relativly easy with a good tee shot) and kept 18 as it was because the it makes it exiting for the crowd on 18.
Only the real long hitters can reach which is good for the course but not so exiting for the crowd on 18.
The difference i have seen is the lack of back spin on the balls now the ball has been modified, only real quality wedge shots result in back spin and very few get spin with a 1-9 iron now.

Don't like some of the changes made to the greens, 8th and 9th spring to mind.

I was there Thursday, shit weather. Highlights included:
Monty's tee shot on the 11th flying 6 inches in front of my face.
Getting a "cheers buddy" from Rose after finding his ball following a wayward tee shot on the 4th.

Great shout, looking very good, although it looks like going to a play-off. English golf is flying.

had a terrible weekend betting wise.so many of my selections went so close.

The West Course is a joke for the pros, takes the fun out of it for players and spectators when you cant go low. To have 2 par 5s to finish and give the players absolutely no incentive to take either on is ridiculous.

His putt on the 18th in regulation play was abysmal and he deserved to lose for not having the balls to try and hole a 10 footer to win and preferring to just cosy it up there!

he tried to hole it.he read it wrong like nearly every other bugger before him.you could see from his reaction how fucked off he was with it.
i thought he'd try to get on in 2 once it came to the play off.

Tend to agree though it makes it more fair for the shorter hitters, lets face it David Horsey had the balls to go for it and he is hardly long and he eagled....the players need to have bottle also.
Most of them could have reached both holes in two with a good tee shot,Howell hit the 17th in two the days i went.
Fact is in previous years the long hitters were going around in par till 17/18 then going eagle/eagle....tough course it is but on the whole more fair for all the players now.
The 18th is the only hole that needs changing because the grandstand is huge and players having a go would make it more exiting for them.
Westwood never really played 17/18 well on all four days and it probably cost him the win.
