Title: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: MichaelPook on Friday, May 13, 2011, 12:02:34 thought I would start a thread on this one.
Any news whatsoever on this? Where are we going to tour this year? Anyone heard anything? Id quite like to see us head up to Scotland or Ireland for pre-season - would be a nice road trip for the fans. Thoughts, ideas and comments please! Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: tans on Friday, May 13, 2011, 12:06:26 We will play supermarine, fgr and ciren guaranteed, we always do
Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Berniman on Friday, May 13, 2011, 12:42:44 I would think that the likes of Burnley at home may be in there, we tend to try to tie these things in with transfers.
Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: sonicyouth on Friday, May 13, 2011, 12:59:26 I'm arranging a pre-season trip to Norway.
We will start with a low-key warm up fixture against Fet IL followed by a slightly more competitive match against either Strømmen IF or Lørenskog IF and finally the big game against Lillestrøm SK! Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, May 13, 2011, 13:53:44 I would think that the likes of Burnley at home may be in there, we tend to try to tie these things in with transfers. Nice. We will hopefully get to give that horrible little kunt some abuse. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: london_red on Friday, May 13, 2011, 13:56:02 I would think that the likes of Burnley at home may be in there, we tend to try to tie these things in with transfers. So we'll probably have Reading as well then. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Berniman on Friday, May 13, 2011, 16:30:14 Yeah, not sure they would think that would be the best of ideas for a pre-season friendly.
Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: oakleigh2010 on Sunday, May 29, 2011, 13:55:11 We played Reading in a home friendly in 2006. They ran as usual. I fancy Reading away in FACup 3rd Round.
I suspect we'll play Alfreton away in a friendly. It is getting late to announce them. What happened to the 'not making the same mistake as last year by starting to prepare too late in the summer'? Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: MichaelPook on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 12:41:44 Still no news on pre-season yet
Even Ebbsfleet have sorted theirs out and they finished a week after we did Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 12:50:36 Yeah we had this little thing happening. You know we were a bit busy appointing a manager
Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Trashbat? on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 12:50:41 My Mum said yesterday she heard on Radio Swindon they are off to Italy for pre season.
But she is pretty deaf and gets things mixed up in her old age, so they are probably going nowhere and it was just a comment about di Canio being from Italy Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: The Frog on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 13:03:55 My Mum said yesterday she heard on Radio Swindon they are off to Italy for pre season. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 20:14:44 I went to the Exeter 0-1 Swindon one in 2007 where Pook scored. Too hot for football that day.
Pre-Season games are dull and any further interest is not helped by the fact the bigger clubs now tour overseas. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 20:17:16 I enjoy them.

Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: otanswell on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 20:24:50 I will not be going to any friendlies this year, went to the forest one last year and came out saying i think we would go uo and that dossevi was immense, well we all know what happened there!!
Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 20:25:14 Just enjoy watching football. I am that sad it's not unusual for me to take a walk over to buckhurst and watch the sunday league games. Sunday League is competitive... Nothing wrong with that. There's something about friendlies that don't feel right, probably because the result doesn't matter. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Batch on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 20:58:20 I love friendlies at small grounds myself. They are no gauge of anything football performance related. But there is something about being up close to the pitch with a pint listening to the banter on the pitch (and joining in).
Not convinced about friendlies at the County Ground these days. Nothing exciting in playing a Championship team in pre-season. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: ronnie21 on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 21:06:41 I heard that on saturday, think it was just rumour though from BBC Wilts I thought it came out in an interview with Jeremy W. He said he "understood" PC would like to take the team to Italy for a short tour - I bet he would!!Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: BANGKOK RED on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 21:07:28 Pre-season friendlies are great.
Went to a local one once and got battered with a mate of mine on warm cider. Took the piss out of Luc Nijholt throughout the game because he was sweating ungodly amounts of sweat. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 22:01:39 when i ran a sunday league side i made sure that was our home pitch.1 min walk from my old house.probably the best council pitches too When I used to play, we trained on Buckhurst and everyone lived fairly near there, but our "home" pitch was Lydiard Park. Randomly. Title: Re: Pre Season 2011-12 Season Post by: Huwwy on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 22:27:30 Anyone else go on the pre season Holland tour under Hoddle? Cant recall which year but 10 of us went over in a mini bus for it and had a cracking time. Our only mistake was going to Amsterdam for 3 days first after which the whole trip is a bit hazy. We were in some sort of tournament somewhere, Utrecht maybe?, and the entire event seemed to take place in a council sports field. The beer tent was quality though so we spent the time getting wasted, lying around in the sun and watching Town play other Dutch teams. I remember Hoddle seeing our Town shirts and coming over for a chat but he left pretty rapidly when he realised what a state we were in. John Gorman was much more fun though and invited us back to the team hotel although for some reason he also forgot to tell us where it was! Happy days! :D

I still use the Heineken apron I 'acquired' from the said beer tent. Town won the tournament, had top scorer and Fitz, I think, won best player. I remember one Town fan trying to nick a sponsor's flag from netting behind the goals and being gently persuaded to put it back, and the mass footy matches played on the spare pitch between tournament games. There seemed to be loads of Town fans there, and the locals were ace.
