This would be superb for the fans and a real boost in season ticket sales and match day attendance but sadly, it ain't gonna happen.

Although I live in hope.

This reminds me of when a load of bets were put on John Ward a while back. After we'd sacked Malpas I think? As we all know now it meant absolutely fuck all.

Get a grip...yeah we have moved on to lge2....best manager(on field )England had for years.

How has it moved on,the man was light years ahead as a player and coach, would be up there Monday renewing if he was to get the job along with many more.
The chances are it isn't going to happen so you will be happy but would suggest you are in the minority.

That just sounds like some meaningless cliche.

Moved on how exactly? And how would it mean he isn't up to the job? The man has had great success and did a pretty bloody good job at international level. A huge name, a silly amount of contacts and instant respect from fans and players alike.

But we don't want him. Yeah, right!

Hoddle's passion now seems to be developing young English players who have been rejected in their teens (before theyve had a real chance). I agree 100% with the way he views English player development, its crap, it places too much emphasis on teenagers, and not enough on players in their early 20s who are physically ready. He could do that sort of job for us, as a technical director, signing and coaching players, with someone like Trollope or Ling as manager.

Weve got to watch Hoddle a bit though. He is financially involved in his Spanish academy, and there could be a conflict of interest if he started signing up half of his academy. I do think he is a bit greedy at times, and he would put himself a long way before the club.

But overrall any Hoddle involvement would raise the profile of the club massively.

Hasn't his Spanish academy been moved back to the UK now though, hence the reason Hoddle was at the County Ground recently?

I can't see it happening sadly as much as I want it to. I hope we do tie-in with his academy though, we've had some good players in recent years who have been rejected by Premiership clubs before their careers have taken off.

In fairness, Hoddle is still very much within the game and the fact that he looks after young Prem/Championship rejects could only benefit a lower league club like Swindon.

Luckily, I didn't miss out on seeing Glenn Hoddle's Swindon Town side and the football on show was brilliant and even at my young age, I could appreciate it at the time. Plus he got us Shaun Taylor.

This is just a bit of a non-story is all.

He said that the manager will be one of the 22 and that none of them were from Hoddle. He didn't say "if hoddle rang me up tomorrow I'd tell him to fuck off because he missed the application deadline". Although he also didn't say "if hoddle rang me up tomorrow I'd appoint him on the spot."

Do we know what his favourite cheese is yet?

If you'd heard the radio interview a couple of weeks ago you'd know that Hoddle himself rubbished the rumours. He made it quite clear he has no interest in becoming manager of Swindon Town or any other Englsih club at the moment.

1. A selection of  Norwegian suggestions from Sonic and Norge.
2. DRS
3. DV
4. NWA
5. Bobby Gould
6. Jonathan Gould
7. Team Gould
8-22. Generic dour Scotsman

That would be my concern.  Hoddle has always thought about no.1.

No harm in looking at his academy but no player there owes us anything and we certainly don't owe Hoddle anything.  There's 91 other clubs in the football league, god knows how many non league clubs and foreign clubs.  Nothing in this but hot air.

But it's hardly a stable appointment, the reason I wouldn't want him as manager. His political stance comes into that as that would be part of the instability. He is consistently controversial and politics would have something to do with it.

It's never "just football" though is it? There's countless examples of football being dragged into political and religious business.

Paolo Di Canio would be an exciting appointment and would generate some media, possibly attract some decentish players. We'll also get West Ham fans lingering around the place and might even get a televised game from Sky.

However, is it the right option though!?! I'm dubious.

I also the rumour is rubbish.

I don't want to see that associated with our club - not exactly the smartest bit of "Swindon experience" marketing is it?

The point was not so much comparing the "offences", more that just because he did it abroad doesn't make it any better. But BR leapt in to defend the reputation of Far East ex-pats by pointing out he was at it in the UK too. For the record, I think Glitter would be a shit manager anyway, if we're going 70s popsters, has to be Sheena

But BR leapt in to defend the reputation of Far East ex-pats

I'm not sure that's even possible.

Hmm.  Sheena didnt chart until 1980.  Sorry to be a pedant but you would be.

It's a fair point. On both counts. I'll don the spangly jumpsuit of shame

Even without a new manager in place we are equal 2nd faves to go up, yes it is very early for betting!

Crawley 5/1
Rovers 8/1
Swindon 8/1
Plymouth 10/1
Northampton 12/1
Rotherham 12/1

Northampton 12/1? Didn't they just avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth?

Yeah rather low odds but then I feel thats based upon GJ's record in the lower divisions.

Cant we get away from ex players?
Either people want to re-sign ex players we let go because they were not good enough, or re-sign them as their pension is due
What is the facination of ex players coming back as manager..especially ones with no experience

No thank you.

Whereas some might accommodate a fascist, next to none will take a Scummer.

We should find a fascist Scummer, just to piss everyone off. How far right is Timmy Mallett?

Might as well just get Sinisa Mihajlovic in, as DoF for di Canio
