We will take the lead either at half time or by the 70 minute mark.  Hartlepool will then equalise late on and the game will end up 1-1.

People will then contact Radio Wilts (like they did against Rochdale and Dag + Red) saying that we should have won the game (even though in both games the draw was the fair result).

People will then complain about Hart and his nagative tactics, which will then lead to people questioning Fitton.

Hopefully we will win, but cant see it making a difference as we are still shit and will get relegated.

Hartlepool win. I think up until now the players have still been trying hard, but Exeter may have been a turning point. Weve been competing and having close games up until now, this could be the start of things really falling apart.

I think Exeter could be the tipping point from the fans too. It could get ugly today if things go wrong. Wadsworth was in the press this week denying that now they've reached 50 points so they're safe but can't reach the play-offs, that they've given up bothering. Which usually means they have. So with a half-hearted Hartlepool side playing against a gutless Town side, this could be a real classic.

Hartlepool didn't look at all threatening so Smithy decided to make it interesting & threw the ball straight to one of their players after making a decent catch from a corner and we find ourselves 1-0 down to a team that hardly seem like they can be arsed.

As I sit in the DRS it's hard to say how many are in here, but the rest of the ground is pretty empty so I'd say the actual crowd is probably about 6k

As for the game itself - arrived to see Lucas stretchered off. Thought we were pretty pap up to the sending off. Benyon didn't impress and seems to have no left foot.

After the sending off we had a bit of a go, though I was screaming at Hart to get another attacker on sooner. We looked like we have done most of the season. Huffed and puffed but unlikely to blow over a house of cards. Hard to get angry when they are putting in the effort. They are just too shit.

I always recall the documentary on the Town in 1993 and the late Kevin Morris and Chalkie White discussing injuries. Chalkie stated that when the team is doing well and you're in the team you'll play through injury to keep yourself in the team but when a player is out the team they will be in the phyiso's room with the slightest niggle to justify their exclusion! Get him in now and play the players who will be here next year, fuck putting the out of contract guys in the shop window, sod the desperate loanees (Unless they're going to sign in summer). Give Will Evans, Billy Bodin and the like a go, because we sure as hell won't find out if they're good enough without playing them.

I agree with most of that, I don't agree he's better overall because whilst he was flawless today in my opinion he has his Jerel Ifil moments thoughout a season. Cuthbert went a whole season last year and was superb throughout. So we'll have to disagree.

I was in the sponsor's lounge today and went on the tour.  In the dressing room, each player had a list of "Stop doing", "Keep doing" and "Start Doing" on their cubicles.  The only one I had a chance to read properly was Scott Cuthbert's and it was all about improving his lack of confidence, not being so hard on himself etc.  They had a self appraisal list and he ranked himself 3 out of 10 for confidence.  This might well explain why a few dodgy games have affected him more than they ought to given his ability.

The top "Start Doing" on Pericard's was "Act more like a senior pro".  Hmmmm......

Sheehan is only on a one year deal anyway - what the fuck has happened to Rose and Ferry not getting even a regular bench warming job at the moment.

Even with a team of complete and utter shite where competition to stand out as shit is really tough, Rose still stands out as fucking shit. How the fuck he ever made it as a professional footballer is beyond me. Ferry seems to have a touch of the Sheehan's about him, sign a contract and then put on a bit of timber and be hopelessly out of condition. this also says a lot about our management and fitness consultant.

I get the impression he just dicks about and finds a comfort zone all too easily. To be fair to the fitness consultant, you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink. May be that the fitness bloke is telling him all the right things, but Ferry ain't doing it. The fitness bloke can't make him, and ultimately nor can the manager. We all know we're down, so Fitton and Co need to be extremely grateful that there's so many loyal supporters out there and need to take a long hard think about their next move.  Appoint Hart and I'll be the first one (along with many others no doubt) banging on their door demanding a refund.  IMO we need a fresh young manager who's played the game at the highest level who'll put the energy and excitement back into the club (and I don't mean Trollope).  We're sick of clueless past it managers who don't know how to mix it up. The players commanding good wages and doing fuck all every week need to be shown the door and replaced with players who give a shit. I'd keep Caddis, Ritchie, LJF, Cuthbert, possibly Douglas and now I'm struggling, which says it all really.

I think we as supporters have been remarkably tolerant of the shite and disappointment we've had to put up this season, but if next season is anywhere near a repeat of this one, it will be a different story.

Oh and get rid of the female physio as well, it's all gone wrong since she's been here (and I'm not being sexist, I'm female!)

smithy always seems to second guess himself when he's got the ball. "do i throw it there? no. at the other fullback...no no, that'd be mental there's a man marking him". the one time he didn't have 5 glances around he's made a hash of things.

for large periods we played 4-1-everyone else and lumped it forwards. then they went down to 10 men and we passed it about, got a good cross in and a wonderful header by ritchie. so then we resorted to lumping it again.

i have no idea what JP or prutton were doing, they were absolutely fucking awful.

and the strikers looked very much on the periphery of things, unless it was a high ball for Andrews to win and head to no one. They both looked like they'd been forced to play up front without actually having played there before.

Only 14 pages on this thread and we have not gone into meltdown!!!  Seems we have accepted our fate!!  Surprisingly I agree with just about everything written on here post-match, the good points and the bad points.  Mr NC is pure wank,  :gay:  he should have left Benyon on (providing he is fit) and shoved Prutton off.  When he eventually brought on that huge unit from Palace he seemed to play him on the left hand side, almost as a winger!!  I would have loved to have seen him just behind Grella and Andrew ploughing forward, he looks like he has a great engine.  One of the problems we have is the tippy-tapppy way out of defence, it gives the opposition so much time to get behind the ball when we eventually lump it forward.  Fitton must now accept our fate, thank Hart for coming in, ask Bodin to look after things until the end of the season and we find a new manager - unless we could persuade Martin O'Neill to come in now! :hmmm:

I did think that yesterday was an interest yardstick of how we might cope in League Two: Hartlepool seem to me the kind of side we'll come up against a lot, organised, tall, strong but lacking that little bit of attacking flair and quality throughout.

On the other hand, I doubt most of the starting 11 will be at the club this season so maybe it's not terribly relevant at all.

On reflection the most depressing thing from yesterday was the fact that Hartlepool were total dogshit, played 30 mins with 10 men, hardly had a sniff of a chance, AND WE STILL COULDNT WIN

It was a dreadful performance and plan - almost Andy King-esque in the cluelessness. No idea how to play against ten men. Instead of width and stretching the play we got narrower. All we did was put the ball long but with Douglas being forced to deliver the ball 30 yards as the rest of the midfield went hiding up front.   

Apologies if it's been mentioned but how injury prone is Lucas? He's been in and out of the side all season which can't help the defence much. Not that anything will help them much.

One other thing I noticed that was very evident yesterday was just how deep JD is playing.
He almost seems to play as an extra centre half at times, not only that but he drops very deep to pick up the ball from the back four.

Wonder if he is the wise head we need to play in that position.
He might not have the pace, but then neither did Greer and neither has Frampton

Well, Wilson did set up a side properly to play 10 men by switching sides and getting the fullbacks to overlap. Or at least one would play in midfield and the rest of the back four would spread out. Yesterday Douglas had to force Sheehan to cross the halfway line by putting balls where he should have been.

As for Douglas it is clear that he has been told to do that - and fine - if it is meant to be a diamond but as soon as Douglas gets it Prutton and McGoven just fucked off leaving him 30 yards from anyone and very easily closed down.

Kingy made some wierd decisons but i have no doubt if he was in charge now we wouldn't be seeing any negative lineups/formations.

Admitally he might be playing Flint up front but the mentality would be correct.

Frampton has to be one of the worse defenders i have seen in a town shirt absolute dog shit. For such a experienced player he takes on no responsibility whatsoever. Yesterday was pretty much what we have come to expect from those bunch of cunts.

For me he is average. He's not terrible, but not the leader we needed either.

I think he is awful,worse than awful in fact.No pace not happy with the ball at his feet and couldn't trap a bag of cement. Easily out jumped not a threat from set pieces and for some reson insists on playing a high line when he doesn't have the pace to recover.

On a side note yesterday him and Harte on about 4 occasions fucking ripped into Phil Smith for not relesing the ball quick enough and about 1 min before the error Hart seriously went fucking mental at him for not relesing caddis. 1 min later look what happened.

I have never been so bemused by a bunch of players and managment than i have this year and that includes wilson the board the whole lot.

The crowd were also having a bit of a go at Smith for not releasing the ball quicker. It was obviously on his mind and whilst he shouldn't have done what he did you can sort of see why he did it. It kind of summed up our season didn't it. I could only sit and laugh.

To be honest both our keepers have been crap this season.

 

Totally agree Dean, LJF had a good game and spent a lot of the time covering Frampton.  I don't know what he would be like in Div 2, but I would sooner not have him!

Did anyone see Frampton jump for that header near the end and completely miss it. Comical.

He let one bounce back to the keeper, unfortunately the ball was never getting there and to give Smith due credit he was out smartly to deal with it.
