2-1 Exeter.

We'll put a shift in, they'll score against the run of play. 1-0 at HT. We'll come out a grab an equaliser, play well for the second half then concede a daft goal in stoppage time.

Reading on the ECFC forums they think that they will batter us, a couple of 4-0 or 4-1 in their predictions, a fair few saying that they are very happy that AOB is not playing as he scared them at the CG last month.

They are very confident with not one person thinking that we can go there and win.

Chance of an upset? nah I doubt it, I just hope we don't let ourselves down against them tonight.

3-2 to Exeter. We go in 2-0 up at half-time following goals from Ritchie and Obika, totally capitulate in the second half and concede two late goals in the 88th and 91st minutes.

Or: we play shit & get thrashed.

Well 12 without a win in Div3  in 55/56 is the worst in my time....followed by 11 in 05/06.

So an unexpected win may happen soon, but more likely Saturday, than tonight. A point tonight would be acceptable.

tues 15th,tues 22nd or tues 29th of March

Perhaps one of these dates for the re-arranged game?

Well Walsall play Dagenham tonight so one of them or both will be gaining points sadly. At the end of the day there is nothing we can do about other results. It would be nice to see where we would be after every team has played the same amount of games.

Even if they win. At the moment we don't really know what the table will look like with a parity of games. Somehow we need a kick up the arse, maybe realising we're six points from safety is the way (let's be honest we're all clutching at straws here).

Notts County have a whole bunch of games in hand on us anyway, so I don't really see them as a team for us to watch. I'm keeping my eye more on the 3 below us, then Plymouth and Yeovil. If we can catch up with anybody else it'll be a bonus/miracle.

When they came down the County Ground they gave it a good go up until about 80 minutes. Came for a win, not a point. Tranmere did change tactics after about 80 minutes to go for a point and after that we never got a sniff.

They are playing well. But again, could peak too early. This could be their best form of the season.

Yeah but we'll only be behind Wednesday by 5 points and they will only have played two less than us. As they are losing they must be worse.

Wednesday going down to the 4th division would be bizarre. Massive club.

Didn't Wolves go down to division 4 in the late 70's or early 80's ?

Struggle to believe the pitch was that bad, the roads/pavements were fucking bone dry.  Not the same thing i know but must be some sort of indication.

Exeter have issued a club statement:

After this evening's disappointment of losing another game to the weather the club would like to apologise to any of our own fans and those travelling from Swindon that may have been inconvenienced by the late postponement.

In light of this situation the club board, having further considered the condition and performance of the pitch, has decided to seek further technical assistance and legal advice.

Further information will be released as and when the club is able to do so.

Wonder if Exeter wanted the game to go ahead but Wilson and Co refused or had a word with the Ref.

Title: Re: Exeter City vs Swindon Town - Match Postponed
Post by: alanmayes on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 22:17:05
Hitchin Red was saying that when he arrived, some of the Exeter staff said that the Ref and Tisdale,
were willing to play but Wilson wanted it called off.

The club statement would suggest, that the pitch was indeed unfit.

Title: Re: Exeter City vs Swindon Town - Match Postponed
Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 22:18:37
If the ref says it's fine then the managers have no say, right?

And I'd imagine the legal advice would be against whichever company are paid to maintain the pitch.

Title: Re: Exeter City vs Swindon Town - Match Postponed
Post by: alanmayes on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 22:20:31
I should imagine that the threat of 'legal action' is probably against the company that laid the pitch
or the turf suppliers.

The ref makes a decision on whether the pitch is safe for the players....the managers may have a nosey around with him but they wont get a say i shouldn't think.

Yes it's down to the Ref, as to the pitch being playable or not.

Got to chuckle at them taking advice. BBC Local News showed a close up of the pitch and in areas it was completely saturated. Wilson's entitled to say what he thinks - it's the refs decision.

Maybe the papers in Devon are struggling for news in the same way the Adver are with misplaced matress headlines.

Some of them are having a go saying that Danny had a ready made excuse, taken from the Adver article.

The manager agreed with referee David Coote's decision to call the game off. He said: "You don't want to be losing a game and then blaming the pitch later on."

Fortunately, some more enlightened people have since slapped them down.

We arriveed and parked up outside the ground before 5:00 (visiting rellies) and I got a look at the pitch after I heard about the postponement. The goalmouth at the St James Rd end was sodden and a lot of the right touchline area was in the same state. Sheehan,Smith, Lucas, Ferry and co. all looked well pissed off. As for the George Wood, he sounded ready to knock heads.

Yeah I saw that, I think that Exeter wanted the game to be played badly and lost a lot of money which they can ill afford.

Maybe they are sueing the football league or referees association over it?

I must admit that it didnt look in too bad a shape when I had a look on the pitch about 6.20 (they had the gates open) a bit of forking and draining and I would have thought it playable, I have seen much worse pitches played on.

Title: Re: Exeter City vs Swindon Town - Match Postponed
Post by: pauld on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 19:51:32
I suspect from what they've said that it's more a case of looking at whether they have a case against either the people who moved/relaid the pitch in the summer and/or the people who maintain it for negligence, not putting in proper drainage or some such.

But if they wanted the game to be played badly, I'm sure we'll still be able to play badly in a month :)
