Title: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 15:36:38 Lordy I hate non-STFC weekends during the football season.
Sheffield Wednesday are giving Bristol Rovers a hiding... Brentford beating Southampton away. Brighton have missed a penalty at Huddersfield Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 15:39:28 I can't help but think our game was called off way too early. There are only two games off in Leagues 1 and 2. Ironic I suppose after being the only game played in L1 last week ::)
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 15:40:10 I also enjoyed Colin Murray's description of the Plymouth Argyle vs. Exeter City grudge match...
"Bradley Wright-Phillips has scored for Plymouth Argyle against Exeter City and now on to the big game between Chesterfield and Torquay United..." I bet that annoyed a few :D Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 15:42:25 Also, Paul Sturrock's Southend ain't having a good time of late.

Ironic I suppose after being the only game played in L1 last week ::) Pitches up here are fine. I've had football this morning in Blackburn and the pitches were quite soft, with waterlogging more of a problem than them being frozen. Think they wanted to be sure rather than run the risk of cancelling today. But I will take the game being off as they're not playing too bad at home, as long as it isn't rearranged for the 3rd round weekend - purely for selfish reasons, especially as I will only see a handful of games this season. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:15:19 Sam Parkin has scored. Good lad.
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:19:17 Sam Parkin has scored. Good lad. As has Blair Sturrock... He gets a meh though. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:21:11 As has Blair Sturrock... He gets a meh though. Jerel's Aberdeen have let four in...so far.Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:22:33 Can't imagine his career at Aberdeen will last longer now McGhee has left.
... Rhys Evans currently warms the bench at one of the worst teams in the Football League (currently). I bet he didn't see that coming 5 years ago. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: OOH! Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:32:01 Match of the Day is at 10pm tonight, and the Football League Show is at 11.20pm
Glad they mentioned that on Radio 5 else I'd have ended up missing the start of MOTD! Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:33:15 Luckily todays total of Premier League goals has just rocketed to four!
(Now 6) Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Saxondale on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:43:50 Rovers getting spanked. 6 - 2 now.
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:45:06 Rovers getting spanked. 6 - 2 now. ho ho ho :D Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:45:36 Luckily todays total of Premier League goals has just rocketed to four! 7!(Now 6) Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:46:35 7! Yeah, it's worth watching now they've decided to put some goals in. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 16:47:01 Rovers down into the drop zone, we're 2 points above it.
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 17:07:29 Pools panel gave us a draw and Scum a defeat....it's not all bad.
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 17:13:56 Rovers down into the drop zone, we're 2 points above it. Yet wierdly still only 2 wins off the play offs. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 17:28:49 Yet wierdly still only 2 wins off the play offs. That's all very well, but you have to wonder how we're going to get two more wins than all the teams above us to get up there. Getting ourselves into the top half has to be the first objective I'd say.Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 17:31:36 Yet wierdly still only 2 wins off the play offs. Not far from being half way through the season, and a slight worry is that our away form is crap, but we've yet to visit any team in the top ten. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 18:07:24 Yet wierdly still only 2 wins off the play offs. That was my go at misplaced Christmas optimism! Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Benzel on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 18:24:05 I like it when Oxford away games get postponed. Everytime it comes up on SSN it says POxford.
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 18:29:09 That was my go at misplaced Christmas optimism! We were in a similar position in Lou's last season 88/89....we scraped the PO's by virtue of 4 defeats in 25 games from the turn of the year....couple of those to Man City and Chelsea, who took auto. I really don't think something like that is going to happen with the present side. The catalyst for much of that drive was playing Alan Mac in the hole....previously he'd been at the CG for a couple of seasons without getting much of a look in. I remember the 88/89 season well, we had the basis of a very good side then, I agree I cannot see this side emulating that though, low mid table finish is on th cards IMO, as long as we arent struggling against relegation come April. Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: DMR on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 19:09:15 Must have been around this time in 03/04 under King we put a quality run together? What sort of position were we in in early Dec then?
Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 19:10:25 What wouldn't we give for even one of Digby, Mcloughlin, Shearer, White, Gittens, Calderwood or even Ross "fat controller" Mclaren in our side now.

What sort of position were we in in early Dec then? I think we were around 15th. Not sure what the points difference was.Edit: here's the table from 13th Dec 2003, just after we lost 3-2 at home to Plymouth. 14th place, 5 points off the play-offs. We didn't lose in 2004 until mid-March! http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/page/LeagueTable/0,,10341~20031213,00.html Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: coxyboy on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 19:20:45 Supermarine won 6-0!

Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: alanmayes on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 19:38:22 The 88/89 season was kick started by the 2 games against Pompey at the turn of the year.
We played at Fratton Park in the league on Jan 2nd and then five days later in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Winning the replay at the CG brought us a 4th Round tie with West Ham.Again with a replay it brought the Town national exposure, especially for Fraser, with headlines such as 'The best young Keeper in England'. It also brought a belief to the team and to the squad as a whole. With Alan Mac forcing his way into the side,we became more free scoring and played more football under Macari for the rest of the season, than we had seen during his tenure. Here's a glimpse of how we did that season, with the february win against the scum... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKAaI7E76N4 Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: joteddyred on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 19:58:09 Not far from being half way through the season, and a slight worry is that our away form is crap, but we've yet to visit any team in the top ten. The way our season has panned out so far, we'll end up either getting hammered or sneakily coming away with wins! Title: Re: Todays Football Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 20:45:18 There's always hope if we managed that under Kingy! King was always about 15 good games and 15 bad. A bit bipolar if you ask me. Wilson is often a slow starter to a season and then gets better and better. He likes to take the time to be fair to the squad and get the first team to sort itself out. Problem is this season, were still no closer to figuring out a settled side nearly half way through the season, which means Play Off - game over. |
