Seen as I have a 100% record in the JPT as I started the Torquay matchday thread thought I best start this one  ;).

I think we will see a continued improvement in form and a 2-0 win with Ball and Prutton getting the goals  8)

Same team and formation as Saturday and it'll be 3-1 with goals from Sir Charles, Ball and a Morrison header.

Dont get me wrong, I am not knocking Pericard at all.  It is just that I would like to see Dossevi get a full 90 minutes in.  But then I can see your argument with playing Pericard to keep his run of form from Saturday going.

Dossevi is not a striker, he's a right winger and should be competing with JPM for that role. After JPM's performances this season (I didn't go Saturday, mind), I'd give Dossevi 90 mins wide right.

In fairness to JPM he's hardly been played on the wing this season!
He was Saturday and his performance was much, much better.

Barring injuries, I think DW should go with the same 11. Whether he will or not.....

JPT's usually viewed as a good chance to give the more fringey players like Dossevi a chance to show what they can do

The one instance that really sticks out for me was the Brighton game, he got the ball down the right,facing our goal and in one movement he spun two players and broke away down the wing. I don't see him as a slow player either, although I get the impression some people think he lacks pace.

I'm not saying he should be brought in now, I'd keep the same team now. But when we do use him, I don't think it should be as a striker.

Your point is irrelevant.  Our board take it seriously so demand that the Manager picks a team to win, hence one of the reasons Malpas went in the end.

The rule is around ensuring x amount of the last league team is picked, provided they are available.  That was done to ensure fans weren't short changed in the way the League Cup can be by the bigger teams from time to time.

Personally not fussed by it, but our club is, so even if the league said we could play the youth team, we wouldn't.

Is that what it is, 7 from the last league game? thats more tangible but still pointless, what would you rather see, a team of kids out there trying for the shirt or a team of senior players trotting around not giving a fuck? (you get to see that most league games, I know)

I would like to see the same team as Saturday, see if we can build up a bit of momentum. I'm glad the club take the competition seriously because there is a big prize at stake and it's one we have the ability to win.

That said I think tonight will be a tough game as Brentford are on a good run, they may be more inclined to rest players though with an FA Cup replay next week, so that could help us.

Interesting that Brentford have already been involved in 3 penalty shoot-outs this season, wouldn't bet against another one tonight.

It looks like pretty crappy conditions for the game, we don't always seem to do well when that's the case.

Things seem so up unpredictable at the moment that I wouldn't want to be betting on this game.

Even if you don't give a shit about the JPT itself, it still seems like a key game in terms of putting some momentum together. A convincing, comfortable, drama free performance tonight could be like strapping the bloated corpse of neil ruddock to the deflector dish of the good star ship Swindon town.

A clean sheet would be wonderful. I'll be worried that once we concede defensive confidence breaks down into gibbering wreck of nervous breakdowns.

Game summary:

Started off well, Austin scored, Peri looked to be taken down in box, team fell asleep, defensive frailties still there as a unit rather than individuals, complete fuck up for second goal as well when Smith should have claimed it. Second half better, Austin missed sitter from 2 yards, Austin missed header, O'Brien - why. Pens. Ball unlucky, Timlin's in orbit. Game over.

Just back. More of the same, but we looked quite good up until Pericard went off. Ball did okay but he doesn't link up well with Austin. Morrison looked shakey again. O'Brien was his usual shit self. Smith's fault for the goal I think, but he did pull off a blinding save in the first half.

Enough said about the penalties the better. Apart from Austin's they were all shite, and Timlin's is still on its way to the moon.

Might not need to.  I heard he has an automatic option to extend his contract after playing a certain amount of game but is uming and ahing whether to take it up. Supermarine must be rubbing their hands with glee.

I just don't get O'Brien at all... he could be a great player -has great pace and a decent-ish cross, but seems to have no footballing brain, no drive and seems to have no intention of putting in any effort - ever.

Sorry but Austin looked disinterested and wasn't in the game. Should have scored the easiest chance he'll ever be presented with.

Stupid thing was Ritchie on one side and McGovern was still working when O'Brien came on. Unbelievable. It was only due to comedy finnishing we werent 3-1 up.

Unfortunately (or not as the case may be) the 7pm kick off put paid to my attendance tonight.  

The hope that Saturday's result was the turning point was clearly just a dream again.  

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

To be honest I didn't think it was a bad game at all, we just failed to take our chances. Their keeper had a decent game. We missed some absolute sitters.... Austin??? As for Alan O'Brien. GET RID NOW, What a waste of fucking space. I dont think I have ever been so pissed off and annoyed at a player (Ask Batch!!!), As for the game, not bad and we should have won 4-1 but didn't. Decent enough game though and didn't think we played bad.

I think it seemed to change when Pericard went off until then he was having the ball up front and was working (reasonably) well with Austin and  holding the ball, after that no one was able to hold the ball up it never stuck up front, it is worrying when we have to rely on Peri.

It is about time Wilson got in another striker to work with Charlie.

The goal we conceded was just poor LJF was left with 2 players to mark and he just didn't get high enough to stop the ball being nodded across goal and into the net I think Smith was stranded on the other side, there were signs in the first half that we had improved but then they just go and play crap.

The concern is that we just cannot put a decent run together which is obviously what is needed to a promotion push, unfortunetly unless something drastic happens I cannot see us having a go this season.

We started well and when Austin notched i thought it was Torquay all over again.

BUT bit by bit, we got shit.

Stopped playing football (which Brentford didnt like) and started banging it long, took Pericard off and played even more long balls!!???  WTF???

The goal we conceded was shit, Smith couldnt make up his mind, the Brentford forward mis controlled the ball and clipped it wide and two defenders stood off him as he calmly turned and crossed to the far post....utter shit defending that!

In the second half we missed a mountain of chances, Ball seemed unwilling to pass the fucking ball (The shot that hit the post should of been squared and he tried to shoot instead of tapping it a yard to Prutton), when we are three up have a pop but lets get the fucking goals.

Dont know why Pericard came off? (Was he brought down through on goal?). Dont know why Dossevi was on the bench (only one striker on the bench for a cup game???). Dont know why O'Brien cannot cross, etc etc.

Austin is a god but he fucked up big time by whacking the ball against that defender on the line.

Pens: Anybody who hits the post/bar or misses the goal frame needs shagging...

The Ref did well in my book and let alot go for both sides which i personally like, however, when a throw on is given and a defender (Legge) kicks the ball 40 yards away, shouldnt he get booked?  I think the ref bottled it as he knew the bloke was already boooked.

In Summary the season as a spectacle is over, that was my great hope for honours.

We can now concentrate on being mid table, enough dreaming!!!!

It all went wrong when simon ferry said on the radio that pericard was playing well and looked lively, within 10min he was off!

We were alright last night. Should have won easily if i'm being honest. Has plenty of chances in the 2nd half and didn't take them. How Austin missed that rebound off Ball's shot I will never know but he looked off the pace all game. Not the ususal Austin which was dissapointing to see. Not sure we really showed enough urgency to force the issue in the end and our penalties were dreadful. I'm not too fussed about going out of the JPT but it's one less thing ticked off the list this season. We can still hope for an FA Cup run but we need to pick up in the league soon if we want to be up there. The big worry for me was that despite having much possesion and even a fair few chances we were still awful at the back. They had about 2 shots and 1 was a goal. I dread to think how many they'd have got with a few more attacks and efforts on goal.

That was my first Swindon game. Think he scored it at the stratton bank end though.

I thought the same thing about Austin on Saturday.  Didn't look overly interested.  Hope that sorts itself out soon enough.

Understood Spencer, but let's be fair, as much as we'd be in the cart without Austin's goals, he has missed a lot of chances in the last couple of home games, whereas last season it seemed like he couldn't miss.

I suspect it's 'second season syndrome', where it's not all quite so fresh and exciting for him, more attention being paid by opposing teams, (and indeed his injury). Let's hope he regains the real spark soon.

parkin had times when it looked like he wasn't interested too.

If 9 goals in 13 starts is 'second season syndrome' then I am pretty happy.  He didn't look disinterested to me the other night he looked annoyed he had missed those chances and we were not winning, plus there full backs and centre backs kept trying to shove into him every header and you could see it was winding him up.  In the vast majority of games this season he has looked the only player interested.

Who do people compare Austin to Parkin? Austin is 10000% times better than Parkin ever was. He has an all round game where as Parkin was just a goal poacher. Dont get me wrong, Parkin scored goals and did well here but isn't fit to lace Austin's boots.

The scary thing is with the two chances v Charlton(good saves) and the couple v Brentford that wasn't scored he could be on 13 for the season..........i would get a top quality finisher in to coach him for a while because his goal scoring record could end up frightening....25 in 42 is a great record...but it so easily could of been 35 in 42.
Austin really should go to the top in the game...its in his hands.

Parkin wasnt just a goal poacher, infact he scored a few long rangers for us - even an overhead kick. Something Charlie hasnt come close to doing.

Charlie is like a Liniker - right place right time and (usually) deadly finish.

But I think he has added a fair bit to his overall game too with bringing others into play, strength and winning headers. So much so that he's starting to look like our best player at times - not bad concidering he was a brickie little over a year ago!

Parkin was brilliant at this level too though, bit early for comparisons.

parkin was, and austin now is the talisman forward for us.
parkin had games where he didn't look interested,and as austin was mentioned numerous times for doing this on tuesday it prompted my post.

Austin has had 12 months of high performance, Parkin delivered for 3 seasons which is something that you dont see that often at this level.
