Title: Sam Parkin Post by: Fulham Red on Friday, September 3, 2010, 11:25:07 Met SSP in a pub in Barnes last night - spoke fondly of his time at the County Ground, mentioned that when he was on the bench for Walsall at his last visit to the CG and he begged Chris Hutchings to give him ten minutes so he could acknowledge the fans etc but was turned down.
Now at St Johnstone where he said 'The Beast' didn't give him a kick when they played Aberdeen recently. Seems over his injuries and quite up for the SPL. It's comforting when someone who was a a Swindon legend is in no way a twat just pretty down to earth Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Arriba on Friday, September 3, 2010, 12:43:38 never met the bloke, but i don't doubt he's a nice guy.
i've met a few footballers and only found one to be a prick.others i've heard slated, i've found to be nice fellas. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Dozno9 on Friday, September 3, 2010, 13:22:11 I just wish SSP good things, I've felt for him over the past 4/5 seasons. Met him last year at a Swindon game (forget which one) which he came to, thoroughly nice chap.

Who was the prick? Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, September 3, 2010, 15:55:04 One of the few that's not a twat! He's lush! I had the pleasure of meeting SSP a few times, and he's a top bloke. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:04:06 I only ever saw him play once
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: trogladite on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:11:13 Honest footballer with no little skill. He was a ray of sunshine in our dismal years. I'd like to shake him by the hand sometime. One of the few players that I always look out for.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:25:36 The only game i saw was Leeds away. Don't think i could of chose a better game to see him
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: sonicyouth on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:28:59 I only ever saw him play once  How long were you banned for?I met Parkin briefly and he always seemed to have time for the fans, same as Miglioranzi. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:30:34 6 years but went down to 4 on appeal.I only ever heard good things about him as a player and off the pitch.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: DV on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:31:37 I can only echo the positive comments about Sam Parkin and as Sonicjinx said Miglioranzi to.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Stegenfreud on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:49:58 SSP and Migz were both top pro's and lovely people off the pitch. True gents.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: walrus on Friday, September 3, 2010, 16:56:43 That team of Evans, Gurney, Ifil, Heywood, Duke, Igoe, Hewlett, Miglioranzi, Howard, Parkin, Fallon/Mooney is my favourite of all the years supporting Town (since '98). Maybe I'm looking at the past through rose-tinted spectacles, but it's also probably the best we've had in that time.
Parkin was an absolutely hero and I'll always remember him fondly! Still dream of seeing him back in a Town shirt, although I fear a return would only be a disappointment... Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: JB_Swindon on Friday, September 3, 2010, 17:04:33 Parkin was an absolutely hero and I'll always remember him fondly! Still dream of seeing him back in a Town shirt, although I fear a return would only be a disappointment... I dont know.. some players seem to play well in certain sorroundings, like darren byfield. Parkin and Austin upfront would certainly get bums on sets though!A man can only dream... Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Friday, September 3, 2010, 17:07:30 Parkin was just a legend. I remember when he turned down a move to Hull when he could have so easily have gone and then he scored a couple (I think) against them a few weeks later. It's a shame we never got promoted in 2004 as I think he'd have stayed a bit longer had we managed it.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: @MacPhlea on Friday, September 3, 2010, 17:09:53 Parkin was an absolutely hero and I'll always remember him fondly! Still dream of seeing him back in a Town shirt, although I fear a return would only be a disappointment... Parkin back as Swindon would be the Schumacher F1 equivalent - (almost) everyone wants it but everyone knows he is past his best Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: knifey spoony on Friday, September 3, 2010, 18:10:56 That team of Evans, Gurney, Ifil, Heywood, Duke, Igoe, Hewlett, Miglioranzi, Howard, Parkin, Fallon/Mooney is my favourite of all the years supporting Town (since '98). What, better than Lucas, Amankwaah, Cuthbert, Greer, Sheehan, McGovern, Ferry, Douglas, Ward, Paynter, Austin? Agree though, Sam Parkin was an absolute legend here, and always seemed a decent chap. I'd probably still find a place in the squad for him now. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Ardiles on Friday, September 3, 2010, 18:27:37 That team of Evans, Gurney, Ifil, Heywood, Duke, Igoe, Hewlett, Miglioranzi, Howard, Parkin, Fallon/Mooney is my favourite of all the years supporting Town (since '98). Maybe I'm looking at the past through rose-tinted spectacles, but it's also probably the best we've had in that time. Last season's side was better, surely? Still, that team of 2003/04 was just about the only (relative) highlight in an otherwise disastrous decade. Met SSP in a pub in Barnes last night You bugger. I was living in Putney while he was still on our books and never saw him out once. Sad, I know, but - yes - I did tend to look out for him. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: jutty274 on Friday, September 3, 2010, 19:27:21 I remember after the last game he played for us he came into the cgh and thanked all the fans in there for supporting him and that he will always hold Swindon fans in the highest regard. He was a true gent.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: jb on Friday, September 3, 2010, 19:37:55 That team of Evans, Gurney, Ifil, Heywood, Duke, Igoe, Hewlett, Miglioranzi, Howard, Parkin, Fallon/Mooney In my opinion only Parkin would get in our team from last year Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: sonicyouth on Friday, September 3, 2010, 20:25:17 I'd have had Howard on the left before Ward's arrival.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, September 3, 2010, 21:00:52 A cunt he may be, but Mooney of that season would easily get into our side now.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Christy on Friday, September 3, 2010, 22:34:21 Two things for me.
From sitting low in the DRS - seeing the fire, the madness in his eyes as he came sliding over after scoring the equaliser (?) against the Wendies on that great comeback night. At the top of his game, doing what he loved best, where he loved best. His complete humility when interviewed on the radio after that Legends game thing. SSP - a legend - kicked the game off but all he wanted to talk about was his pride at sharing the pitch, his pitch, our pitch with other Swindon legends. He knew his stuff alright, he knew his place and he properly respected and appreciated it. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: leefer on Friday, September 3, 2010, 22:40:26 Remember him scoring at Blackpool............a friend had begged us not to mess about in the Town as he had to get home Saturday night...........we ended up spending the night there anyway because he ran on the pitch and grabbed Parkin, got nicked and wasn't let out till Sunday morning.
My favourite goal of his was Leeds away in the cup....great team goal with a brill finish. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: jb on Friday, September 3, 2010, 22:44:40 A cunt he may be, but Mooney of that season would easily get into our side now. Yeh he was class that season, great work rate Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: carbonwhite on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 00:10:25 Yeh he was class that season, great work rate the hat trick on his debut has to be special to him something he will never forget nor me :DTitle: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: JOHNNY REEVES on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 08:21:10 He loved scoring against his team QPR the best being in front of the town end when he waltzed past a couple of defenders to scoe the 3rd in our 3-1 win.To top the day off it rained on the QPR fans on the bank and they left early.
Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 08:43:15 A cunt he may be, but Mooney of that season would easily get into our side now. Of course he would. But some people try to re-write history unfortuntately ::) Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: sonicyouth on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 09:07:35 He loved scoring against his team QPR the best being in front of the town end when he waltzed past a couple of defenders to scoe the 3rd in our 3-1 win.To top the day off it rained on the QPR fans on the bank and they left early. One of the best goals I've seen at the County Ground, sublime stuff. Probably the furthest distance he ever scored from too :) Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Benzel on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 09:48:26 What ever happened to that Goal Machine video on youtube, with Muse - Assassin playing over it?
Love that video, made the hairs stand on end watching all his goals. The most natural finisher we had until Charlie came along. Title: Re: Sam Parkin Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, September 4, 2010, 11:46:33 What ever happened to that Goal Machine video on youtube, with Muse - Assassin playing over it? Love that video, made the hairs stand on end watching all his goals. The most natural finisher we had until Charlie came along. Yeah that video was quality. Remember one of the stand out goals at home to QPR where he took it round a couple of players then finished it neatly.
