Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 12:29:11 If we're getting cash then we can't complain really.
Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Colin Todd on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 12:32:17 Seems slightly as odds with Fittons desire to bring the youth through our ranks, but I assume the lad wanted to go so there wasnt much point in trying to stop him.
If we get some more loan players in from liverpools reserves I'm sure that will help sweeten the deal from our point of view. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 12:43:06 It's better to agree a deal for our youngsters rather than lose them and get fuck all from a tribunal. Plus building a relationship with a big club like Liverpool can only be a positive, and if we go up it should increase the chances of us getting Darby on loan for next season which could be massive.
Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: pauld on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 12:45:04 Seems slightly as odds with Fittons desire to bring the youth through our ranks I think the philosophy is more "One to play, one to sell", so we bring some through and develop them ourselves, others are developed to a certain point before being sold to help fund the whole kaboodleTitle: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 12:53:19 I think the philosophy is more "One to play, one to sell", so we bring some through and develop them ourselves, others are developed to a certain point before being sold to help fund the whole kaboodle Also, as mentioned in the article, it is very much in the interests of the player to go to somewhere like Liverpool since he is a goalkeeper, and will receive more specialist coaching there.Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: DV on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 13:17:55 never seen him play, as for youths has anyone heard anything about Henshall recently?
Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 13:56:12 never seen him play, as for youths has anyone heard anything about Henshall recently? according to some cretin on the adver site, he is signing for man utd in the next few weeksTitle: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: radicalbyte on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 14:36:47 Keepers take a long time to develop, and thus a long time before they become worth selling. So it's logical to sell him to Liverpool.
Henshall on the other hand.. it would be a silly move on his part if he jumped ship to an EPL team now. If he keeps developing at this rate then he'll be pushing for our first team in a year or two.. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 14:49:15 Keepers take a long time to develop, and thus a long time before they become worth selling. If he keeps developing at this rate then he'll be pushing for our first team in a year or two.. Good points....also it's very difficult to recognise goalkeepers of talent at a young age. Take Martin New....back in the late 70's he was turning out for Swindon Schools and England Schools, had a chance to sign for Town but preferred Arsenal, signing as a 17 year old. By the age of 20 he was out the door, had a half a season at Mansfield then Barnsley, and was out the game by 21. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 17:01:10 that isn't just for keepers though.plenty of highly regarded kids in every postition dissapear into the abyss.
Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 17:06:06 Exciting move for the kid, goodluck to him. The most important thing for a small club like Swindon is to keep big clubs like Liverpool sweet. Especially the quality of player they would be willing to loan us if we were to get into the Championship.

Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Oaksey Moonraker on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 21:51:10 I think it was the specialist goalkeeping coaching that was why we let Jamie Stephens go to Liverpool as I heard and posted on here a few weeks ago. Fitton has said that he won't stand in the way of players who want to progress/try their luck elsewhere.
I also think the reciprocal arrangement with Liverpool has mutual benefits. We get a call on players like Darby when they are prepared to let players out. I also believe that the rules around signing youngsters within a 70 mile/1 hour radius means that it's beneficial for Liverpool to tie up with a club in the South West as they get access to an area that they wouldn't otherwise be able to sign players from until they can sign pro forms. We bring them on a bit and then have the option to sell on or keep if we deem either as being right for the club Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 22:06:52 i dont think flogging a 16 year old to liverpool will have any bearing on future relations between the clubs.
it's just a bit of business, that's all. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: chalkies_shorts on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 22:38:49 Good luck to the fella. The good news is thatwe've got scouts sniffing after our youngsters. The fact we now seem to look after the loanees won't do any harm at all.
I think we're light years away from Spurs and their "best endeavours, tuppence hapenny and fuck you" atttitude. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: santasdead on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 22:55:19 Liverpool have about 4 'keepers within the age bracket that Stephens will play under. But with Jesionkowski, Smith and probably Scott taking up at least the next 2 seasons worth of reserves it's no surprise he's bailed.

Bit naive, any bit of business between any two parties creates a relationship of some sort generally. Forgotten about that, that's really embarrassing thinking back. Spurs have gone in my black book again. I imagine Mark Scott will leave this summer with Lucas, Smith and Jesionkowski as the three. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: tans on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 08:05:12 I imagine Mark Scott will leave this summer with Lucas, Smith and Jesionkowski as the three. He'll stay at banbury united where he is on loan at the moment ;) Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Gelbfüßler on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 08:32:22 He'll stay at banbury united where he is on loan at the moment ;) and was apparently total shit in his first game there (must be going back a few weeks now). Any idea how he's doing now? George Redknapp Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 08:47:59 I imagine Mark Scott will leave this summer with Lucas, Smith and Jesionkowski as the three. I am not so sure Rich, George Woods was on the radio saying how much he had come along this season and may break into the 1st team squad next year. Callum Antel the youth team keeper has been released and is being given a trial at Yeovil and 2 other youngsters have been given trials at Exeter, not sure which of them it is though. Redknap ain there anymore i dont think Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Gelbfüßler on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 09:28:32 My mate is a puritan for his sins. Didn't realise it was Brackley - don't think Banbury like them much do they?

Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: pauld on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 10:19:32 where has a fee been mentioned and what exactly wud we get seeing he hasnt signed pro forms with us? And a 25% sell-on.Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: singingiiiffy on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 10:36:00 Adver saying upwards of £60k, half on signing, half if he goes pro. Let's face it, a 25% sell-on clause isn't likely to bring much in. Goalkeepers get released from top clubs a lot more often than they get sold.Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 14:49:40 Let's face it, a 25% sell-on clause isn't likely to bring much in. Goalkeepers get released from top clubs a lot more often than they get sold. But it is in there just in case though - good luck to the lad if he wants to try his luck at liverpool and under the present regime they will ensure we are not ripped off, and are making good relations with a few of the big clubs. Title: Re: Jamie Stephens Post by: pauld on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 14:56:45 not doubting what you say but this isnt on the official website and cant find it in the latest article on thisis? OK, well it's on the back page of the paper. Which doesn't mean to say it's actually true of course so I really wouldn't worry about it too much |
