I'm thinking he may start on saturday to replace Ferry. He has played on the wing for West Brom, but if he does I think it may be quite an attacking line up.

Smith
Darby
Greer
Lescinal
Sheehan
Ward
Marshall
Dougie
JPM
Nouble
Austin

Still, I think he'll be a good signing but I'm not as convinced as everyone else just yet.

To be fair, a certain Mr S.Cox is hardly deforesting West Brom either.

I think he will either be ace or a Pericard clone.

But I will reserve judgement until I see him play, obviously.

Clearly none of us can tell whether he's going to be absolute class, a complete dummy or somewhere in between until we actually see how he plays in our team. But, he's pretty well rated IIRC and I'm surprised he's prepared to go below 2nd tier. Irrespective of how it does turn out the fact we are able to make signings of this calibre speaks volumes about how we are regarded as a club and Wilson as a manager. On that basis alone, I'm fucking well chuffed.

PS @ Dave, I hope he doesn't tear up any trees while he's here, the council would have a blue fit.

Very good signing indeed.  If he did not have something about him then he wouldnt have played for West Ham or West Brom this season.

I saw him play up top on his own for West Ham at Aston Villa earlier this season on Sky and was pretty impressed with him, even though he did slip up every 5 minutes but he seemed full of energy and willing to run at defenders with a bit of pace.  Hopefully he can come to Town willing to make a name for himself.

For tomorrow I would go with...

Smith, Darby, Greer, God, Sheehan, McGovern, Douglas, Ward/Easton (depends if Ward is fit), Marshall, Austin & Noodles.

You Reds!

The one thing we have lacked this season is pace....with Marshall a 'new' player with pace this kiddy may give us another dimension.

Title: Re: Frank Nouble to sign
Post by: strooood on Friday, March 19, 2010, 11:03:34
Saw him a few times last season for West Ham reserves. A big lump of a striker with pace to burn.

One of those real 'athlete' players, ones who have clearly always been bigger and stronger than their age groups, ones who are often found out when it to comes to being a professional.

For what it's worth, i think it's a superb signing for this level though.

I like this.  It continues our season of having strikers with good old fashioned names that could have been in roy of the rovers.  Charlie, Billy, Frank, Danny even Vincent at a push (though he would have been the posh one).  We'll ignore Tempe or whatever obadeye was called.

By my reckoning we haven't had a striker called Frank, since Frank Large, who I recall starting well with a brace in a 2-1 home win v Argyle in 64.

Speaking of braces, Frank should probably have had one as a kid as he had notably protruding teeth.

Other than Frank Burrows and Frank Talia....can't think of any others in my time, but I'm sure there must be others.  Franco Sperti isn't quite the same.

We have enough of those. With the limit on loan players we're really getting cover in more than for competition at this stage of the season.

I was wondering if Nouble had any connection with Town players or management.

He's said that he's been  longtime friends with Mark Marshall and even went to watch
the Saints game last tuesday. He's also admitted that he was impressed with the Town fans!

Like others i haven't been able to watch his interview, but read the written one on the OS.

The Chelsea TV commentator on that youtube clip was pronouncing it "Nooble", and I guess they should know.

Dear Mr Reg Smeeton - I notice his middle name is Herman, has anyone called Herman played for the Town before? I know you like a challenge......

Thought he showed promise myself.

Chased down a few lost causes and put himself about a bit.

Sure he held onto it too long at times, but he'd been at the club for a day, few sessions with Wilson and his team mates and I think he could prove to be a great addition. Gives us something we didn't had up top.

The ball stuck to his foot at times, he literally walked past 3 Norwich defenders with the ball no more than about 3 centimetres away from him at one point. Did well considering, but I've got a feeling he'll be a bit frustrating.

Like someone else said, especially for a young 'un & after only joining the lads the day before, & playing in a league that's totally new to him, I thought he showed a lot of potential and a good attitude. Seemed to glide past people on a couple of occasions. Looks to me like he has a quick brain + speed off the mark = bye bye league 1 defenders......

I think it's hard to judge him on his performance on Saturday, since he came in against arguably the best defence in the league. They marked Charlie out of the game and it took us 300 minutes of play to score against them this season! Get him in the game against Hartlepool, rinngin at defenders, and hopefully he'll show us what he can do. If I wasn't busy on Saturday, I'd be looking forward to seeing Jeff fall to pieces all afternoon :)

He certainly was the most lazy Town player on the pitch yesterday, disgrace is going a bit far. To be fair to him he did at least try to get himself in the game as it went on.

Like I said on the matchday thread, Austin just looked a different class. Not just for the workrate, but everything else as well.

Our standards are very high this season. Loan players can either apply themselves with our work ethic (like Danny Ward, Simon Ferry and Alan Sheehan have) or they can fall by the wayside like all the other loan players this season. I think a lot of those players who look lazy have actually been affraid that if they do try their best they still wont be as good as our own players.

Very glad to see Paynter back yesterday. Although dont write Nouble off too soon, he could have a part to play off the bench with his pace. But he must be looking for chances, work hard and keep the ball.

Title: Re: Frank Nouble to sign

I've got a feeling that a lot of the young prem players we've had on loan have arrived expecting to be as class above what we've got, and thinking that they'll be able to stroll about relying on talent rather than sweat.

A few of them have had a bit of a shock. Some have knuckled down and put in the work needed, others have hung about in the reserves and sloped off home. Franks gong to have to deceide which category he wants to be in.

Title: Re: Frank Nouble to sign
Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Sunday, March 28, 2010, 11:33:19
I thought Nouble was out fought by the two central defenders yesterday, but they were built like doormen. Second half he picked up his game and got mor involved in some nice hold up play. Paynter looked strong when he came on and immediately starting making the 2 centre halfs life a lot harder.

Even if he does up his work rate I don't think he will start, Austin-Paynter is surely the first choice partnership so he will have to make do with a role off the bench.

Hmmm despire what fans think of him, chanting "you're shit and you know you are" at Nouble is just fucking embarrassing. I asked the pillocks which team they were supporting and they soon shut up. Didn't get into the game today but did a decent job at Elland Road.

I'm not riled about it, I just thought I would share this observation with you all and possibly annoy DRS.

It was only a couple of lads in the row behind me, didn't really get loud enough because I started changing the words to "you're pricks and you know you are".

And just for DRS, I loved the way that everyone cheered and clapped before the game kicked off.

I reckon he's got flypaper on those blue boots, as he cant seem to get the ball out from his feet. Didn't see him at Leeds, but he played exactly like that 1st Half at Hartlepool, looked a different player in the 20 mins 2nd half before being subbed, Once he gets a goal should get his confidence up, as we will need him, as Charlie has the hatchet men on his case now.

I think he'd do better up front with Paynter than Austin (yes I do realise Billy's just back from injury) so hopefully we'll see that at some point.

We should give him a game against Exeter, he strikes me as the kind of player who would show up when the TV cameras are about!

To be fair, if not for a goal-line clearance and a point blank save from their keeper, he'd have got the fourth yesterday

The thing is he was good at Leeds when he came on. I thought that yesterday he wasn't quite at the same level so no doubt all the fans that didn't go to Leeds will think he's shite. Annoys me.

To me he looks like a better version of Tope in that he dosnt really seem to know what he is doing half the time. I think he has more about him than Tope though.

Lacked a bit of composure in front of goal yesterday when clean though, he just blasted it straight at the keeper.

would like to just see him run at the opposition if he's on for the last ten, that will frighten them enough and keep heat off us, was unlucky yesterday though spesh with the first chance

He was Ok againts Leeds. But woeful yesterday.

Much like Hutchincunt really. "I'll play againts the bigger teams, but not try against the lesser" mentality. Rather put Marshall up top if we need to replace Billy or Sir Charles.

You been drinking? Marshall up front would get killed against 2 big centre halfs.  Nouble has not set the world alight yet but he causes problems whenever he plays or comes off the bench.  If he had showed more composure on the one on one (when he hit it straight at the keeper) or had bit more luck when his other shot come off the post then he would of ended up with 2 against Tranmere.

Don't understand the comparison with Hutchinson either who was an experienced pro who was lazy, arrogant and billy big time where as Nouble is a kid who strikes you as young, naieve and still learning his trade.  I still believe Pericard and Nouble will contribute important goals in the run in this season and some of the criticism labelled at them is harsh, give me those 2 over Hutchinson, Revell or any of the other jokers we had earlier in the season.

I liked Revell and i liked this lad.

He was awesome at Leeds.

The last thing any defender needs is a big fast lad crashing into you when you have had Paynter or Austin to deal with.

I quite simply cannot believe that somebody actually suggested putting Marshall up front..

Sorry was a bit exagerated but been around the game for 5 years now, so as hes played at top clubs he has a swagger about him that felt like being here was beneath him, I do not believe Nouble has that.  I just think its a learning curve for him and he will get better as he adapts to this league.

He came on as a sub and played up front at a home game not that long ago.

Not when other strikers were fit he didn't.

Yes he did. Can't remember if it was Oldham or Norwich but either way we started the game with two strikers on the pitch and another on the bench. He came on as sub (tactical, not for an injury) and played up front with Ward staying left midfield (which surprised everyone, including Ward).

Marshall has played as 'wide' forward but not a centre forward if that makes sense. He'd never do a decent job as a two man attack but will do a job as a 3 man attack with a big man to play off. As he did against Norwich when we went with Ward - Pericard - Marshall upfront.

I didnt like Alex Revell at all but he at least fucking scored, twice!

We can assess Revell on Sat against Wycombe

I think Nouble is worth keeping for cover until end of the season

Has anyone else noticed that all he seems to do is pass the ball back to the player that just passed to him. Im sure there must be a tactic involved in his play somewhere, i just cant see it.

I've noticed that. He's surprisingly shit at it as well considering its such a basic skill

Nouble...Pericard...Onion Bhaji...Big Trev...

I will probably get shouted at for this but I think that they are all of the same mould. Big and useless.

I have got to the position now where if they are brought on I know we are not going to score any time up to the end of the match.

Pericard didn't score the goals he did for Carlisle by being useless, how many games has he actually started ?

I'm sure given a run in the team he will be fine, but it can;t be easy coming on as a sub when we are chasing the game to try and make a difference - cut him some slack, I'm sure we won't see his best until next season when he's had a good pre-season with us

Totally agree and so does the Walsall Journo , this is an extract from his match report

"However, the Saddlers didn’t wilt in the energy-sapping Wiltshire sunshine.

They were also helped by Danny Wilson’s 70th minute decision to bring off Austin. The striker’s replacement, ex-Baggies loanee Frank Nouble, was, quite frankly, useless."

Well surely he would have had a proper pre-season/preparation at Carlisle? You can't have it both ways old chap.

Quote
Who the hell is Frank Nouble? One of the worst performances of a 'striker' I've ever seen...
_____________________________________________________

Frank Nouble's one of the worst players I've ever seen at Villa Park. He can't even stand up.
_____________________________________________________

On the Frank Nouble point made yesterday, couldn't agree more, I couldn't believe he was a footballer watching him yesterday, and I honestly still don't, surely a football fake.
_____________________________________________________

Yeah, football fake. Obviously moving down the leagues until he finds somewhere where he can get away with pretending to be a footballer. First West Brom, next Swindon. He'll be playing in the Ryman Premier Division soon
_____________________________________________________

His performance at Bristol City was a disgrace. I cannot stand when players don't give their all for the cause. Nouble evidently didn't give a damn that day and I thought we should have sent him back straight after that match to be honest.

 :D

Hopefully he will come good, I'd laugh if he scores the winner at Millwall to send us up.
