They played 5 across the midfield to frustrate us. Great ball and finish from Charlie for the first goal.

I thought our support was shit today (and I include myself!). Just couldn't get going anything going.

Comfortable win today. We were better in the 2nd when the wannabe Jocks started hitting the ball long and hopeful. Their no 7 looked useful but Cuthbert and Greer were excellent today. Two great finishes and we could have had a lot more. Pericard put in an interesting stint - could have had 2 or 3 but produced a couple of beautiful passes.
Hopefully another 3 points Tuesday. We are looking the real deal. i think we played within ourselves today and had another gear or two to go up if needed. Not sure why their useless lumps were giving it large.

Ref was a tosser and the lino on the side of the Arkells was a fucking weak retard. He barely raised his flag or reacted to anything unless, i'm guessing, the ref told him what to do over the mike. Even when it was clear what direction a throw in went, he didn't react until loverboy in the middle told him.

I'm sick to the back teeth of sitting where i sit. The people around me are getting on my tits soooo much, why can't people shut the fuck up and watch the game? Maybe i'm just old and miserable, because no one's being that negative, just tiresome nonsense commentry (with no knowledge of the players names) being shouted from start to finish.

Where as at the moment, I seem to have some people behind me who are super negative - then we score and its all rosey.

I could go on but shouting at players on the pitch, by using the name of a player not on the pitch, is annoying. Especially for 90 minutes.

No negativity in the Town End today apart from being pretty quiet for the most part. The singing seemed to reflect the game (I suppose it should) in that it was scrappy with not much joined up effort ? Still we won and won fairly easily as even with the customary chances for the visitors we were undoubtedly the better side.
We are in a great position that even though we are clearly a team no one wants to play at the moment we still remain under the general radar even with the likes of Charlie doing his stuff. It gets better, and if this carries on in this manner we have every chance of play offs being the very least of what we will achieve. Although we still only dare to dream, auto promo is not beyond us at this stage, what a position to be in bearing in mind that two years ago we seemed fucked !
Well done to ALL our players today. For me no scapegoats and another step towards what may well be a turnaround in one season that I think the most of us probably in truth didn't expect ....so soon.
Also how reassuring is it to see the likes of Easton and Morrison having no trouble to slot in and carry on the good work !

I dunno if its already been mentioned, but did anyone hear the pre-match interview with Andrew Fitton?

He said that contracts have been agreed in principle with Sean Morrison, Jon-Paul McGovern, Phil Smith and Callum Kennedy. And then something like the deals for McGovern and Morrison would be 2 years with the option to extend.

He also stated that Caddis wont be joining this season because you cant do international 'emergency' loans :(

Some of our passing play Today was top notch, so used to seeing shit on that pitch in the past I keep expecting our good form to end. Slowly though it is sinking in now that we have a very good team. I'm not surprised now when we take the lead in a game, i'm more expectant of it. However, deep down I still think we are only 3 injuries away from it all going tits up. The way things are going though we won't get those injuries and long may our form continue, loving being a Town fan, loud and proud  :)  ;D  :D

We've scored first more than any other team in League One this season, about 67% of our games.

That's probably because the ref's instructions before the match were 'look at me, i'll look at you. you have the flag in the hand you think your going. If i agree we'll go up together. If we disagree, then i'll go with you in your half, and we'll go with me in my half - just watch my shorts'.

Makes it easier for them - i mean, what happens if one went one way; the other, the other? They get assessed as a team as well remember/to inform you, so if they don't work together, they will find themselves down at grass roots in a short time. Getting £25 a game on a cold sunday morning, with crap standards, or getting £330+ a game, with hospitality and a high-standard of football - which would you rather, and would you take your time with a flag to stay there.

It's all shit, but they have to look smart and professional or they get fucked over by the lovely FA.

But Swindon won, who cares about the referee and his two kids. They didn't cost us a goal, a red card, a suspension, and it doesn't sound like they made too many (or any) controversial decisions. Forget about the weak kid, look forward to tuesday and a 5-0 win...

I bet we have conceded most injury time goals aswel though? And possibly given away most points from winning positions? Can't help but think all those silly points dropped with late goals given away, we could realistically be top. Oh well can't complain, this season has been something out of my wildest dreams so far. We have lost the least games in the league along with Leeds and Charlton, we are joint hardest to beat, can't ask for much more, especially after losing a 32 goal striker and getting dicked 5-0 in our first game. What a turn around.

Thought we were fucking great today, some of our passing in the second half was immense. There was one move with about 30 passes which ended with a shot by Ferry. Dont forget we were playing a Carlisle side that had just beaten Leeds and tonked MK 5-0. I actually thought Carlisle were one of the better teams that have come here this season, some of their passing in the first half was very good.

Due to VIP the south oxfordshire reds were depleted (only 4 of us instead of the usual 20 or so). We did try to sing a few times but not a single person within eyesight joined in, in fact some people were looking at us like we were fucking aliens. I have to admit at one point i lost my temper and shouted about getting behind the team instead of sitting there like lemons. Shame

One more thing I thought we saw out the game very professionally today, no panic whatsoever.

oh and one more thing :) I reckon today was the strongest bench in years for us. Smith. Lescinel. Morrison. Ritchie. Easton. Timlin. Pericard. Was great to see them all slot in nicely. Pericard missed a couple of easy chance but generally his first touch and passing was excellent plus me and everyone around me had a great sight of the goal line clearance from his shot and it looked a good yard over the line.

It was all a bit flat today. ???

The result is all that matters i suppose.

My view, rocky start, but we played them off the park.  Some of the passing moves were superb.  The move that ended with Billy heading wide was excellent.  They just looked baffled.  Carlisle are not a bad side and we destroyed them, never looked like anything but a victory.

Ward I thought was the only player I could pick out as not being on top of his game.  He got a bit central towards the end and twice took the ball of Charlies toe when Charlie would have buried it.

We really are good.

Oh and the ref was a shit.  Its traditional that I say that, but thing just pissed me off about him.  Such as a sudden decision to blow up when we were attacking because one of there players claimed a head injury, and then restarted with a free kick to them which he hadn't blow up for in the first place.

Anyone closer to the stratton bank able to tell me what Carlisle players were getting all fucked off about when one of them fell over before a free kick?

Sheehan was the main hoofer, seemed to take him about 20 minutes to settle back in.

i didn't see hardly any hoofs.a fair few long passes,but we didn't play hoof ball.and ward was superb first half.granted he wasn't as effective in the second, but no way was he off his game.

A competent performance today. Carlisle were made to look fairly ordinary, but they have done well recently. Our lads were just too fucking strong for them.

As has been said already, we didn't really need to change gear today. All departments ran like a chinese sewing machine. No drama, no panic, just a well oiled display of disciplined and creative football.

Not getting carried away - there is a long way to go, and anything could happen in terms of injuries or suspensions - but this season is fucking ace entertainment :D

It was one of those OK games that we didn't look likely to lose.

i was at that end of the DRS and it was a bit of jostling for the free-kick goin on and GG shoved their player in the throat/head and he went down....luckily neither the ref or lino saw it otherwise GG would have walked for raised hands although contact was minimal......ironically, GG got injured from the resulting free kick....karma comes around quickly these days

on the subject of the game, we looked well in control and was a comfortable performance....be interested to see how many other teams come here and try only playing one up front as this gives us the initiative early on....i keep thinking we're due a blip but no sign of it yet....6 weeks ago, I thought that we'd just dip out of the play offs, now I'm thinking we're good enough to finish top two based upon the same starting 11 that played yest....as many have no doubt said, injuries/suspensions would cost us so lets hope we've got luck on our side for the run in....

just an observation, but if DW thought by switching ward and jpm we could get at the ageing ian harte it didn't work.....we were getting joy down both flanks in the 1st half so if it aint broke......

Just add my two pennuth, it wasn't the greatest of games, atmosphere was a bit shit (pity the Town End couldn't have responded when those little kids who were on the pitch at half time started chanting Danny Wilsons red army!) but it was a thoroughly professional performance and with a bit more luck we would have had four or five.  Carlisle weren't the worst of teams to visit the CG but we did make them look a bit ordinary after the first ten minutes or so.  Thought Sheehan's return really tightened things up again at the back although he doesn't get forward like Lescinel.  Lucas responded when he had to and made a couple of good saves, suppose the substitutions were fairly obvious but it would have been nice for Matt Ritchie to have got 20 minutes or so, but needs must as they say.  Although Carlisle were already a beaten time by the time Greer went off, Morrison seemed to slip effortlessly in when he came on.  Easton too deserved his half hour and showed he he is useful player to have in the squad,

After seeing Easton and Morrison slot in like they had been playing week in and week out for us, I am some what less worried about injuries and suspension.

Defo agree with this. All of those that came on yesterday did not look out of place. Easton and Morrison didn't put a foot or head wrong, and I like the fact that even with our goal machines playing we have Pericard who gives us yet another dimension up front and is bound to open his account sooner than later !

The boy Austin never ceases to amaze me. He has this natural killer instinct for goal that I haven't seen at Swindon for a long, long time. Every time he gets the ball, you can feel the excitement in the ground. It's fucking superb!

I'm starting to believe we're gonna go up automatic.

Greer and Cuthbert were as usual, solid as a rock. Reminds me of the Taylor/Calderwood days!

They went 4-5-1, it did exactly what it said on the tin, they were good in midfield, but ineffective up front. Carlisle didnt look a bad team, but I dont think Swindon really had to break sweat to win yesterday. If we score in the first half then the results just seem to be a formality, I cant praise our current back 5 enough. Absolutely top class. We were on everyone's home banker betting tips against Carlisle and that shows the respect our side is getting from outside Swindon.

Shame Pericard couldnt score the chance that Austin laid on a plate for him. Fingers crossed he gets a goal soon. I think he is improving with each appearance, but still nowhere near taking the shirt off Austin or Paynter. Be interesting to hear what the Carlisle fans thought of how he played?

Fans were very quiet again. Has to be said that this time 18 months ago the crowd could be extremely critical of the players. They werent affraid to be vocal when all they had to say was negative, but now we have one of the best teams in the league the same people are not being vocal with praise. The DRS is full every week and fans seem to be too embaressed or intimidated to support the team. Im hoping the next season the Town End will be full, which will open up a bit more space in the DRS and fans will start giving the side some support again. But to be honest, a lot of the time the fans in the south stand dont even apprieciate a good pass or tackle which makes me wonder what they do know about football?

We won at a canter yesterday. But with a more vocal home atmosphere I think the players would really step up the urgency and thrash these sides. We could do with the extra goals as well.

A few have said about Pericard's chance from that Austin ball but I have to say with a good view from the Town End it just came off the Carlisle players foot and diverted the ball before Pericard made contact thus throwing him off and eventually leading to the ball hitting the other Carlisle player and going out for a corner. Without that touch it was a certain goal. The chance that went off the line was just unlucky. I thought Pericard caused them all sorts of problems when he came on.

We were bloody good yesterday. The front two are on some kind of record streak surely 25 between them I make it in the last 15 league games. Surely a partnership to rival Parkin & Mooney, & hopefully one to last into next season too.
With the top two losing & drawing its looking a lot better for an auto place. If we can win the games we should do we can do it. To me the most crucial games will be Norwich at Home. If we can beat them & get a draw (or better) against the likes of ColU, Leeds, & Millwall we will be getting very close.
The thing that gives me cionfidence is that we seem to be playing our best against the more fancied sides now, but still taking care of the more average sides.

I wondered why you lot was a bit quiet yesterday,me and a few around us tried to join in but it never really got going did it,there was a guy right down at the bottom giving it some aswell but the ones around him just looked at him as if he was nuts.

He seemed to have a bit of an off day, ball not rolling for him, picking the wrong option etc. But the way he created the chance that was cleared off the line was excellent, so I can forgive and forget the rest. He didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as Austin which is a bit of a worry, though I'd be more than happy to see him starting a game. Nice to have such a good option on the bench for a change.

I had to put someone in their place again yesterday after he persisted in slagging off Pericard and generally whinging as if we were getting beat.  It's becomming a bit to common now, having to tell fellow "fans" to shut the fuck up.

I had Captain Obvious stood behind me yesterday - I swear he must coach a kids team, the way he yells his tips and observations to the players.

Perricard was shit yesterday. I just laughed, we were 2-0 up and he just had one of those games.

I've not been much in the last couple of seasons for reasons I won't bore you with but the difference between a couple of years ago or even a year ago and now is just night and day. I think perhaps a few people who have been a lot more than I have, and to whom the change has been more gradual, do not appreciate that. We really look like a proper team and the passing was a joy to behold. The defence was absolutely rock solid and it's hard to understand, based on that performance, why they have conceded so many late goals.

What really stood out for me was the almost total lack of 'hoofing' from start to finish which is why I am somewhat taken aback at the above comment, especially with regards to Sheehan :eek:

Basically, there are no negatives whatsoever from that performance. Yes, it would have been nice if they had upped the tempo and created a few more chances but then again if we can beat a team like Carlisle without getting out of second (or maybe third) gear then that's fine by me.

For the record, I could not see anything wrong with Cuthbert getting MOTM. He had a great game. Who was there who was that much more deserving than him? Also for the record, Pericard was not shit. He was unlucky to have a great effort cleared off the line and has a hell of a lot of potential and I am sure will have a key role to play between now and the end of the season.

That was a very, very comfortable, competent victory. A top two place is definitely attainable.

Seems first goal decides it all. We haven't won a game we conceded first in. Given we have scored first 66% of the time its not a problem, but that is not always going to be the case.

I didn't phrase is well. Still feel he had a shit game IMHO. To back that up-  he failed to play in Austin, missed a sitter (touch or no touch from the defender), was greedy on a couple of other occasions and to prove it was one of those games - when he did get it right the defender cleared off the line.

BUT...

I don't think he is a shit player, far from it. He is big, strong and when he gets some game time, and a goal will come, he will be a valuable asset to us in the run in. He's unfortunate because you can't drop Paynter or Austin for him.

Matt Ritchie has the same problem in that Ward is playing blinders right now.

One more thing, thought Carlisle brought very decent support considering their position in the table and obviously the distance.

Looking at their forum, one poster said we are the best team they have played all season and could well still go up automatic.

They also think that Pericard saved their managers job. They were averaging 1.7 points a game with Pericard, and now 0.95 points a game without him. Basically he was a lifeline for them and he cant get near a first team spot at Swindon, which shows our strength in depth.

pericard had a game where nothing went for him.on another day he would have scored and got an assist i reckon.

I think extra credit has to go to Cuthbert & Greer for the way they thought about how Carlisle had set themselves up and took advantage of it. Not many teams that I have seen this season have kept our full backs so quiet - Carlisle obviously saw this area of our team as a threat as that is often the starting point for our attacks, and were very quick to close them down. This left a bit more space in the middle for Greer & Cuthbert to run into, once they had got past their no7. Both did this effectively, Cuthbert got a free kick in a dangerous area & Greer set up the goal. Cuthbert fully deserved MoM in my opinion, even with an injured shoulder, he still won everything both in the air and on the ground, although Greer, Douglas & the front 2 could also have got it.
As Wilson said afterwards, it wasn't a great performance, but we did the job effectively & professionally against a team that were nowhere near the worst we have faced this season.
And a mention must go to Morrison who looked very solid when he came on too after not playing (at least for us) for ages.
This needs to be our year.....
