Title: Weddings and Funerals
Post by: Doore on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 00:28:30
Without going in to details, as a 25 year old man, I'm feeling rather hard done by.  On Friday I will be attending my fourth funeral of someone close to me.  In contrast, I've only ever been to two weddings, and I was too young to remember one of them (and I've not seen the couple since).  This kind of ratio seems unfair to me, am I right or am I just feeling sorry for myself?

Not a pledge for pity, just interested in people's views and experiences.

Every couple has one wedding and two funerals (apart from these greedy gits who do vow renewal and that sort of rubbish)

2:1 ratio seems not far off, thinking about my own life, it may just be an age thing, I'm at a point in my life were my own generation aren't quite ready to marry yet but my grandparents/great-grandparents are looking a bit dodgy.

And if that isn't a morbid thought, who knows what is.

At 25 I'd been to one non family wedding.

At 30 I've lost count, the ratio will right itself over the next decade I should think.

The good news, you've got a lot of great piss ups to look forward to.

The bad, you've got a lot of presents, hotels and dry cleaning bills to pay for.

I'm 24 or 23, can't remember right now. 1 funeral 0 weddings. Small family.

First wedding this summer. Should be awesome as the Stag involves driving a boat around the Norfolk Broads for a few days, getting battered. Hopefully nobody will drown, and we won't crash too much. Its crazy to think that someone of the same age as me is getting married though.

Really dont think about it. Will be going to another funeral soon and it's made me realise how unimportant most of the stuff I worry about is.

I couldn't agree more, I actually nodded my head like a simpleton while reading that.  Funerals really put daily life in to perspective.

yeah it's certainly true. This will be the third I will have gone to in three and a half years. Two of those people were around 50. Makes me think I haven't been happy in three or so years, life's too short and im wasting it by being bitter and miserable

34 years old and probably been to fifteen funerals and five weddings.  Of those fifteen funerals I think ten have been my age or younger at the time.

Who wants to be my friend?

I think you're just getting into the swing of the weddings. Between 25 and about 32 we had at least a couple a year.

In the last 3 years, including this one coming, I would have been to 4 weddings. No funerals though.

Does this mean I'm going to have a run of funerals to attend. Gulp.

I'm 31 and been to about 10 weddings already. Got six this year, inclouding my own.

Been to about five funerals, two of which were for people under the age of 25, which kind of puts any worries into context. The sight of one mum collapsing at her son's funeral (died in a car crash) will haunt me forever.

At 26 I've not been to many of either.

4 Weddings - All of which took place before I was 13.

2 Funerals.

I wouldnt class the reception as the actual wedding if that makes sense.

Getting married fucks up your relationship (from experience). Plus they are ridiculously expensive. Stay single and shack up and spend what you would have done on getting hitched on enjoying yourselves in sin instead.

Funerals are sad but inevitable.
