Title: POTS
Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, December 28, 2009, 22:39:58
Not a topic about cooking utensils but with this looking like being a great season its going to be bloody hard to choose a Player of the season. Lucas has been almost perfect, Cuthbert looks brilliant, Douglas and JPM are running the show in Midfield and of course up front Ben Hutchinson has been superb. Of course I jest about Hutchinson, Austin and Paynter are lethal up front.

Going to be some top 3 at this rate.

If I had to pick a top 3 right now it would be

JPM
Cuthbert
Douglas

Douglas

Douglas for me.

After that you could pick any from Cuthbert, JPM, Lucas, Ferry, Paynter and Manky. If Austin keeps going like he is he will be in the mix as well.

Its quite funny, after the Brighton game on the way out I was speaking to an old fella about our players and I mentioned how good Douglas is in the middle of the park. He looked at me and said 'our lads don't like him'. Guess this is the moany group in the DRS. I switched off after that as he clearly didn't have a clue what he was on about.

For me at present Cuthbert. He just does his 'job', no nonsense, excellent defender, and signing of the season. Close behind would be douglas. We definately missed him when banned.

Douglas
Cuthbert
Paynter

with JPM and Lucas not far behind. Douglas is the midfielder we've been missing for the best part of 15 years. Cuthbert is pure quality and is getting better - another Fridge. Wilson is accumulating a fine squad and more importantly I think it is a lot easier for Town to attract new players now - we're a much better proposition.
Then again if Austin carries on as he is then he'd get POY.

Cuthbert
Paynter
Douglas

JPM most improved by a mile, brilliant season thus far

Agreed.

If Austin carries on as he is he'll win it. Industry doesn't seem to win awards, when another player is smashing goals in.

It's still very hard to pick at the moment though. I'd have to say JP, but then JP wouldn't be quite the player he is without players like Douglas behind him, who is also one of the many. Then Cuthbert has been quality, along with Paynter and Ferry.

I was hoping this was gonna be a discussion about some fine snooker shots.

As it is, it's one of the more pointless hypotheticals to be pondered for some time.

JPM
Cuthbert
Douglas/Paynter

Same as some have said but hard to leave Paynter out as hes been fantastic!

Title: Re: POTS

JPM
Cuthbert
Douglas

JPM is having a hell of a season, Cuthbert look a bargain buy and will make us some cash when he goes up a level, Douglas I expected to be good and he is.

Paynter is playing very well, but did have a mid first half of the season dip so misses out. Austin hasn't been here long enough to be 'POTS so far'. Ferry has been good too but just misses out.

Douglas

I agree with most of what has been written, JP is like a new signing, Cuthbert will turn out to be the steal of the year, Douglas is superb (thought he was just a bit off the pace yesterday at times) and to think there were threads on here slamming Paynter this time last year!!  If we could sign Sheehan full time he will turn out another good 'un. However, if he keeps scoring goals there is no doubt the winner will be Charlie, not necessarily deserved, but try telling that to the CG faithful.  Sadly we seem to have a history of player of the season winners moving on in the close season!!

talking of JPM, I was his biggest critic last year and would have been happy to see the back of him last summer but I have to take my hat off to him (and DW for bringing out the best in him) and deserves all the praise he has been getting and in recognition of this he is worthy of a song...

he's here, he's there
he's every fookin where, JPM, JPM

Cuthbert
Douglas
Lucas

JPM, Paynter, Austin and Ferry all close behind.

the sign of a great manager.

Cuthbert for me followed by Douglas then Paynter.
Lucas for me the most influential, good keeper and has made a few stunning saves.
Amankwah the most improved..JPM showing at last what we all knew he had.
I have to be honest and say i wasnt a Paynter fan and was happy when he was rested/dropped...Austin has helped him and Paynter is starting to bully defenders and still is young enough to improve greatly.

If Austin keeps playing the way he is, he will win it with a landslide. Maybe not fair on three or four other players but that's the way it is - a local lad from the depths of non-league who becomes an overnight goal scoring machine will always walk away with the awards.

Though to be fair to Austin, he's far from just a goal scorer and his all round play is pretty good.

paynter has done better than austin

Title: Re: POTS
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, 16:44:34
JPM
Cuthbert
Douglas

Bloody hell as others have said you can't forget contributions from Paynter, Lucas or even Ferry either. That's 6 players that I would say would be in with a shout. If Austin was to maintain his form for the rest of the season then that would be 7. Crazy. Just goes to show what a season we are having.

Douglas for me-the single most significant reason for our improvement this season.Closely followed by Paynter then McGovern.I think Amankwah has improved this season an' all.

McGovern is being watched by at least 2 clubs in the league above.

He is one we should be offering a deal to right now. He could play in either division.

Not at all Samdy just think that he is playing superb and is out of contract in the summer and no doubt teams will be interested. Not much loyalty in football and some of the stick he has taken(myself included) may be on his mind when making a decision on contracts.

If you look at my posts right from the begining of the season i have said that i can see a grant smith scenario happening with Jpm

the 'league above' being scotland? swap deal for ferry at the mighty hoops?? although I'd be disappointed, JD and Ferry in the spine of the team have been superb and I'm sure we'd be able to replace JPM with a younger equivalent version??
