Title: Match of the Day Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:27:11 Is it just me, or does anyone else enjoy Match of the Day more when we've had a good win that afternoon? I have to admit I'm not that in to Premiership football. (When I open the sports section of the Sunday papers I'll gravitate to the lower leagues first, then the Championship, and then I'll take a look at the Premiership.) But I'm likely to watch it from start to finish if we won earlier on.
I don't know any of the Premiership scores from today, so no one spoil it please. Gary promised a cracking show before the news. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Langers on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:29:23 Yeh i know what you mean, this is also true with the football league show (even apart from our game because if we have won then i alos seem to enjoy the championship and lg 2 more aswell.
And yes it should be pretty good tonight. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Arriba on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:36:03 it makes no difference to me, and i read the prem gossip first.
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: donkey on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:43:04 That was a superb tackle from Carragher. Sent off for winning the ball. Still, fuck it we won 4-1!
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Langers on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:44:56 Yeh, doesnt 3 points make everyone happy!
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Arriba on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:45:40 i'm more interested in finding out how my dream team players did than anything else.
usually really good at it, but having a poorish season this. rafa the luckiest manger in historys luck is running out it seems by the way. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:53:26 I drive up the M61 from time to time north out of Manchester, and Bolton's ground looks Mickey Mouse to me from the outside. Really don't like the look of it from the inside either.
Samuel deserved to go there. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Langers on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 22:55:49 Yeh apparantly it was quite even until then
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Freddies Ferret on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 23:02:38 that last chelsea goal was fooking ace!
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 23:05:50 That's a lot of goals Pompey have scored in the last week. Still think they're doomed, mind.
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Arriba on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 23:08:44 and their goal mouths are slopey as fook.i know ours are, but theirs rise considerably more i reckon
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 23:15:10 I told the Spurs fan I know at work that I thought his lot would do Arsenal today.
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: chalkies_shorts on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 00:00:28 that last chelsea goal was fooking ace! and was offside but because it was Chelsea then it was OK.Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: adje on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 00:10:54 Yeah and what about fucking Man Ushited getting away with it again-cunts!
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Doore on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 00:18:03 Still up as I'm waiting for our goals on the football league show. Watched Match of the Day - it was quite dull. The football league is definitely more entertaining.
Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: chalkies_shorts on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 00:22:24 All the big teams get away with it - its what the Premiership is all about. Watch the ref for Fulham v Pool get demoted shortly.
Its all about the big 4 and fuck the rest until we get a big 5 or 6 - but at the moment its a big 4. If Danny Wilson said the same things as Fergie he'd be out of the game. Everything possible is done to stroke their egos and wipe their arses. Cunts. Answer from Steve Claridge: No. I think we've all got used to the comfort of all seater stadia recently. Claridge is a fucking idiot. Anyone who was at Brentford will vouch for this. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: spike19 on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 00:39:44 Just put football league show on. Have i missed our goals yet?

Followed by the "everyone's been taken by surprise by Southend going into administration, no-one knew they had financial problems". Apart from their fans, and most people on here. And probably anyone else who was paying half a whit of attention. That's not just Claridge though - very few pundits, even the "Football League experts" seem to have a damn clue what goes on below the Championship. Answer from Steve Claridge: No. I think we've all got used to the comfort of all seater stadia recently. Claridge is a fucking idiot. Anyone who was at Brentford will vouch for this. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 01:34:33 Still up as I'm waiting for our goals on the football league show. Watched Match of the Day - it was quite dull. The football league is definitely more entertaining. As much as I love Match of the Day, the BBC paying £170m over 3 years for the rights is a shocking use of the license fee. Especially when for £260m over 3 years they could have got exclusive rights to the Football League and League Cup giving them over 100 live matches a season - bearing in mind a lot more people support teams and go to matches in the Football League. I doubt any of the other free to air channels would have paid anything like that sum of money for Premier League highlights and they'd probably have got a better deal from the Football League for the increased coverage. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 01:57:26 That was a superb tackle from Carragher. Sent off for winning the ball. Still, fuck it we won 4-1! Straight red for me. He might have won the ball in the end but he'd already committed the foul by climbing all over Zamora and holding him back. Strong argument that he should have gone for the earlier challenge as well. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool challenge it. If they do and the result in anything other than an increased ban it will just reinforce the view that we got shafted over Douglas. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: DMR on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 02:07:20 Not even a debate about it, disappointing. It's a highlights programme you complete tool. You're thinking of fucking Question Time. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: axs on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 08:42:44 It's a highlights programme you complete tool. You're thinking of fucking Question Time. Then why bother talking about it at all cuntchops? If you're going to bring the subject up then at least spend 30 seconds on it. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Bennett on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 11:42:50 That was a superb tackle from Carragher. Sent off for winning the ball. Still, fuck it we won 4-1! i think he was sent off for his initial rape instead of the tackle where he wins the ball, oh and the fact the general consensus is he raped poor ol mikey owen last week Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: dell boy on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 11:49:48 Great programme last night, I would love to have Hanson/Shearers job, a maximum of 2 minutes work between them and they get to see a game free every week and paid a fortune.
Hull/Brown when you are down nothing goes your way - the last one to leave please turn off the lights. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Langers on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 11:51:20 Hull were very unlucky - crap decision from the ref to disallow the free kick

Did you know that a wether is actually a castrated sheep or goat? We'll now you do know and so you can get back to match of the day feeling just a little more knowledgeable. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 14:09:34 "wether" is a word that has caught me out from time to time. Did you know that a wether is actually a castrated sheep or goat? We'll now you do know and so you can get back to match of the day feeling just a little more knowledgeable. Wether is more applied to any sheep in general especially in the West Country. Hence in just about my favourite bit of Wiltshire....around Fyfield Down, you get the Grey Wethers...stones which look a bit like sheep, especially from a distance. I'm a big fan of sarsen stones. Back in the relatively recent past, they'd have been much more numerous, but there are still a few places where they're an impressive sight, and you still can find random blocks around Swindon, although it's difficult to know if they've been moved from somewhere else. I just checked how many live football matches we get at present, this week there is a staggering 34 live matches and that doesn't include any multi-screen, as live coverage or club specific channels (you can double the number if you did include them). That's practically 5 matches a day, I remember when we got 1 a week if we were lucky. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 18:34:46 So Cardiff go top if they win but the stadium looks half empty.

Best way to deal with the dissapointment is to try and kid yourself you are not really bothered.(whereas if we win tend to embrace everything, highlights, MOTD, tables, crowds etc etc) Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Bob's Orange on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 18:59:24 So Cardiff go top if they win but the stadium looks half empty. http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/img_fullsize/72623.jpg There was once an impressive monolith on the triangle of land between Marlborough Road and Broome Manor Lane....I've always thought it must have some link to Day House Lane. Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: leefer on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 19:23:00 Nice pic Reg...ive always wondered how many people know when they are playing golf that there was once a great mansion there with acres of grounds...ive hunted for a picture or a painting of it but never been able to find one...all that is left is an old stone column near the entrance of the clubhouse.

I suspect you can't find owt about a manor house Leefer, because there wasn't one :) A manor in medieval terms could apply to an area of land...in the case of Broome, the manor was held until the 13th Century after The Conquest by a French abbey at Martigny. Late in the 13th century it passed to the priory at Monkton Farleigh, when it was reported to be a caracute in extent...roughly 120 acres. The manor eventually ended up bought by the Goddards in the early 19th Century, about the same time as the 10 foot high Longstone and as reported by Aubrey an associate stone row, were broken up, to be used for paving stones in Cricklade. :( Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: Arriba on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 22:37:09 i'm guessing in the most recentish years before the creation of the golf course it was pasture land for grazing cows?
there is the odd trough in the hedgerows around the course still. never really thought of broome manor as a manor.was there really a grand mansion there many years ago? where abouts was it? Title: Re: Match of the Day Post by: leefer on Sunday, November 1, 2009, 23:11:32 Thats strange Reg....i was led to believe there was a house...but you could be right as there is nothing about it at all anyware.
