Title: Charlton Near Administration Post by: STFC_Gazza on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 14:31:49 The Grim Reaper Strikes again.
£40M in debt..... guess only 3 seasons ago they were in the Premier League... http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12072009/58/league-charlton-brink-reports.html Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: Nemo on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 14:35:44 Crazy how they were the model only three, four years ago.
I bet the fans who thought Curbishley had taken them as far as he could and needed to go are feeling a touch foolish now. Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: STFC_Gazza on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 15:31:45 Should have known Charlton were in trouble when they named Phil Parkinson permanent manager despite them not winning any of the games (8) when he was temporarily in charge.

Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 16:38:24 Bloody hell !! how on earth was that allowed to get to such a substantial amount. I'd imagine a good chunk of it is a mortgage on their ground - that accounted for over £25m of Southampton's debt. Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: suttonred on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 16:46:33 Wouldn't have thought so, the grounds been pretty much the same for years, with no major construction or expansion.
Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: pauld on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 17:01:44 The Beeb were reporting earlier this week they were close to a takeover, has this collapsed now then? Or is this just the usual piss and wind in the run-up to a potentially controversial takeover - "accept this deal or we go into admin/bust/to Milton Keynes" (in descending order of awfulness)?
Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, July 12, 2009, 17:02:54 Yeah it's collpased apparently.
Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: Power to people on Monday, July 13, 2009, 14:04:11 Collapsed apparently due to due dilligence unveiling more debt that first thought

I bet the fans who thought Curbishley had taken them as far as he could and needed to go are feeling a touch foolish now. What it shows is just how important it is to get the right manager and stick with him. Charlton were held up for years as an example of how a club should be run, and rightly so. All of that coincided with Curbishley doing a great job as manager though. As soon as he went they started making mistakes all over the place. Fitton and co got a lot of things right when they first ook over, but most of it was overshadowed by the appointment of Malpas. Hopefully now we have a proven manager in charge, they will get more of a return from their other good moves. Title: Re: Charlton Near Administration Post by: Doore on Monday, July 13, 2009, 22:56:01 Been said before, but I used to laugh at Charlton fans on phone-ins saying "Curbishley must go, we'll never get beyond eighth in the premier league with him in charge." I hope they are feeling suitably proud now. A lesson in knowing your place and matching your ambitions to it.

Didn't O'Leary get sacked for finishing 3rd in the league and making the semi's of the Champions League? |
