Are these clips from that goals collection video that was released around about the Prem season?

What's Andy Rowland up to these days?

Yes they are, most are on other videos but there are a few like these ones which you don't see very often.

I thought he was running a pub nearish swindon, could be wrong though.

Fantastic game that day we walked all over them in front of the MOTD cameras, huge crowd much more than what the official figure was of 16,500ish.

Great goal by Handy Andy, was a contender for BBC goal of the month/

Anday was running the Royal Oak in Old Town until fairly recently I think.

Is it a video called Swindon Town - Golden goals selection? If so, I have it, Paul Bodin and Micky Hazard on the cover?

It was Golden Goals. They made one for all the teams in the top flight 93/94 season (I think)

Yes, it was the golden goals one, lucky they chose the season we were in the premiership to do them.

He's run the Plough in Old Town for years. If you want to get served then best not mention the Scouse Chuckle Brothers.

I had that video but I lost it. Probably swapped it for something else whilst under the influence. Charlie Henry vs the Gills was the best goal on that video.

Thanks to the internet and youtube I dont miss that video as much as I might have.

I found the other goal from this match on an old Danny Baker video i was converting to DVD tonight so thought i'd pop it on here for people to see, it's a Ross Jenkin's own goal which put us 1 up in the match.

Happy days....I had a terrible dilemma for that game...go to match or dirty weekend with hot bird.

Back then it wasn't announced too early who was on MOTD, but the Beeb needed a car park full of trucks, a couple of days in advance to put it on, so I knew I could sort of do both.... :)

Thanks Bedford. It was only Andy Rankin in goal for Watford that day,who kept the score respectable.

I don't suppose you've got Colin Prophett's late winner against Shrewsbury in 76, also on MOTD?

Unfortunately not, i'm always searching round for new stuff though so if i find that i'll pop it on here.

I did get footage recently of the 1970 5th round cup win against Scunthorpe, only 5 mins and in black and white but still good so when i get a sec i'll pop it on this site.

I think Keegan scored for Scunny in that game? Shankly quickly signed him up.

Ha!  I don't believe you just posted this.  Fantastic.

It was that season I fell in love with the Town.   This game, maybe my favourite of all time, tho I have many others.

Also, I see Andy Rowland in Old Town all the time.  I don't know him particularly, but we say hello to each other.  I have never told him he was one of my idols when playing for the Town.

He is a very nice bloke.
Always seems keen to talk football...looking back i am suprised no team came in for him when he was scoring for fun with Mayes.

Shortest MOTD feature ever...highlights consisted of the KO.. half time whistle..and The Prof nodding in...

Trollope, Horsfield and Noble scored for us, apparantly N Cassidy scored for Scunthorpe according to this

Wasn't there a match v Shrewsbury on the box that ended in a drab 0-0?

Thanks for the correction.I believe Keegan played and they scored infront of the Town End,
in which some Scunny fans celebrated.

It was so bad the BBC put on show jumping during MOTD and then the Town game against Shrewsbury.

Fortunately,a Colin Phrophett diving header won the game very, very late on.It wasn't a game to
be remembered.

The previous saturday, we got thumped at Elm Park 4- 1 in the pouring rain.Loads and loads of trouble that day at the ground and in the surrounding streets. We broke the gates down to get out of the away end.

In the 70's there was a big crew from Newbury who used to follow the Town.I don't know if
Sutton Red knew any of them?

Although i was a young schoolboy at the time, every away match that i got to they seemed to be
there, whether it was at Bournemouth,West Ham (FA Cup) Crystal Palace,Aldershot,Pompey and
Reading, they were always there in force.

Quality.  This was my first ever game (just short of my 6th birthday).  I was in the North Stand.  I remember seeing this on the Golden Goals video referred to and being a little bit disappointed to find out that my memory of Andy Rowland's goal was significantly more impressive than the reality!!  Nice finish though.

The first Swindon Town goal I witnessed was a Darren Beckford own goal. Consider yourself lucky!

maybe 10 or 20 years ago, not so much 30 years ago as we had a few fantastic crowds in 80 when we had 26k for Spurs, 26k for Wolves and 22k for Arsenal at home. Not league crowds but still pretty good.

The capacity was reduced not much after that....if the ground was bigger, then there's been a few games during the intervening years where we could have posted a tidy crowd..

Thats very true, wasnt it put down to 18,750 ish about 2 or 3 years after that?

I have no doubt that we could have been well into the 20K+ crowds many times since then if we had the capacity allowed.

I must admit that for the Spurs and Wolves games when we had 26k in the ground I would have put money on it being closer to 30k as it was cram packed in every stand for those games.

Was that Watford goal a bit of footage shot from the North stand?

Always been suprised that the TV ever used to use the Shrivenham road position given the obstructions.

I remember there being a shed load of spurs fans coming down to get tickets when they went on sale. I also remember a few if them in the queue to get in the Town End with spurs shirts on.

We were in the Town End (in the middle at the back) before kick off when it all kicked off. As a you g lad we got a but of a slapping until a few of our more colourful fans joined in the festivities.

One other memory from that day was a spurs fan who got kicked out of the Town End was wearing pyjamas.

I do remember the Spurs supporter in his stripey japamas, and as Posh says they didn't bother even hiding their team colours.

Brilliant atmosphere that day as every time the ground was packed out to the max.

I had forgotten about the fire that day but it comes back now...."Swindons burning, Swindons burning...etc"

Was dodgy...as was the midweek replay at Everton...Andersons scores to put us in the lead...as per usual two late Everton goals beat us.
Atmosphere that night was electric.

Sounds like Spurs. We went one up with a McHale penalty and then they bring on George Armstrong and he pings in a couple. Again a good atmosphere but Spurs fans were fucking horrible and the Old Bill were even worse. I never made the Everton game - did the home one.
