Title: G20 Protests
Post by: Spy on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, 10:10:46
Today is the day it all goes down. The City is basically shutdown.

Will there be a full scale riot or will the police be able to prevent that. Basically something is gonna kick off but will be interesting to see to what extent. There is a lot of anger over the massive bail out of the banks which we are all gonna pay for and imo its right that people should express this anger.

Bollocks - just a load of fucking spoilt students with nothing better to do and some "extreme" pillocks that are just looking for something to put their name against........

Lock the fucking lot of 'em up if they step out of line......

eugh - what exactly will protesting achieve? - you cant undo something thats already been done? - most them them look like a load of old hippys that could do with having a wash and getting a job anyway - probably dont even pay taxes - I think some people just liek ahvign aprotest for the sake of it so it can feel like the olden days

Im more interested in what Michelle Obama is wearing! ;)

Protesting got rid of Diamandis in the end, so in our case it achieved an awful lot.

If the people want to protest, then let them.  I love it, the million strong anti-war protest was brilliant.  I really should go along to one of these protests one day, let's hope there's a people's protest against the way the MP's abuse their power,  I wouldn't mind joining in that.

And the "what's protesting going to achieve" well I'm glad that some Town fans protested a year or so ago, okay we may not have even played a part in what actually happened (or maybe we did) but it was good to let the old board what we felt.

Power (but not too much) to the people!!

Very little to note at Waterloo this morning.  Although I did see someone wearing dredlocks.

Sections of the press are going to be gutted if the 'violent protests' don't materialise.

Not as gutted as the police will be. They've been building up the testosterone for month. They need to crack some hippy skulls today or some badly parked motorist will get a kicking when they get back to their beat.

Luckily the overtime will soften it a bit.

We've been told to avoid going to our London office if possible, but if needs must to use the security entrance.

Nobody seems to have bothered me today so I assume they're not in the office which makes my day a little easier.

Protest away hippies :)

Ah but apparently he's an "anarcho-capitalist" not a proper anarchist, and most of the protests are anti-capitalists, not TT-style ultra-capitalists. So presumably, the proper anarchists will be chucking bricks at the coppers, the anarcho-capitalists will be selling them the bricks

Well I admire the people willing to get off their arses and protest,I do think that any message has been diluted because no one seems to be that sure what they are protesting about and sometimes these things seems to be attended by the same load of scruffy herberts. But its all good and I hope at least 1 Macdonalds get wrecked .

The only people who actually agree about why there are there are the ones determined to kick off.

The was some small scale trouble with the police on sky news an hour ago.

A couple of choice quotes from the guardian blog:

Quote
One man wandering past as I was coming in, was in full City pinstripe and told a policeman standing outside that he had decided to 'dress as offensively as possible

Quote
City workers waved £10 notes at protesters as they passed their offices. It must be a recession - those would have been £50 notes a few years back.

Protestors smashed windows of RBS went in side and apparently took computer equipment. I would assume they smashed this rather than took it home.

Also said on BBC some protestors got on the roof of RBS but didn't see footage of this.

Although I have heavily slated Brand I don't think its fair to say just cos someone's written a book they can't go to a protest or be into anti-capitalist ideas.

Its not the writing a book bit that makes him a hyporcritical cunt, its selling it for a profit.

As the branch was closed and there were no staff in there, I think you've been sold a pup there Dazza. And p2p, BoE is fine, there were a couple of windows broken at RBS and some internal damage - couple of hard drives nicked according to the Beeb.

i was in london yesterday so thought i would wander up to the city to take in some rioting. was very disapointed in the standard of rioting, basically was all middle class students with too much to lose to really let go. shame a good rampage is always fun to watch.
