Title: Best guitar solos Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:14:00 Youtube style, hopefully Dell will love this thread.
I'll kick it off, Slash plays 2 fantastic solos in this, the first is around 4:10 and the second at about 7:25. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbkG6Za6w5s Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:18:06 Slash solos are quality. "Sweet Child Of Mine" is up there with November Rain in my opinion.

Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:20:48 Guitar solos are vastly overated in my humble opinion Well if we're talking about The Kooks then yes they are because they are not really solos. wait till the end-its worth it. Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Bogus Dave on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:24:33 I was talking about in the whole of music ever. I prefer lsitening to the melodys and lyrics than some long haired tatooed sweaty 30 year old playing guitar at 3000mph, but i understand that some people are into that stuff

ignore the vocals. this fucking rocks. 18 and pilled up. fuck off!! Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:39:17 Nice posts Adje. Neil Young proves Dave young and makes him look like a ginger spastic. And Squire is the melody in the Stone Roses, genius.
In fact I'll post another solo which makes an otherwise (in my opinion) ordinary song a masterpiece and it isn't played at 3000mph either (nor were any of the other solos posted though!) Solo at around 4:30, this was improvised, the harmonics are beautiful, the first note is probably an accidental pinched harmonic. Lovely stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkJNyQfAprY Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: yeo on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:44:46 Im with dave, guitar solos make think of poodle rock and vomit.
Give me a guitar jangle anytime. 8) Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:48:04 But is it because they're 3000mph or is it because you find them a bit boring?
Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: yeo on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:51:08 Boring, self indulgent and cringe worthy.
Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 19:52:01 Boring, self indulgent and cringe worthy. There's some logic in your thoughts then. Unfortunately a lot of hair metal Eddie Van Halen copycats were about in the 80s. Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 23:32:44 Got to have a bit of Led Zeppelin, probably one of the best rocks songs and solos ever- Solo at 5:55
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcL---4xQYA And the late Randy Rhoads doing a live performance with solos at the start and around 3 mins. I actually think this is much better than the album version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRbPWcLode0 Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: PHIL!!!! on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 23:45:31 Kirk Hammett is a bit good on the ol' geeetar, it has to be said

Off the top of my head two that I do like are from 'This Is A Low' by Blur, and 'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead, mostly because they are discordant and just don't sound anything like guitar solos are supposed to. 'Ball and Biscuit' by White Stripes has an unwanky solo in it as well I suppose. Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: michael on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 01:12:50 And 'Rattled By The Rush' by Pavement
Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 12:27:37 I personally am a huge music fan, but am not at all into guitar solos. Me too. I appreciate a good riff more than I do a solo. Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Spy on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 15:37:00 Me too. I appreciate a good riff more than I do a solo. Exactly my thoughts when I saw this thread. From bands I'm familiar with I think Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine is very skilled altho still not that hugely into the solos... and some of the Smashing Pumpkins solos come to mind. Not sure whether I think the long feedback solo at the end of Drown is good or wanky. Bit of both maybe? Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 18:21:08 Not a massive fan of guitar solos, but the solo in this is dreamy

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned before, classic, one of my favourite songs of all time solo from 5.20 onwards- gutted it doesn't show all of it!! (I supposed if this thread was on QI I'd have just set of the alarms and lost 25 points) Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: Bennett on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 19:14:13 the end to devils rejects to freebird is amazing

Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 19:45:09 In a similar vein to the wonderful Freebird here's Blackfoot.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTeUdvGQWo0 Alan never heard this before, so I thought I would give you my thoughts during my maiden voyage of listening to it. 0-1 mins - nice start, like the sound of the gi-tar and southern sounding vocals 1-2 mins - I get the feeling this is gonna be pretty good. Feeling the lynyrd skynyrd similarities 2-3 mins - Oh yeah, come on, warming up nicely, feel a i-tunes (spit) purchase coming on 3-4 mins - no you can't lull us into a build up like that and fade, ah picking up again, good work 4-5 mins - Not long now, feeling the repetition of the lyrics, sure sign the solo's in the post, and bingo here it is 5- 7 mins - YEAH!!!!! GET IN!!! LOVING THIS!!! Is the drummer in his pants? With hair on their heads as long as STA & DV's beards (combined) they rock!! 7-9.3 mins - Loved the fake wind downs and the eventual ending!!! Brilliant stuff!!! Brilliant stuff!!! Jan, They did a live album from a UK Tour circa 1982.If you can get hold of that it's simply brilliant. I think i had it on vinyl and it was called 'Highway Song live' or something similar. Here's a taster from a track that appears on the album... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCm3lxe2T78 Title: Re: Best guitar solos Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 20:05:50 Lovin it AM, quality.
