Title: Dream on ...
Post by: wheretherealredsare on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 11:01:03
Remember when AF was trying to take over from the previous mob? He said that PS would be his dream manager, or words to that effect IIRC.

Last night he said “There is one contender that would really surprise people. In some ways it would be the dream appointment, but it might not be the right appointment. We do have to go through the process.’’

Would he, could he, should he come back?

I don't think he would and i wouldn't want him back. Although i think i'd secretly be pretty pleased, better the devil you know and all that. In fact, i can't think of that many i'd be pissed off with, but i know i'd be fucking livid if Dirty Sanchez was our manager.

I think its Fat Sam.

But when he left for Plymouth, he said he was returning to his spiritual home.  Except he already had another spiritual home in Dundee.  I got a bit confused at that point.  How many spiritual homes can one man have?  Maybe Swindon could be his third?

Nothing would be more surprising than me as manager

Therefore he must be talking about me :)

NB - I cannot confirm whether I have had an interview or not at this stage as I am sworn to secrecy :)

Seriously though

Glenn Hoddle is mentioned later on in the report - he was asked for his advice ...

Perhaps he said ... Well Im available if you want me ???? I know he has a school in Spain but this actually runs itself .. Its his in name and he would expected to put in a few shows here and there .. BUT .. he still lives in Ascot .. which says it all.

So there you go .. Perhaps Glenn wants it :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this be true!

Title: Re: Dream on ...
Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 13:39:13
I'm impressed with Fitton. He hasn't allowed fans to get too carried away (Boothroyd, Poyet, Cotterill links essentially killed off) yet still leaves us wondering by dropping little hints.

I read thisis and I'm stunned by some of the suggestions (they are taking the piss right?).

Samuel Allardyce wouldn't come close to STFC, he's one of these "modern" managers and we couldn't afford all the extra things he would want in place... Plus, he could still easily get a semi-high profile job elsewhere.

But if I was to play this game and indeed "dream on" then out of all of the unemployed managers out there who I wish would take interest in the job then, for me, it has to be Alan Curbishley.

When I say Curbishley I'm not saying he's a realistic target, because he's not. But he ticks alot of the boxes that Fitton has listed.

I predict an anti-climax but at least I don't have any pie-in-the-sky ideas that we'll have an out of this world appointment by the end of the year.

John Ward's New Red & White Army........ Hmm....

I agree with Rich Pullen. I won't get too excited.

I don’t think we will ever find out who this “big name” is. I think Ward will be hired and it will come down to “the big name wanted too much money to spend or break the budget etc…”
Out of the names really available lets see….

Allardyce- Would want Premiership job or maybe a club like Reading, Wolves, Birmingham etc that he could take up.
Curbishley – Maybe would drop down to this division who knows?  Has stated he would like to manage in the lower leagues
Keegan – Was out of football and said he wasn’t going back until Newcastle came in, I think to be honest if he doesn’t go back to Newcastle he wont be in football.
Hoddle – Prob wouldn’t manage at this level. Makes more money on TV and football camps. Don‘t really want the Judas back.
Souness – No Thanks two words Ali Dia. And you thought MM’s signings were bad?
Veneables – You are joking?

I think out of all the bigger names Curbishley is about the only one who may take a punt.

I'd love Hoddle to return. I'm too young to remember the disappointment of his departure but I know he gave us one awesome season with awesome football (I know he was manager for a season and a bit longer but you know what I mean)

Hoddle to Chelsea does not mean he was a "Judas". Hoddle to Oxford would equal to being a "Judas".

Title: Re: Dream on ...

Didn't someone text in and say that Hoddle & Hazzard  - not sure if it was true, maybe Fitton was having a discussion him

Nice to see that Fitton has held informal discussions with potential's, just gutted that Boothroyd is out the picture

I've also been told today by someone that didn't know what AF has said that Apparently Big Sam Allardyce has been putting his name aroyund in the last week or so as he is desperate to get back into football.

The more and more I think about it the more I suspect Fitton could be talking about Sanchez - has experience of managing Wycombe & Fulham on a shoestring budget and would be a big name due to international managing NI and was obviously able to motivate them with their big win's - what Fitton has claimed he is looking for, - let's hope that Fitton knows that Sanchez is not welcome at STFC and if he thought fan's were dubious of MM then just wait and see what reaction Sanchez get's he will probably hold the record of the first stfc manager to alienate the fan's before playing a game, and have the fan's calling for his sacking in his first game in charge.

Christ I think I'd even take John Ward over Sanchez and that is saying something

Exclusive: Sam Allardyce poised for Nottingham Forest rescue act
By Ian Ladyman

Nottingham Forest are ready to offer Sam Allardyce a dramatic return to football with current boss Colin Calderwood on the brink of the sack.
Sportsmail understands Forest chairman Nigel Doughty has already opened talks with the former Bolton manager about the City Ground job.
Aidy Boothroyd, Billy Davies and Iain Dowie are also on Forest's short-list but Allardyce is Doughty's first choice to breathe life into the ailing Midlands club.
Allardyce has been aware of Forest's interest for around a month and despite reservations over the amount of money available for transfers, he is now ready to hear what Doughty has to say.

I can't think of any managers, currently employed, that we could get and would blow our socks off. There are a few that could be considered seriously far-fetched possibilities, but none of which would cause me to piss my pants: Russell Slade, Paul Trollope, Colin Calderwood, Martin Ling...

It is nice to hear Fitton say that it depends on the new manager about back room staff - commenting that some manager like to travel with their own team and some manage rlike to asses what is already there

Remember as well, Fitton is suggesting this big name is vastly experienced and cannot be named due to his current position which suggests he's a manager at the moment.

Any 'big name' experienced managers managing in the SPL at the mo or abroad looking to get into english football ?

Fitton is looking for a track record also which may rule out some of these up and coming managers he's suggested, so a shortlist of 4 or 5:

Big name, Holloway, Dowie, ??

Isn't the "big name" the one that he said had applied and would be a dream but might not be right for the club? To me that smacks of someone like Allardyce - would be an amazing move in terms of making people sit up and take notice but possibly not right for the club in that not only does he demand sky-high wages but comes with a similarly expensive entourage the size of which would make an eastern potentate blush!

But if it was he would have to cut his cloth according to this level, would not be able to earn as much as he would in a higher level and wouldn't need so many back room staff at this level either.

But to get round the wages part insert clauses into the contract dependant on things like league place, cup wins, attendances - there are incentives to build up a contract and it makes the manager a little bit more focused on aiming for 10th for example instead being happy with 14th.

Just to add to the 'no to Sanchez' brigade.....I know a player who Sanchez signed.

His 'welcome' was to be blanked by Sanchez on day one.  Look how hard I am!

His coaching was stone age - player was genuinely bemused that he had moved from a smaller club, well-drilled and where everyone knew their jobs to one in Lawrie's la la land with better players where they didn't have a clue.

On second thoughts....

He'd be more of a Judas if he betrayed Shaun Taylor to some Roman Jews.

Or sold him to Bristol City...
