Title: Ben Joyce Post by: JPC82 on Friday, November 21, 2008, 21:38:53 heard a little whisper he could be starting 2moro, brave move by dave if he does decide to stick him in
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, November 21, 2008, 21:40:42 Still not risking Corr then. Sturrock will be lacking match fitness too I guess.
One absence and we've been caught short, which people have been warning for a while. Hope he does the business. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Nemo on Friday, November 21, 2008, 21:44:44 He hinted at this at the Trust Meeting I think. A good move in my opinion, Corr playing 90 against Rovers who are bound to put a few tackles in could be a risk.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Arch Stanton on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:02:30 Joyce is a great finisher, if he does start and an opportunity falls his way during the game he has a great natural instinct to stick in the net without even thinking.
But now I've said that he'll probably miss a hatful. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Tails on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:18:09 Agree, I've watched Joyce in Yoof and Reserve level and the boy can finish. Just hope he can do the business if he plays tomorrow, it's a hell of a game to throw him in.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DV on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:25:00 Starting him in place of whom exactly?
Instead of Cox so we have McNamee - Joyce - Paynter up top or in place of McNamee so we go Joyce - Corr - Paynter up top? Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: flammableBen on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:37:25 Agree, I've watched Joyce in Yoof and Reserve level and the boy can finish. Just hope he can do the business if he plays tomorrow, it's a hell of a game to throw him in. I'm no DV expert, but surely the finishing part of the game is the bit which is easiest to take up to the next level. It'll be the getting into position, doing the forwardy run around, fooling the defender business which will be the test. As well has holding his nerve when it does come to having a shot on goal. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: reeves4england on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:41:49 I'd imagine it'll be 4-4-2 with Paynter and Joyce...but I'm probably wrong as usual!
Fair play to Byrne for going with Joyce. From what brief glimpses I've seen of Joyce he's looked pretty handy so it'll be interesting to see how he handles it. Also, with Morrison, Pook and Joyce we could potentially have 3 ex-youth teamers in the starting line up! Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DV on Friday, November 21, 2008, 22:55:31 After playing a full 90 against Brighton and scoring against Leicester I'd be very shocked if Corr didnt start.
Unless his fitness is in question, seems an odd one to me dropping a guy who just come back from injury and scored for an untried 17 year old. Must be a fitness thing, in Byrne we trust... Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: pauld on Friday, November 21, 2008, 23:05:54 Wouldn't drop Corr, but mainly because I'd be scared of breaking him
My coat's round here somewhere ... Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: pauld on Friday, November 21, 2008, 23:14:39 But surely going with Paynter and Corr up front would be encouraging one-dimensional hoofball? Quite, two big lads up front - if you're looking to replace the system we play with Cox then you have Joyce as the little guy paired with one of Paynter or CorrTitle: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DV on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 00:08:40 The hoof it up to Corr worked well against Leicester.
Anyway if that was the case Corr and Paynter upfront its up to Byrne to drum it into the lads to not look for the long ball and to get it out to the wingers and get the crosses in. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 00:15:30 The hoof it up to Corr worked well against Leicester. Anyway if that was the case Corr and Paynter upfront its up to Byrne to drum it into the lads to not look for the long ball and to get it out to the wingers and get the crosses in. It's much easier to start with the getting it through to the strikers plan, before switching to hoof it up to super sub corr if things aren't working, than it is doing it the other way round. If that makes sense. It's a very much wait and see I suppose. We might start with Sturrock and Corr upfront. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: axs on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 01:04:31 Bryne was also hinting that Blair might be in the squad tomorrow.
actually, today. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DMR on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 03:20:05 I hope JPC is talking rubbish. Joyce would be a waste of time.... we've already got one youngster who's going to get ruined (Morrisson) after his gobshite comments in the press, I half-hope Lambert gets a hatful to teach the silly boy to keep schtum.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: LucienSanchez on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 08:50:00 I have no problem with Joyce starting. I wouldn't be surprised if it is him and Barry up top
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:46:52 I hope he starts. You hear people moaning (people like myself in fact) about the fact that the kids never seem to get a fair chance at Swindon so let's get him in there and see what he can do. These young lads have to start somewhere.
Those were pretty silly comments from Morrison though ::) Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:59:41 Joyce to replace Cox when he goes in January has to be the plan, so he needs some games to see if this is viable.
On the limited evidence I've seen Joyce does look a finisher. If we could make some money on Cox, then it would be handy if it went on a bit of strengthening elsewhere. PS by make some money, I mean not the whole pot going into debt reduction. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DMR on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 19:17:56 I hope JPC is talking rubbish. Hahaha this is the most correct I've ever been I think. Whoops. I hope your foot's alright Seano, must be stuck in your mouth! Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 19:32:27 Hahaha this is the most correct I've ever been I think. Sean played well today. Nice to see Town fans gloating at feeling they've "got one over" one of our most promising young prospects ::)Whoops. I hope your foot's alright Seano, must be stuck in your mouth! Cox is going nowhere in JanuaryTitle: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 19:35:32 I'm more than sure we'd bring someone in if that scenario occurred.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: DMR on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 19:37:15 Sean played well today. Nice to see Town fans gloating at feeling they've "got one over" one of our most promising young prospects ::) Not at all... one just hopes he's learnt a valuable lesson, I doubt Lambert and Rovers would've needed any motivation but that's what you call handing it to them on a plate. Not quite sure he's as good as people make out, he's playing (and thus part of) one of our worst defenses in memory. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 19:59:32 Not quite sure he's as good as people make out, he's playing (and thus part of) one of our worst defenses in memory. He is, but at 17 you can hardly blame him for that. Point the finger at the senior pros who aren't stepping up to the plate which means a 17 year old kid is able to keep them out of the team. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Arriba on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 20:04:16 he is as good as people make out.the club in a higher division that will eventually buy him will be all the proof we need of that fact
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 21:24:44 He's a big lad who can win the ball, comfortable with the ball at his feet, is no slow coach and has also got a decent throw on him. Still has loads to learn but he's only 17. That's extremely young for a first team player, especially for a defender.
Sure, he loses concentration now and again, but Ifil's been doing that for years. The fact he's kept Ifil out of the team is testament to his ability. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 21:55:36 By the way how did kanyuke do today
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: JPC82 on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 22:46:44 i said on the 1st post in this thread would be a brave move by dave to play Joycey, didnt work but fair play for changing it early realising the formation was shit and didnt work, hopefully wont it ruin joycey
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 22:55:22 I bet you've already ruined joycey.... in his arse.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: JPC82 on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 22:57:59 I bet you've already ruined joycey.... in his arse. dont think it warrented the 'in his arse' i think people would have got it :) Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 23:27:48 Cox is going nowhere in January Cox is turning on the Old Town lights next week...sure sign he's on his way. Sturrock was supposed to do it last year...he went the week before. Christian Roberts stepped in... now gone. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, November 23, 2008, 19:34:12 Cox is turning on the Old Town lights next week...sure sign he's on his way. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: JPC82 on Sunday, November 23, 2008, 19:35:43 shock i was right about Joycey starting
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, November 23, 2008, 19:37:51 shock i was right about Joycey starting  In fairness no one disputed it. Or did they? Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, November 23, 2008, 20:17:08 I'm disputing it. He didn't start.
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: axs on Sunday, November 23, 2008, 20:37:06 shock i was right about Joycey starting  not wholly surprising after Byrne said he would be involved on Monday at the Trust meeting. Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Power to people on Monday, November 24, 2008, 19:26:55 I predict that Cox will start again P'Boro :D
Title: Re: Ben Joyce Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, November 24, 2008, 19:31:50 I predict Casal will be on the bench tomorrow, OK he told me, but its close enough...but he did say as long as he doesnt break down in pre match training!
