I used to live in St Neots (20 miles west of Cambridge) and I regularly did St Neots to Lyneham (or Chippenham) using the A420/A34/M40/A45 (Northampton) then cross country through Rushden. Normally about 2 hours 15 minutes. Alternatively go up through Bicester/Buckingham/MK/Bedford but IMO the road isn't as good. I go the MK/Buckingham/Bicester route to every Swindon game and whilst the road isn't that good, i generally do it in 1 hour 40. Cambridge is about 30 minutes from here, and whilst i don't exactly know where Histon is, it's only a few miles from Cambridge. Don't do the motorways, cross country is quicker.
