Malpas didnt learn his lesson last season with regards to the goalkeepers, the 1st chance he got he dropped Brez for Smith, then he was shite, so brings Brez back after a few games, then u end up with 2 keepers low on confidence. He had half of last season and all pre season to pick his number 1 and again has royaly fucked it up

No. His foot was raised but it looked like a fair win of the ball. I was dubious about whether it was a booking, I was gobsmacked when it was red.

Other than that I thought we looked like a bunch of bottling cunts with no sense of urgency in the second half. Utter crap. I'm pretty pissed off.

 I was reasonably encouraged we matched them in the first half, until my mate reminded me they only had 10 men. I know that doesn't always tell straight away but it made no difference even as the game went on.

And individual mistakes continue to haunt us. I know you can't coach that out of people, but we are not talking about isolated incidents now, it's 5 or 6 in the last two home games.

Smith played at MK and was at fault for their goal, played at Hereford and for some fucking reason runs miles past the post after the ball hits the post and doesnt try to dive to save it when it was put in, and was at fault today, Brez made 1 mistake where he missed his kick against colchester

I don't disagree pal. Malpas has made a rod for his own back now. I don't think there's a huge amount of difference in quality between them, but I have Brez slightly ahead.

We got out played by a better team, a much better team.

They went down to 10 and worked harder, closed us down all the time and didnt let us have time on the ball. Then when the broke they moved the ball well and created space.

We did however, give them two gifts that are unexcusable. I can safely say I would have delt with both of those!! but mistakes happen. It suddenly doesnt make Smith a bad keeper or Ifil a bad defender, a guy sat a few rows behind me wanted Ifil to rot in the reserves and never ever play for us again  ::)

I thought Amankwaah and Smith as the full backs did alright. I think Aljofree did alright to. Without those mistakes it would have been a more even game.

I think the thing that highlights our weakness today was timlin near the end. we had a defensive throw in near the corner flag, think we may have been 3 down by that point. But instead of going forwards, timlin drops back in line with the defence. We have absolutly no urgency from midfield at all. These pretty triangles are all well and good, but i'd rather we win first. Make us hard to beat then make us play good stuff, not the other eay round.

And i think smith has done something similar before from a free kick, though that might be my memory decieving me.

  DV speaks good sense...unlike some on here.

Im no goal keeper or footballing expert.....but lets be honest. That free kick was straight at him and from angle in the DR and I can not understand how the fuck he managed to miss it. I just cant.

exactly my thoughts. ignoring the errors, it was an even game against a team that'll probably get promoted.

malpas' team selection and tactics were right - play two wingers at home in a four four two formation... you can't account for individual errors.

we just need to find out why these mistakes keep happening and put a stop to them. once we solve that, we'll be fine. not much that malpas can do when the mistakes are so elementary on the pitch.

Both teams didn't deserve their wages today end of, yes there was some good performances by individuals..yes our goal was good but at the end of the day if you give three goals away you deserve to lose. Leeds were not good at all, they probably felt relieved we gifted goals.
Smith's blunder was the turning point, why isn't brez playing (suspected shoulder injury, bullshit?).
Malpas couldn't even get changes right, Easton was doing good and so was McGovern..don't try and fix something which isn't broken. Marshall came on didn't do nothing..and Timlin didn't do much although he did play well for the limited time he was given.
The club has shot itself in the foot with this second instalment thing..how many fans are going to pay? I'm thinking i would rather put that money to a charity..at least you'll see results.

I didn't have a perfect view of the red card incident but it seemed harsh. Having said that the ref tried to make up for it by booking everybody who moved on either team from then on. Atleast eh was consistent I suppose.

My basic opinion is that Reg was right, we were ok but gave away stupid goals. We were playing against 10 men, we wasted 3 or 4 good chances, and we gave 3 Andrex soft goals away. Ifil was at fault for the first, Smith for the second, and was it Aljofree for the third? Whoever it was, we made it far too easy for Leeds today by beign complacent and not seeing any need to score goals. At 5.45 there were still 10 minutes to play and we'd given up. That pissed me off more than anything.

I had a Preston fan, a Leeds fan and a 'neutral' fan come along with me today, and they each thought we looked a good side and occassionally played some nice stuff. Cut out the stupid mistakes then we're mid table/play off bound.

Overall, mistakes cost us today...it happens...move on...

I think our big downfall was the communicattion between our two centre backs today....Niether of them knew who should be marking Beckford....So in the end Beckford either flicked the header on without being challenged, or had been given the space to run onto the ball....At least one of them man mark him, and the other be the spare man in situations such as this.

Poor performance, but lets not get carried away. Leeds are a very good side, 11 men or 10, with a very good manager. Success for them is winning the league, no less - for us it's top ten and flirting with the play-offs.

That aside, our lot still need a kick up the arse. Macca got no space and often had 3, rather than the usual 2 on him - but that left ony 7 men, 6 outfield, elsewhere for them. We couldn't exploit the space at all.

Smith was poor, Jerel was uncharacteristically poor....but would anybody have picked a different side going in at 3pm? Some may have picked Brez but he was poor a couple of weeks back.

Put today down to experience. Many more games like that and we worry about it, but not a one-off vs Leeds.

OK i'm going to post reasonably here. Or at least i'm going to try to. Part of me is really pissed off and wants to question Malpas. How many fucking times do we see these pathetic mistakes made? It really does cost us. And against 10 men we showed no fight and no passion. Really bugs the out shit of me. Why didn't we really go at them? Why did it look like no one gave a fuck except Cox?

On the other hand Leeds did really well with 10 men. They looked a class apart really. But Ifil was dreadful today. Our defence as a unit was really poor as well. Leeds are a good side and will do well this season. There is no shame in losing a game at home to them. They had luck as well. How Cox didn't score that header i will not know. World class save from their keeper. But after that we backed off. We need more passion, more urgency and to cut out these silly mistakes or it will be a long hard season. Plus points were Aljofree, Amankwaah, Cox and Macca. Rest were poor.

Overall no point in pushing the panic button yet. Malpas should get at least 4 more games. Something is wrong though and that needs to be rectified pretty quickly or a long season awaits us.

That was what got me - I don't mind losing against a better side, or even an average side that just got the rub of the green but I can't stand that sort of gutless display. We looked like rabbits in headlights for most of the game, whether against 11 or 10 men and we'd have looked no better against 8.

Aside from that, the lad who got sent off went in two-footed, both feet off the ground. That's a red.

And while I'd agree with the selection point about playing with two wingers it's not a lot of use if they don't actually get out on the wing. JPM in particular seemed to just drift around the centre. And no I'm not one of the regular JPM boo-boys, I think he takes a lot of the same undeserved flak we've seen far too many others take in recent years, which really pisses me off, but he just looked like he didn't know where or what he was supposed to be doing today.

i disagree with pauld i'm afraid.the fight was there,the quality,composure and confidence wasn't.
take easton for example.he always gives his all but today was one of the worst games i've seen him play.no lack of effort on his part, just a dire day for him.i think its the same for all of them.it was blatantly obvious that the front two worked their socks off today too.

It's made more annoying by the fact that we read articles and listen to interviews of our players saying that they are relishing coming up against Leeds United and this is the performance they create especially when it can be argued that the Hereford performance was effected by this fixture. The mind boggles.

Rignhr then its over 3 hours after the game and I've calmed down a bit to where my rage is just volcanic and my blood pressure off the Richter scale. We were fucking shit and gutless. Leeds won for 3 reasons. One - reputation. Two - they were physical. Three - they were organised. All in all I thuoght Leeds were pretty crap other than 15 but they were organised and they knew we'd bottle it if they flew into the tackles. I'd excuse the frontl ine as they ran their balls off. The midfield was a fucking disgrace - Easton and JPM you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves. JPM hiding in the centre as usual and Esaton was bollox. Nalis did more running than both of you. The defence is a fucking shambles and yet again where are our leaders. Aljofree you were useless but better than Jerel and its no good blaming everyone aruond you when you fucked up for the 3rd goal.

Our midfield is just not up to scratch,our front players played well today...Cox was superb,ok our defence was poor but that was down to individual errors...we need a midfield thats prepared to run at players not just sit and scrap,and keep giving the ball to Mcmanee who incidently put some great balls in..we played like the away team today,did our midfield have a shot on goal today,i cant remember one,whether its the pace or lack of fitness Nalis was poor today and i thaught the big match would suit him.....it could be a long season ime afraid.

We've not had a good centre midfielder since Stigger. Morrison may not be the answer but he's better than that cunt Aljofree whose got his last contract and can do what he fucking wants and pull in his wages. Vincent takes a lot of stick and I support those who say he say he's shit going forward. I love the guy. He's a defender who knows how to defend and organise and encourage those aruond him. We miss him so badly.

Nalis is a holding midfielder and he does pretty well at it.

I like Nalis,hes composed,disciplined and can pass well,but at home you need more than that if players like Easton dont even smell the eighteen yard box...ware nearly 10 games in yet i havnt seen him have a shot in anger let alone score,that said i wouldnt drop him....i just dont think he played that well today....if ime wrong i can live with that it wont be the first or last time.

I agreed about the front two .....Cox was superb,my gripe today was that our whole midfield including Nalis were too deep and too negative,you keep saying he is class but the stats are not saying that this season Arriba,hes not shooting,hes not scoring,in my opinion hes doing ok at best......i prefer a midfielder who does run all over the pitch.

I also thought the full backs were good.

Running all over the pitch is what Easton does Leefer, you can't have two central midfielders going box to box!

For me Nalis and Easton are the first choice midfield pairing, and then attack on the wings. And on that subject as good as his crossing is I'd like to see Macnamee hit the box more often and tempt the tackle. All over the park we need to be a lot smarter.

not good in my opinion but thought both looked steady, amankwaah seems to be getting more solid.

For what it is worth I'v read most of the comments on this thread and here's mine:
Phil Smith - no comment reallay needed, question why wasn't Brez on the bench today?
Jack Smith - thought he was one of the few who was not worried about the Leeds reputation, solid good game
Kevin Amankwaah - looked class going forward, couldn't defend for toffee
Jerel Ifil - lost interest, couldn't pass, was fucking awful, needs to be dropped and hung by the bollocks for a week
Hasney Aljofree - I thought he had a decent game, he needed to with Ifil next to him
Anthony McNamee - whenever he got the ball in the later stages of the first and most of the second he looked a great option and a continued threat, a few crosses went astray, but decent game
Lilian Nails - great vision when on the ball, but his legs wont carry him through a game to be competitive in the centre of mid, he needs a fighter to play along side him or this creative player will just be a passenger without assistance
Craig Easton - was he playing?
Jon-Paul McGovern - feel a bit sorry for him, never gets the service, asked to defend when he doesn't have a clue how too, comes inside looking for the ball and never receives even a crumb.
Simon Cox - great finish, worked his socks off
Billy Paynter - never been his biggest fan, thought he was superb today (again), brought players into the game, held the ball well - my man of the match
Timlin didnt have enough time to really influence the game
Marshall should have been sent off after only being on the pitch for minutes, not his best but the lad has talent.

Haven't really done this assessment thing before, I'm sure loads will disagree with my views, but well, there you go.

wasn't impressed with paynter last season after the first few games but he is playing very well and has a good partnership with cox...he'd be even better if defenders didn't constantly try and rip his shirt off, hold him back and pretty much try to slip their cock up his arse.

Agree even in pre season he did not impress me but i am big enough to admit i could of been a bit premature and not for the 1st time

I actually thought Paynter wasn't at his best yesterday. I have been a big fan of his since he joined us and i have always said he and Cox play well together. Always thought he was good last season even if i was the only one. Yesterday he worked hard (he always does) but just seemed a little of the ball.

We'll be going down if we're not too careful. I thought we were making inroads into playing better when we won at MK, but I fear that may have papered over the cracks.

Cox and Macca will be gone at the end of the season too. That's unless we start improving in the run up to Christmas. I've been supportive of Malpas because he deserved a chance. But now he has 4 games to win me over. My conclusion will be that he isn't good enough if we don't improve within that period.

I rate Paynter too, but there are a couple of things he should work on:

1. stop looking for free kicks by getting caught up in senseless tangles with defenders and going down a bit too easy.
2. When going on a run with the ball, looking up can be an advantage.

In fairness to him, yesterday he looked for the lay off to the right wing a few times only to see a huge gaping void where JP should have been.

I suppose. I get the impression paynters a little like a lower league heskey. If we played a more direct style with him as our focal point we may get more success i feel

his biggest problem isn't of his own making - defenders absolutely murder him and get away with it.

I think he must have a bit of a reputation with referees and as a result treat him badly.......don't know what he has done to get this reputation though. I think the best example of this was Crewe last season where he was sent off for a bit of a nothing challenge.

Hes a player suited to route one football which we dont play as a rule,i would have him as man up front on his own and have Cox and maybe young Joyce playing just behind...Cox was almost a midfielder for us yesterday anyway...he earns his money does Cox.

Colchester game he got absolute battered by the 2 centre backs and got nothing out of it. if we do play route one he nees to be a bit of a bully.

Hes at his best when running into channels and hurrying and harrasing the defenders. We did this for a ten minute spell in the first half yesterday and made their defence look abit nervy and shakey

him and Cox do that pretty well. when Paynter did that he made Rui Marques look very nervy.
