Post by: STFC4LIFE on Monday, September 1, 2008, 17:31:13
We've made a bid, and have spoken to him today.

I know nothing about the terms of the deal, other than a bid has been made and we have spoken to him.
Were aren't the only club speaking to him though.

I think this one goes hand in hand with Roberts retiring and getting out of his contract, thus freeing up what I guess would be a fairly decent chunk of wages.

I very much doubt this'll happen.

To be honest I don't really believe it. I've spent much time stating that we don't need him... However, he's scoring goals and keeping fit....

Whadda tease.

Erm. Why when..... we were told players have to go, we are not chasing anyone, we have gone over our budget already, would we be signing someone who would be on 5K a week? hmmm think about it? People give it up, Sam Parkin is not coming back, We don't need another striker.

u still basing this on Fitton saying ages ago Parkin wont be coming back?
the person i spoke to said we have put in a bid which someone one here said to me aswell they got told the same.
But the person who told me said he expects Parkin to join the other team in question, which would be Sams decision not to come home, im still hopeful though

To be fair, someone could snap up a bargain with the real Parkin tonight.

The bloke is class though and Im sure he would love to save Luton from relegation this season.

Come on Gaz, clue up

It was YOU who posted that Roberts may be released from his contract! That would free up wages no? Roberts must be one of the better earners, no?

To me it looks like if we get Roberts off the wage bill then we have room to bring in another player....

Yeah, Salami. We need more meat in midfield.

It's taken me two weeks to come up with that one.

We'd have to get rid of a striker. Maybe two.

In my opinion, to sign Parkin we would have to sell Billy Paynter. And that would be a bit of a risk, he looks the business this season. Otherwise the squad is starting to get out of control, very top heavy.

Im 99 per cent certain we arent signing anyone tonight, but if we do I hope its a defender.

We're still good for the loan market after this aren't we?

Or Corr or Cox!

Think we have a group of 3 reasonable strikers now if Corr stays fit.
I agree with you and can't see how Parkin would fit in either.

Absolutely. Parkin had a good time here, I wish people would accept HE IS NOT coming back.

Title: Re: Sam Parkin
Post by: JPC82 on Monday, September 1, 2008, 20:08:04
Parkin would be perfect, at the moment we only really have two 'proper' strikers in Cox & Paynter. Corr is always a worry due to the injuries, Peacock hasnt got what it takes to play up top anymore and has played in midfield this season. Sturrock isnt wanted, Joycey is still a baby and Jake Hyde isnt even considered for the 1st team

Title: Re: Sam Parkin
Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Monday, September 1, 2008, 20:19:05
yes good idea so lets buy Sam Parkin when we are already over budget and pay him 5k a week to warm the bench and play 10 mins at the end of games instead of strengthening areas that need it.

If Luton want any chance of staying up I very much doubt it. If they sell Parkin they are pretty much selling their league position.

Where has this magical 5k number come from?

Our strikers at the mo are Cox, Paynter, Corr, Peacock, Sturrock, Joyce. I'd hardly call that a top heavy squad.

When you consider Corr is always injured and Joyce is still very young that just leaves Cox, Paynter, Peacock & Sturrock. One or two of them get injured and then your short.

I'm sure if you look through the division there are plenty of teams with more strikers than we have. I think Southend have about 9 of them!

Anyway, Gaz no one is saying Parkin will come back BUT to dismiss even the possibility is wrong because this is football and if we really wanted Parkin would could get him back.

Dont care what Fitton said in an interview months ago, its Malpas' team.....

I doubt Luton will sell whoever wants him - not until January at least.

how is it not an option?

Parkin is a footballer, we are a football club.

No matter how unlikely its not impossible that a football club could sign a football player is it?

I think you've been interpreted like this: "WE MUST SIGN PARKIN" as opposed to what, I think, the point you're trying to make!

There is a large ultra absorbant Tena for men pad/man nappy open on the meeting table in our office - its been there for about a week now.
We had it delivered to my boss as a joke - he opened it then threw it around the room at everyone and thats where its been ever since

Im too scared to touch it too be honest.

If we did sign SSP I think I may have had to use it!
