Title: Brian Barwick Post by: Luci on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 19:58:36 Leaving his post as Chief Exec of the FA at the end of the year... :blowkiss:
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 19:59:39 I recognise the name, but I don't really know what he's done. Can someone give me a rundown of the decisions he's made and why they thing they've been good? Thankyou.
Was it his fault that we fucked about for so long post getting rid of sven? Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Batch on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 20:02:14 Appointed McLaren I believe.
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Flea on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 20:14:39 We should of kept sven :( In my opinion
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 20:17:21 And this is breaking news on Sky, some suit has agreed to leave and it gets coverage like that? No wonder the FA suits think so much of themselves. Who was the head of the FA that appointed Alf Ramsey or Bobby Robson? (without looking it up).
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Luci on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 20:19:45 Jan, don't forget the dodgy baldyman esq comb over
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: michael on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 21:51:46 Did he quit or is he being made redundant?
The credit crunch strikes again. Poor Brian :( Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: donkey on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 22:54:47 And this is breaking news on Sky, some suit has agreed to leave and it gets coverage like that? NMH Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Batch on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:06:09 And followed him with the current waste of space ! NMH Meh, fact is we don't have the players to do the job. But last night was back to the bad old days with no progress made - the scoreline glosses over the performance. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:15:29 Meh, fact is we don't have the players to do the job. But last night was back to the bad old days with no progress made - the scoreline glosses over the performance. Absolutely. England just are not producing decent players anymore. WE are putting faith into players who IMO just arent up to the task. Rooney is not a natural goal scorer so why is he playing up front? Lampard is shit, Beckham as much as I like him is probably past it. Personally I'd play the Under 21's in senior matches and look towards Euro 2012. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:15:57 Yep, have to accept at some point that it's not going to matter who's manager. You're going to have to be a pretty influential bloke to overcome the disinterest of a bunch of players who aren't as good or important as they're constantly being told they are by the majority of other sources.
Who's responsible for England underachieving? It's the fans and the tabloid coverage we buy into to. We've got the England team we deserve. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 09:03:41 i'm waiting to see how long before the media and fans turn on capello. i don't think it'll be much longer although because he's a "name" he'll get more time, regardless of results

A defeat and knives will be out. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: michael on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 09:29:02 He needs a result in Zagreb...0-0 would do very nicely. A defeat and knives will be out. It's a shame that you're probably right about your latter point. Czech Republic are better than us, as are Croatia. Anyone who seriously expects us to beat sides of this caliber needs a reality check. It will take more than a few meaningless friendlies for Fabio to make us into the kind of team that can compete at the highest level. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Power to people on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 13:01:36 I think that we do actually have some decent players though - Lampard, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Rooney, Terry, Beckham and we have some decent youngsters coming through as well - the problem I see coming up is actualyl being able to score goals, Rooney is not a natural striker, Owen seems to be increasingly injured, Defoe don't seem up to it and Crouch is no good for Rooney.
I think Capello needs to stick to 4-4-2 and actually play the players in their best position who can play with each other (i.e. not Lamps & Gerro together or either on the left) England I would say have the players to qualify if not to go far in the major tornaments but they need to play the right way.... As has been said we need a result in the next game or the sh!t will start hitting the fan..and that will be messy Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: donkey on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 13:23:50 I think that we do actually have some decent players though - Lampard, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Rooney, Terry, Beckham and we have some decent youngsters coming through as well - the problem I see coming up is actualyl being able to score goals, Rooney is not a natural striker, Owen seems to be increasingly injured, Defoe don't seem up to it and Crouch is no good for Rooney. As has been said we need a result in the next game or the sh!t will start hitting the fan..and that will be messy Given the next match is against Andorra...you're damn right. What i can't understand is why players play out of position so all the 'big' names can play. If England are going to play 442, then the coach should select the best players in each of those postions...if that means Lampard or Gerrard missing out, then tough. The player left out will have to try harder before the next England game to give the coach a reason to change his mind. I should also point out that this was not a good Czech side...worst for a number of years... Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: Nomoreheroes on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 17:19:13 Czech Republic are better than us, as are Croatia. Anyone who seriously expects us to beat sides of this caliber needs a reality check. With the football infrastructure that this country has I expect an England team to win at home against the 2nd tier of World football and below. I expect us to have close thrilling games at home against the top tier. Away from home. I expect us to lose (narrowly at most) or maybe scrape a draw or sometimes gain the odd win against top tier sides. Second tier side matches away from home should result in a narrow victory or draw with the odd 'unexpected' defeat. For 3rd tier and below I expect comfortable wins. We don't seem to be able to live up to these 'modest' expectations. NMH Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: RobertT on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 21:54:22 Get the Cyclists to play for us. Players are over hyped and under skilled and generally find playing for England a bit of a chore I'd say. I would, right now, sacrifice the next tournament and use 3-4 years to completely overhaul the team. Get in some youngsters yet to be fully tainted and build an England Club team around them - that's how all our other successes in sport recently seem to have been molded. The current Olympic squad should pay close attention to what happened to England in the rugby and cricket afterwards though, and the above idea would probably produce 1 maybe 2 good tournaments before we get back to the same problem.
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: michael on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 22:46:15 Best cyclist is a sweaty though isn't he. I hope to god he doesn't win the BBCSPOTY award.
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 22:47:29 I think Paula Radcliffe should win it.
Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: janaage on Friday, August 22, 2008, 09:14:51 Best cyclist is a one of God's own, from the glorious nation of Scotland, though isn't he. I hope to god he does win the BBCSPOTY award as he flippin deserves it. I assume your original post was a poor attempt at fishin'. I've made a couple of amends for you Mick. Title: Re: Brian Barwick Post by: JOHNNY REEVES on Friday, August 22, 2008, 22:00:24 untill we have a balanced team with the best player playing in his natural position we will have big problems ,it,s been a long time since that happened.

Beckham has his 100 caps so he can go and live his celeb lifestyle in America, Lampard needs to be dropped so Gerrard can play in the centre of Midfield and players like Agbonlahor and Ashley Young need to be given a chance. |
