Yep, like Arriba said, parity with Cox at max.

Not that we need him really, but it would be a nice morale boost.

And Parkin hasn't been the same player since he left us, you can't guarentee he'll come back circa 2004: If we could, I'd drive to Luton to get him, but the evidence suggests otherwise.

I love the Parkin cycle. No calls for him after Tranmere and QPR and then.....

Good pitch still.

A 6 month loan deal, with Blair going the other way, would be immense, if he stays fit and scores goals then make it permanent in January. Him and Cox would be good, and he seems to be in some form.

But he has already said he wouldnt come back as it could effect is hero status at the club.

Although that loan deal idea would be very interesting :)

But lets face it not going to happen.:(

Title: Re: sam parkin
Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, August 17, 2008, 22:04:47
Unfortunately DV i don't think Parkin can do that.

or it's at least not as guaranteed as people seem to think. It's a completely different side to the one he left, with a different set up all the way through the management of the club. There's no reason that he could come back and replicate his form more than a new player could, and with Super Sammy you'd be running the risk of ruining his Town time legacy.

Paynter and Cox look good, Corr (if he can get and stay fit) and Cox sounds exciting. And even if things aren't going well a couple of games down the road, I'd much prefer we risked a young hungry premier loanee/reject rather than an expensive injury prone former great who'd be coming here on the back of past glories. Even Blair could do a job somewhere, although however much I think people are harsh about him, I'm not quite sure where he'd fit at the moment.

Yeah, we might struggle if Cox does a vanishing act or gets injured, but Parkin isn't necessarily the answer to all our goal scoring needs, at best he's a very expensive risk, and that's just financially.

Let's kill this rumour...Sam Parkin has been injury prone over the last few years, it would be a huge risk bringing him back (as it was signing Corr)  - he would not get past the combination of Cox & Paynter at the moment and I'm not sure he could play the role needed to partner Cox either.

Would he really want to risk his hero status by coming back....I don't think he would

And I do not beleive TCP69 in that stfc enquired about Parkin either...I think he's trying to make himself look popular with his "I've got contacts" (in the youth team)

As far as I can remember he had at least two injury spells while with us with knee problems.
A broken ankle can happen I guess, but that was at Ipswich. He wouldn't have signed for Luton with that still bothering him, and on the basis of not playing very many games last season, that would indicate at least one other injury. That's at least 4 occasions then, ruling him out of a fair old percentage of games.

There must also be a valid argument that once you have a history of injuries you (note not 'u') become more susceptible to them in the future.

I'd say that makes it an unacceptable risk.
