I think Peacock washes and looks after his though.

I didn't know who it was for a while tbh, only when he turned around and I saw his squad number. I dunno, he's a nice guy but sometimes I think he's a bit mental.

I think it makes him an individual. Every club should have one. Spurs had a fat geordie bloke who liked to bleach his hair, get pissed and go wife beating. We have Peacs, who seems to like the odd tattoo or 9.

I very much doubt thats true.  Where Peacock might not have what it takes anymore, hes not stupid and I believe hes pretty diciplined from what ive heard about him.

More to the point, how was your mate sober enough at 3am to remember correctly?

I'm afraid I think Peacock's time is up here... He offered very little today.

Title: Re: Lee Peacock
Post by: DV on Sunday, August 17, 2008, 00:45:59
Malpas has in my opinion fucked up by moving him back in as a striker.

When Peacock plays upfront we just lump it to him all the time and him and Simon Cox dont play well with each other.

Peacock is a better midfield and think today we missed a battler in midfield. Last season was the opposite, we had two battlers in Easton and Peacock but no ball players (not that Easton and Peacock cant play the ball) where as today we has Nails and Timlin two ball players when we needed a battler.

Cheltenham won pretty much every ariel battle in midfield.

I think in Midfield you need a ball player and a battler....so it has to be one of Easton or Peacock along side one of Timlin or Nalis. Espically for games like today when you have to battle in order to earn the right to play football.

Tranmere didnt challenge us so it all went smoothly. I know it was the end of the season and alot of teams had nothing to play for but we looked our best with Timlin in along side one of Peacock and Easton.

Peacock doesn't offer enough up front imo. Though I thought we could have used someone like him in the middle yesterday.

As for seeing him out in town - I've seen him out loads but usually after a game and in fairness he's been pretty sober.

Funnily enough,Sturrock thought that he might one day end up at Centre Half.Andy Rowland
in the 80's made a similar transition.

Indeed he did, there's been a few who made that journey...I caught the legendary Maurice Owen right at the end of his career when he was playing full back, he'd gone from prolific centre forward to centre half, then to right back.

If you watch the 6 days to Saturday documentary...it's Maurice who was dishing out the wages which was the season after he finished.

Later he did a spot of coaching and was groundsman for a bit.

Great player was Owen...as for Peacock hasnt done the biz for us,to be fair to him hes had injuries but that seems to be the age old story....like Roberts they both look the part but thats about it most matches.I think both of these will be off at the seasons end.

Theres a bouncer at the Apartment who has black hair and the same tattoos as Lee P - I think he secrely wants to be him - either that or he has a bit of a man crush - I know Lee hasnt got black hair any more but maybe it was the bouncer he saw?

I think that's the problem here dave, Peacock has never been brilliant (no matter what position he played) and he's not completely crap either, he's a very mediocre player, a plodder.

Peacock is good in centre midfield, as he has a great workrate and can tackle, but imo opinion would still be behind Nalis Easton & Timlin

Like I say JPC he's okay, but I think we should be at a stage now where okay is not good enough, we need good, if not very good players now the club is on a firm financial footing.

Title: Re: Lee Peacock
Post by: DV on Monday, August 18, 2008, 12:36:21
Peacock did a good job in midfield last season and we missed when he wasnt there.

As for our four currently central midfielders Id split them in two and play one each.

So one of Peacock/Easton with one of Timlin/Nalis.

If you play Peacock and Easton together the midfield dont get forward enough as we found last season. So often it would go out wide and there would be no one running into the box. If you play both Timlin and Nalis they will get out battled by your Cheltenhams and what not.

The reason the club is now on a sound financial footing, is that the Board quite rightly in my opinion, have always stated they wont throw money at this project.

So, for example, the string of players that MM wanted but failed to get in the summmer, came about becasue we wouldn't meet players or agents demands...possible exception being Mulgrew.  We've therefore got players like Marshall and Casal...keen but raw....and Morrison a kid coming through.

Any extra finance will have to generated from within, that's why it was disappointing to exit the CC straight away again....

I daresay the Board were hopeful of generating some extra by the ST offer, although 5000 was OK.....the fact that PV got 7000 from their offer does point out the level at which we're currently at.  In other words we're OK and should expect mainly OK players.

i agree with you on this.he is an able deputy in midfield in particular, and will give his all up front.
but remember peacocks interviews regarding playing up front again.and the negative things he said about playing in midfield?
if he's a man of honour then he would have been telling the truth at the time.

Title: Re: Lee Peacock

Not really the point I was making Reg, I happen to be of the thinking that within our squad we have good players (Peacock is not one of these players - as he is just an okay player), I'm not saying the board should go out and sign very good players, as you say throwing money around, but I was picking up on the point made that some think Peacock is "brilliant" and others think he's "shiiiiite", he's neither he's just average.

I agree there, when Peac's was moved into the middle he was raving about it how it would be his new position and extend his career and now hei s back up front he raves about that.

But I suppose in a sense if he said he don't like it up front now then his stfc career would be as good as over as MM obviously don't want him playing in the middle.

Nevertheless, you state unequivocally that OK isn't good enough, how do you propose we get a squad full of very good players, if the Board wont pay for it.

I personally think the squad contains enough good/very good players at this time, with possibly the exception up front, corr (and paynter) may prove me wrong here.

Smith Brevo = good enough for this league
Ifil, Vincent, Smith, Casal, Kanyuka, Hasney, Morrison (given time) all good enough
Easton, McG, Timlin, Nalis, McNamee = good enough
Cox, maybe Corr, Paynter - good enough.

That's not a bad core for the squad.  The others probably need to improve to be reg first teamers.
