Title: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: LucienSanchez on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 13:28:21 Right...
I am off on a River Cruiser on the Thames for a few days and we've banked on there being loads of pubs along the river from Lechlade and heading into Oxfordshire. The problem is, my research seems to suggest there is pretty much fuck all to do on that entire route. It's a long shot, but does anyone have a clue where we could stop and do/drink/eat stuff? Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: michael on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 13:30:33 There are loads of pubs, pretty much one every hour or so.

Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: LucienSanchez on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 13:35:32 Oui... i'm assuming the folks renting it out will know also, but we need to work ou how many beers to take

Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: michael on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 13:38:23 Have you got a driver?
There's a very nasty blind bend under a bridge just before you get to the Swan pub... Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: LucienSanchez on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 13:40:51 Nope... we're all taking a bash at driving! How hard can it be...

I think I need to go home and rest today Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 16:13:52 The Thames used to be a major transport link....with lots a thirsty boatmen, hence the large numbers of pubs on it in seemingly quiet places. A classic used to be the Anchor at Eaton Hastings, but that burnt down....aside from Radcot, there's the Trout at Tadpole Broidge....must be SY's local and the Rose Revived at Newbridge. Further along I don't know much about as it gets close to O*frod, so don't go there.

Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: michael on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 17:20:08 Driving isn't hard, it's the stopping and manouvering (sp?) that sorts the men out from the boys.
Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: axs on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 17:27:44 it's pretty easy as long as it isn't windy. or you ground out.

Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 18:55:17 Ilike to walk the Thames path...and one day hope to do the whole route Gloucester to London, with a pub stop every evening! I've done a chunk from the start to near O*frod, then Wallingford to near Reading, then oddly some London stuff, which is fascinating. I don't much like the area between Reading and London...although I'm sure it would be an interesting walk. Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: leefer on Thursday, July 24, 2008, 19:18:56 Done chunks Reg....would love to do the run in to London....ouzes history.

Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Ralphy on Friday, July 25, 2008, 17:21:29 Was JFW serious when she said what river is Bradford On Avon on? ! !

Surely she was having a giggle? Her question was what river is Bradford on? An altogether trickier question, which I'll challenge you to get ungoogled. Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, July 25, 2008, 17:27:04 Was JFW serious when she said what river is Bradford On Avon on? ! ! Surely she was having a giggle? Why? It's a perfectly valid question! *Disclaimer* It really wasn't a perfectly valid question. Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, July 25, 2008, 17:34:48 Without google I don't know. If it's any consolation neither did I...I thought it was the River Aire but apparently not. It's the Bradford Beck....a stream now wholly underground. Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: Chubbs on Saturday, July 26, 2008, 12:38:35 jfw- will you marry me?
Title: Re: Pubs On the Riverside Post by: LucienSanchez on Monday, July 28, 2008, 10:01:21 We stopped at the Swan at Radcot, Rose Revived in Newbridge, Head of the River in Oxford, and the Ferryman at Bablock Hythe. I think that was all. We missed the Trout at Tadpole Bridge which was disappointing. Awesome weekend, the highlight of my boating career being to park the 35 foot, 9 tonne vessel with the boating equivalent of a handbrake turn in the middle of Oxford... boating holidays rule.
